Good analysis. Raisi's death reminded me of our own General Rawats' death. It was very painful and heart breaking that our top general a father figure was gone.
From a pilot (airplanes, not helicopters)..well done story.
That said, if it was an assassination, the reality of pilot error and mechanical failures in chopper flying
...make an "accident" at least plausible as a cause.
But, an accident is still improbable.
Why?
It's hard to imagine that a chopper assigned to any high level government VIP doesn't have excellent maintenance, and the best pilots.
But, horrible accidents in well looked after choppers do happen..
Examples -
We lost a deputy sheriff last year due to a mechanical failure causing a fire, and then burning off the tail rotor.
The late basketball player Kobe Bryant's pilot flew a perfectly good chopper into the side of a hill in fog
due to failing to follow basic flying rules
- he didn't file and fly an Instrument flight plan, although viz was under 3 miles.
Yea but Kobe Bryant didn’t have a convoy of 2 other helicopters! There’s no way under those circumstances this should have happened and I haven’t heard a PEEP out of Iran about war with Israel

Fog is super dangerous for choppers, 1 in 3 chance that a pilot becomes completely disorientated and crash on its side, i would avoid at all cost
