I hear this already in Josephus: that God didn't appreciate Cain, since he was a covetous man... And that he was a covetous man, showed itself in the borders he set. I don't think borders are against God, or what He despises, Josephus... Is my body not a border in itself? Josephus seems to me to condemn the borders and ownership. But wasn't it Abel's body, that Cain wasn't allowed to destroy? So too with anything else that belongs to someone else. Whoever wants to destroy borders, he himself is rather a covetous person. Or perhaps ignorant of his brothers suffering for destroying his brothers borders. I probably haven't understood Josephus correctly, this is probably not even what he meant. If I was to take this story literally, I would like to thank Eve for saving my life. I’m sure that when the god of this bible created the Earth, he created the seasons. I’m sure there were mosquitos, flys and other parasites on the planet then as there are now. I’m also sure there were thorns, thistles and other sorts of nasty plants such as poison ivy created as well. The god of this bible intended for man to be naked among all this?! Eve got smart and created the first barrier against all the calamity that nakedness would have evolved without protection from the elements within the garden. Today we call them clothing. What is so evil about this? Today I can put on a coat so I won’t freeze to death in the winter and I can put on shorts in the summer so I won’t die of heat exhaustion.
