Ah! A fellow grownup who has been around. Bless ya, Brenda Beyer, for understanding that people can, and do, often change radically from 6 mos to 6 mos, from teens to mid 20s. Wait til you guys get in your 40s, lol. I was a concert groupie, saw (still do, just did Bonnaroo), hundreds of shows, hung out with everyone from the guys and gals in REM, B52s, Travis Tritt, Alabama, Whitesnake, and gave Nancy Spungeon a cigarette, way back in the late 70s, when I was in my early teens. I've actually worked charity benefits with the whole Cyrus family. Kinda hippie, kinda dippy, but hands down some of the most down-to-Earth celebs I ever crossed paths with, and even though it's been a few yrs, I personally don't see that big of a change in Miley. She was very much as she is now, the last time I saw her in person, in 2009-10, and when I caught her show this past Spring. She's just more out front and blatant about it. She's interesting though, because she truly does march to her own beat, not the one made for her by execs at big tv and recording studios. Which is truly rare.

Miley still does covers like this and still always talks about country music. Why are people so adamant about labelling her, asking why she's not this or why she's that? Why can't you comprehend that she can be both soulful and crazy at the same time? Just because she smokes weed and dances around doesn't mean she's heartless "skank". This song was written in 1950 and recorded by numerous artists. I agree though, Buckley's version is fantastic. Miley has matured so much in the past few years, that I now seek out her later performances. I couldn't stand her prior to that.

Our generation has such ADD when it comes to music and what we think is cool. Unfortunately this Miley just wouldn't have gotten the same attention and album sales as the one we see now. Most of us didn't even know this video existed until new Miley popped up. It's sad too, her voice screams country, and I wish she could become more memorable for her actual talent and not for to rubbing one off on stage. The music industry is a sly devil.

Whilst I still think Elkie sang the definitive version and Jeff Buckley did a fantastic take on this as well, Miley’s version is also top class and endearingly quirky. Top stuff.

Aye, all these so-called great singers from the past are just frauds - you know, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby, Peggy Lee, a hell of a lot of C&W singers. Throughout the years, I've always come back to hear this. Beautiful voice.
Two comments. 1) Her voice is amazing. 2) Whoever mastered this session deserves a Grammy, possibly an Emmy, and throw in a nobel prize to boot. There is no way to tell this isn't mastered in a studio: not wind noise, no artificacts, just a band member saying "good one" at the end.
I honestly never comment about celebrities, since I don't try to judge anyone's life or lifestyle, much less someone that I don't know. But reading a bunch of recent comments about this girl, made me do this one. She has been working her ass of since she was a kid, literally, when most of the people, girls, guys, men and women bullying her, bashing her and calling her trash, slut, etc..haven't worked since that age, and as hard a day in their life. I don't drugs, I have never dressed in certain way, but hey, you have to respect how anyone deals with their issues, their way of growing up, no matter what.
I hate this American tendency to create an idol, in this case an idol that it was for everyone to their kids, (America's sweetheart, right), and then expect that person, who they don't know, never had a conversation with, to live up to their expectations, no matter what, to be "the perfect sweet girl", you know what?. Perfection doesn't exist, she has the right to say, "I'm old enough, I want to change my image, my music, I want to free myself," that's called being mature and growing up. She did drugs, she was to open talking about sex, showing her body, so what? who are any of you to judge her?? Are you in some higher position that gives you somehow the entitlement and the power to do it? I guess not. She was 21, for God shakes!!, and if even now, she is young, very young, and you hear her talking, even when she was 18, and it's as if you hear someone way much older, you know why?: because when you were playing with your friends, she was working, she has worked her ass of, as many of the talented people that are out today, the ones that are known and the ones that still aren't.
I honestly think she wanted to cut off all the ties to her version of her long tv show character, because, that's not HER!!, it's a fucking character, that is written on paper and does not exist, that, put together to a rebellion phase, and a hard break up, which, by the way anyone who has been deeply in love, and I have, can see themselves reflected in a lot of things that she did. I never did any of that, but I get it, completely, and if you add that to the thing that she has 50 paparazzi and fans following her 24/7, and the media, and ...well, here you have your answer. Still don't get why anyone thinks they can judge her for all of this, I hate this hypocritical way being in the US, so double standard, and this tendency to label everyone.
These are the facts: she's very smart, talented, successful young woman. She has gone back together with the love of her life, which, even without knowing her personally, for both of them, to get back with someone that has been that important, after long time being apart, it's something well thought, you must really love the person ( I'm talking about both), and it made both parts to realize how important or not the person was for you, if not, you don't get back, even if you are always gone love the person. You can love your first love forever, but that doesn't mean you are going to be together again. Everything happens for a reason, and they also did something very smart, being out of the public eye as much as the can, or low key, whatever you would like to call, which is basic to have a healthy relationship, having people on you and your partner 24/7 it's not good for any relationship.
So, for people that always wants to trash, bully, and insult people that they don't know, please, mind your own business, look at your life and worry about what is important, and let the rest live , breathe, dress and express the way they want to be.

During her tour, when she took some time to sit down with her guitarist and sing "Jolene," "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," and other songs of the like... that was my favorite part. So beautiful. I was heartbroken when she didn't sing this one because this is my favorite.
