Thanks Derek for showing us the real nature and the true joy of sailing.Watching this, I feel as if I were out in my own leisure 17 in the Bothnia, which unfortunately is no more.
Hi, Derek! Thank you fo sharing your videos, it's really a joy, watching them. Just got a L17 myself, complete rookie, gonna restore it with help from friends. And guess what? I'm from Cork! Hope one day we can meet! Take care ;)
Out in a F5 often enough but well reefed. F6 is another matter and was running downwind to get out of the weather but would not try to windward unless I was really stuck. Depends upon seastate too.
I have had a season of sailing with gusty unpredictable winds all season, I kind'a got the impression that you have experienced some of the same. Best regards from Jarle
@@derekclarke8097 yes ofcourse I watch Erik. He is based in Haugesund. I live not to far away from Bergen. My sailing videos is rather gentle compared to Erik's amazing woork. I do coastal sailing and try to show of our beautiful coastline and all of the wonderful small anchorages that people tend to miss. Marinas is not my thing. But i need to hook up to shore power from time to time, so i get to visit a few of those aslo. When I've (if i ever) manages to finish the Norwegian coast I'd love to do som sailing around the atlantic side of the British coastline. But that is too far into the future. I the meantime I I'll watch your videos and also "sailing cos I love it" i can learn alot from the both of you. Thanks. Best regards from Jarle
@@StemtoSternSailing That’s funny as I have sailed all the west coast of Ireland and across to the UK & France (not in my L17). What I would like to do is sail the Norwegian coast. I enjoy Erik plus Uma & Alluring Artic in their recent trips there. I think it’s the Viking in me that is so impressed by it all. I also visited the Western Isles / Hebridies and a similar dramatic coastline as you have. Well if you’re thinking of coming this way, give me a shout etc. Regards, Derek
Hi derek I’m Conor I’m from cork was wondering if u had any spare sails for a Leisure 17 I recently restored one myself but I don’t have any sails thanks and thanks for the videos
Hi Conor, I had one Hank on headsail that is out on loan to another L17 sailor. My old mainsail is really poor as I has to replace it a few years back so I wouldn’t suggest that. There is a guy in Sweden that messaged me offering me his old sails for his old L17 that he no longer has. I’ll send him a reminder & see if you can have them. Send me an email address for yourself. Mine is dfmclarke@gmail.com
Good stuff, another L17 owner in Cork! I jujst got one and gonna restore it so that next spring I'm in the water! How cool would it be for us 3 to get together? :)

Hi Jarle, yes the prevailing SW winds can be gusty a lot. Makes for good sailing. I’d like to sail in Norway, where are you based? Do you watch Eric?

Have you ever been out in f5-6 + winds in the L17? I'm wondering how it handles such weather, particularly going upwind?
I have just got one and Inam restoring it. Any help with how to rig it better?
