This is point less lol he just wants more money from the new chess fans. Levi is a 2000 player.
Hi Nicholas,
First of all, thanks for the feedback. I truly value the input of each and every one of my viewers, no matter how silly.
Second of all, my name is spelled Levy.
Third of all, multiple pieces of evidence point to the fact that--despite currently playing at a lower strength than my peak elo both online and offline--I am significantly stronger than a 2000 player.
Fourth of all, "point less" should just be 1 word - pointless.
Fifth of all, the assertion that I "want more money from the new chess fans" does not make much sense, considering the fact that (a) this series is beloved by older fans and (b) it is completely free to watch.
As always, do not hesitate to reach out with more feedback.
Sincerely,
Gotham
Wow, a second pin of shame, AND a response. This is the greatest response of all time. Levy, I believe in you. This is not for money, this is something you have been destined for.

I know most people troll in the comments, but honestly Gotham you’ve been a huge inspiration on my chess journey. I’m about to go play Community Chess at my local community center for the first time, and I would never have done that if your videos hadn’t been recommended to me
I hated chess for years. Then I saw Levy's videos in my recommended and they changed my impression of the game and it made me really love the game

I love that! I am doing the best I've ever done in a tournament recently, 5/8 against very high rated players
Thank you all for the very kind words - this means so much! Levy will get the GM title eventually but it will be a long journey. Keep faith!

So cool to see behind the scenes a GM coaching/teaching an IM.
To see the nuance and way you guys talk is very appealing to actually hear. And that it is you who we know so well and have been with you for many years.
Just pretty cool.
All jokes aside, I really want Levy to become a GM. he's an awesome teacher and is really good at chess. Rooting for you Levy ❤

YES WE WANT MORE OF THAT! its lovely to see the serious side if you like the grind you do and just all the funny business that's are funny too. thanks on the video and wait to see you get a your first NORM!
Three things I particularly like about this:
1) Mentality
2) Having a behind the scenes coaching POV
3) The way he rattles out sequences making me pause the video & work on my square recognition!
I think having the coach on the call is such a big asset, he's awesome :)
15:30 "you played two years ago, you should remember!" - meanwhile me who doesn't even remember his last move during a game 😳 😂😂😂
Lol, it's different when talking about games you play with your dad while digesting dinner and games where you for locked in for hours.

Yes, we want more of this! I certainly do, at least - I found myself super invested all the way through! GM Neiksans seems like a great coach, and it was really interesting hearing his thoughts on your games and especially your psychology.
It's also awesome and inspiring of you to share this journey with us - to show yourself taking the steps to learn and grow. ❤
Love the series! The coaching session was very insightful. Hope to see more in the future.
What a great coach. I think we're all gonna learn a lot from this guy.

Levy you have to do an episode with GM Ben Finegold. He has done coaching with Dena.
thats what everyone whos winning rn did 👍🏻
hahahahahahahahha
I enjoy getting to see behind-the-scenes looks at your training and watching you work through problems, so I'm personally voting for more uploads like this one. Good luck with your journey!
It's always interesting to me to see a master at anything teach. Especially when the student is also a master. It goes to show that you can always improve no matter how good you are. True excellence and greatness require this kind of humility.
I have never commented before on a TH-cam video.
I have been following your content for about 3-4 years now and would like to say, in my opinion, this is one of the best videos you have ever made. It is great to see your process and learn alongside you how to analyze and how to approach analyzing games and positions.
To be honest I am not a big fan of content like GTE and when that was popular I drifted away from your page. But now that there is more content like this and how to win I drifted back. I truly wish you luck on your journey to GM and absolutely believe that if you decide to properly go for it you will succeed.
Thanks for the content.
Josh
levy this video idea is absulotely brilliant. I LOVE it. As long it doesn't hurt you by revealing too much about your play, I absulotely would want to see more of these !!
I agree 100%!
I also agree, but I'm too lazy yo leave muy own comment.
It's really interesting that training at the IM/GM level is so different. They're not looking at tactics or preparation, they're looking at strategy above and beyond particular games. Profound tactics come like basic algebra to a college level math student. This is so cool.
And the way it shows on Levy's face at 20:30 his realization that it's as much emotional intelligence as it is intelectual intelligence or memory. I relate a lot, Levy. Keep it up, the video for the first GM norm will break youtube
I also really enjoyed watching this, it's very instructive and I can apply a lot of that stuff also to my games, even though I'm not as strong as you are. Keep it up and don't let haters bring you down.
I completely agree. This piece of content is pure gold ❤
One of the best Videos u ever made. So much inside in your strength and weaknesses. Seeing yourself being discouraged by being confronted with your mistakes and troubles. Your inner fight was so apparent…As well as your will to fight. Go on and show the world how weak you can be and you will come back as a stronger player…Congrats for this first step. U wont get outa here!!!!
Honestly love the series Levy I was a big fan of the content on your push to reaching GM when I first stumbled upon you a couple-ish years ago and am very excited to see you striving for it again my man keep it up brother!
GM Neiksans is an excellent coach!
He’s Great
yeah fucking legendary. Honest while being still considerate. Imagine big Hicky trying to be this mature lol
@@shevankaseneviratne1724 Hikaru is a player not a coach
@@falcon_224Yes, Hikaru doesn't have it in him to teach. He's just not a guy for that.
His advice is spot on and very tailored to Levy and the harsh criticism is very fair. Amazing coach indeed!
Adding the coach's comments is the best thing for this series I think. I never had professional help with chess but this video helped me realize another side of chess.
Love this content. Loved having the coach in on the call, loved the position analysis/ HW, loved all of it. More please!
Hi Gotham, I Enjoyed the video. It's interesting how a GM training still goes on the foundations like Checks, Captures, Attacks that you ALWAYS tell us, or that kind of thing. Looking forward to more content like this, Good Luck on your Journey to GM.
This is EXTREMELY helpful content. Not too many GMs are sharing their training regiment, or discussing GM-level advice in a way that's understandable to viewers. Your greatest strength as a content creator has always been your ability to break down high level chess into straightforward concepts - and this is EXACTLY that.
Thank you for inviting us into your training and prep, we're glad to be along for the ride.
Coach Arturs seems to be the perfect coach for Levy - empathetic, motivating and insightful. He also tells him what he doesn't want to hear (sacrifices). The number of nay sayers is probably a very small fraction of those rooting for him. The loudest of them all however is Levy's own inner voice. I hope his self talk improves significantly and he's able to overcome his biggest weakness to be able to achieve his goal of becoming a GM.
Also, he got IM at 18 and GM at 28, so he has already showed it can be done.
Yes. More of this, please. Love the insight and training tips. Also love going through the homework sections as well (I paused for both and will admit didn't make the winning move in either. :( )
Good luck on your journey LEVY. We're behind you 110%.
by far my favourite video in quite some time! really interesting to watch you and your coach talk about your games!
"Captures checks threats, this is what im chanting to my students" he was like damn im talking to my self haha
Actually, the one that he's been chanting is "checks captures attack" I wonder how much of a difference that makes
was he saying 'threats' or 'traps'? couldn't really tell
@@bgbd182 i think threats. thats what ive always heard everyone say as well
@@oznoone6892Probably checks first, since they are more forcing

Honestly, you deciding to come back to competetive chess has given me the motivation to pick it back up and start trying to up my elo again, i gave up a year or so ago due to feeling burnt out but seeing you get back in and makes me want to work hard again and try reach a high elo
What was your highest elo just wondering I’m only 1174 but I play just to have a competitive game not so much for elo I know defeating higher rated players raises the elo what rating will you feel ok with
This was amazing Levi, it gave me a rare look into how to practice and get better at a higher level, and also how a good chess lesson looks like. This is one of your more fascinating videos, I really think that. Thank you, very generous and brave of you.
I love seeing you work through this. You’re making yourself very vulnerable and that’s very brave in this day and age. Keep it up!
I like this content, Levy. I am a classical musician. Been a conductor for about ten years. I love this type of analysis not only of the games but of the mindset. It reminds me a lot of the grind it takes to be a competent musician. Thanks for putting yourself out there, and I’m rooting for you to get your title.
I bought your book. Thanks for the helpful content. Best of luck!
This video brought me back to my performance undergrad years lol
@@shiny460It really does feel a lot like a high level private music lesson. Brought back a flood of memories.
Thanks you magnus for letting gotham post a solo video about his journey on your channel
Magnus never fails to have levy in his video
Very proud of you Levi
The fact that, being you a teacher, you have decided to get really serious in taking a step back and assessing I have still something to learn and I want to learn it well (Let’s start again) is very deep. Not everybody having reached your goals and results would have been willing to “go back to school”, which is something I think all of us should understand in order to get the journey of real improvement going on. Hope the best for you. Keep up the great work.
Levy, the road to greatness in any walk of life requires humility, allowing yourself the benefit of vulnerability. And this journey, this series, especially this episode, where you start letting someone else lead and show you the way, is evidence you're definitely on the right path. Good luck. Sincerely.
P.S. as a math teacher myself, you wouldn't imagine how helpful it is, from time to time, when in self-doubt, to let my very students (who btw think i am a genius) assess my proceedings, even if inadvertently on their part, and this always, always reminds me that my shortcomings are just human fuel for any outstanding performance (aka new heights) i wish to reach. Hope this is relatable, from someone who only took up chess in their thirties.
YES! More of this exact content please, I'll binge a thousand of these with no complaints. Love the partnership with GM Arturs, seems like a great fit for you (from the little behind the scenes we get to see here). Waiting for episode 4 now 💗
IMHO this type of content is significantly more interesting than the normal beginner-level chess reviews and whatnot that you make. I know that stuff might get you more views, but I would really appreciate if you posted more of these GM lessons so we can see how to analyze our own strengths and weaknesses
Thanks! Appreciate seeing the steps you are taking to grow. Best of luck and I look forward to the next one.
What an inspiring chat with the coach. Thank u Levi
As I'm watching this video, I have to say that I find this coaching sessions very interesting and you probably should keep doing them in the future. Great content Levy :)!
This type of content is my favorite kind. Watching you do well and/or get better is always most interesting.
You talked with Arturs about something I have always wondered when he mentioned not seeing repeated positions. I’ve always wondered if the approach of identifying your opponent’s strengths and then trying to pick a line to surprise them so no one knows what is happening is the best option. I’m not qualified to have an opinion, but in the video it sounded like you both came to the same conclusion that trusting your opening knowledge and believing you are equal or superior from an opening perspective is something you can implement.
Keep up the good work!!
Great vid Levy. Really cool to see these coaching sessions. Best of luck to you making GM!
I read this book called Psycho-cybernetics. Part of the book refers to the mental block people have when chasing goals. Many pitchers couldn't cross 90 mph or something. They changed the framing of their thinking, and suddenly a ton of pitchers in that group started crossing that mark. I think Levy could benefit from that mental work.
More work on actually playing more chess even coach says so
I don't see how changing mental thinking about crossing 90mph would change anything. I dont believe a single pitcher thinks about it, when there's so many other more important things going on during the match and the throw.
In practice, sure, you can isolate for one thing and try going for record speeds, and if you overthink it, then sure, it can become a hindrance. But over all, i think that BS.
I looked up the book, and yeah, it's one of those wrong self help books from the 60's...
@@fobusasI’m not sure how young you are, but the mindset can be a huge factor in athletic performance - and even more so for mental tasks and sports like chess. There’s a lot of BS self help stuff out there, but having the growth mindset and reframing can be literally life changing. Also, the task was throwing over 90 mph - at least according to the comment. It’s helpful to focus on one specific thing at a time.
@@fobusasthat stupid book was written by the founder of Scientology.
@@michaelmassaro4375 And many GMs also said Levy's mentality is likely the issue Hikaru and Hans both said so
Ayyyyy more road to GM! We love watching your journey, we want to see everything that contributes to your success! Good luck on your adventure!
I think getting a variety of chess coaches to analyse your games like Neiksans would be awesome to watch as well!
Thanks Levy for keeping up this series. I look forward to watching you on your journey! Very informative!
Just such a wholesome coaching lesson. Love the new content!
This is so good Levy. It's great to see you model how to be a good student. So many people struggle to learn because they don't know how to listen to someone talk about their weaknesses and areas for growth. Seeing you bite your tongue and thoughtfully consider what was being said at the start is such a powerful thing to model and something we can all learn from - not just in chess but in life in general.
GM Neiksans seems like such a great teacher. Super invested and able to give honest feedback without it seeming heavy-handed or critical
Love this content. Please upload more of these lessons!
I don't think I've ever commented on a youtube video before let alone one of yours (which i have watched many of!) - but thought I should say that the format of this video was great. Really interested in seeing the steps you take to obtain the objective of GM and behind the scenes how you go about that is really eye opening. Looking forward to future episodes
this is my favorite video you've released in years. it's fun to both see your progression towards becoming a GM and to see the sorts of things a GM coaching session contains. I learned a lot about how to both analyze positions, and think about how I play chess overall. Would love to see more of this content
Absolutely loved this content. Always love to see what it takes to jump from "great" to "elite", and breaking down the specific steps that can help get there.
Excellent episode. All very instructive. Thank you Levi. Please keep posting these recap videos.
Levy, Thank you SO much for sharing this with us. It must be painful emotionally to go thru this process and to lay bare to millions is staggeringly giving. Thank you!
This is great content. Loved the original road to GM, and loving this one even more thus far. It takes a lot of humility to publish someone else talking about your weaknesses, so thank you for that. Hope this continues to be well received and that you find it worth your time, both professionally and personally, so that it'll be a series that lasts until you reach the goal.

This is true grinding. Not many people would have the guts to try something like this, let alone record the process, and showing us the way on TH-cam, for everyone to see. This are true balls of steel at display here. Rooting for you Levy, I hope that someday I can have the same level of self respect and self-criticism that you have for yourself. Great series, and a great video.
Tbh, he doesn’t look that engaged. It’s a big commitment. And it this point in his life, he actually may not have the time to commit. And honestly, does he really want the stress? He’s already a made man and pretty wealthy. I hope he goes for it. But I’m not sure his heart is in it. It causes him insane anxiety. His body chemistry may not be up to the task.
Absolutely love this content. Thanks for sharing the journey and being vulnerable. It resonates with real life too not just chess. Keep it up! Hope you make it to GM! Either way, you are tremendously successful and should be proud of yourself. GM is the cherry on top but you got the cake already!
