Yes, Attention is great. Much of VPs back catalog is stellar, you are right that their arrangement and production skills have grown over the years. They have always had the talent.
The arrangements have gotten so much more complex, but that talent was always there. Layne ! Holy cow! How the heck can he say all those words so fast and still make them understandable? I’ve heard Geoff is an alien, I heard Earl was an alien, but I guess Layne is from the same mother ship because that is not normal!
Layne is the one who always sneaks up on people- and then one day, you realize the guy is a monster in disguise. His talent levels are almost frightening.
Okay, Dave, I'm gonna recommend you to check out VoicePlay's live performance of Road Trip (it's in their archive). It's something completely different from what you're familiar with, but it is also 100% VoicePlay amazing. They performed this on the Sing Off Tour and it not only shows off their vocal dexterity and precision, but also their cleverness, signature humor and stagecraft. You'll end up with the biggest smile on your face, guaranteed.
@@whatitdodave Awesome! Can't wait. I always enjoy your reactions (and your attempts to go into dragon breath mode-which are getting better!) So I'll definitely check that and all your dives into the VoicePlay archives! You may find some of their old live videos amusing as well, from touring. Look up the Chicken Song for a laugh even if you don't put up a reaction to it, it will give you an idea about their live vs. studio performances.
Oh, a daily dose of What It Do Dave reacting to VoicePlay would be so great!! I’m very glad you did this! I think the complexity of their older arrangements vary more than they’ve done the last three or so years, but I always love their voices and their talent, so I think as good as all their songs are treats anyway. I’m always looking forward to your VoicePlay reactions!
Yes, please do a deep dive of older VoicePlay! I can tell you we all want that because most reactors only do videos of recent releases from the time they start reactions and they end up missing out on so much good content. I agree with others recommendations for Attention and My Shot.
I can understand what you're saying about this particular arrangement, but I also wonder how much is also due to the fact I do not see Ed Boyer credited for the mixing. I have heard Geoff say that Ed is phenomenal mix engineer and he works on both Voiceplay's and Geoff's tracks for the final mix.
I think one of the differences may be that this seems live recorded so there's only one track of each person while more recent ones are prerecorded musically so they can add some more tracks of everyone if needed to fill something
So glad to see you digging into the archives. There's so many great videos and I love watching your reactions because it's the same joy as when I'm playing VoicePlay songs for friends for the first time.
I agree Dave, sometimesi jump headfirst into their archives...they myst have over 150 music videos to their combined credits.......they mentioned their original group name 4:2:five, there are videos of them as well, early in their career choice they visited radio stations, there are videos of their various stage shows, look into some of their 'promotion' videos.......library is OPEN, my friend.....>^^
Yes! And I really don't like the arrangements where 5 (or 4) people are just background singers for the lead. I like their current arrangements so much more, where everyone gets their chance to really shine
I'd be THRILLED if you went daily. You can count on my "like' - but I subscribed a long time ago, so that won't change. I was going to suggest Attention too, but I see Susan Bradley beat me to it (2017). It's wonderful and very similar to their newer stuff. Chandelier is great and that is 2014. But why haven't you done Once Upon a Dream? I promise that it will stun you. 2014.
Fantastic reaction. Can you react to VoicePlays song. Warrior (imagine Dragons) please its amazing. Layne beatboxes while playing a violin at the same time xx
In the beginning of the group Layne was a baritone. After Scott Porter left for acting he took over the beatboxing.
Their version of Attention is worth a listen.

Layne was excellent on this!
Wow, I had not seen this one, didn’t even know it existed…damn Layne’s rapping holy cow 😮
Can’t really go wrong with their old stuff, well you can’t really go wrong with voiceplay.
Another great archive song..”My Shot”..from Hamilton…
it’s great to look at their old stuff please do go back you won’t be disappointed ❤️🏴
I second this!

Hahaha. Well those three were singing together since middle school so that must be when they arrived. :)
Layne is the one who always sneaks up on people- and then one day, you realize the guy is a monster in disguise. His talent levels are almost frightening.
Expect the unexpected from Voiceplay.
Definitely do more of their old stuff. Highly recommend “Love Yourself” it’s just Eli and Geoff doing all 5 parts
Also Death of a Bachelor with just Earl and Geoff. Lovely to hear more of Earl's natural range.
You should also check out Geoff and Earls version of "Death of a Batchelor" by Panic! At the Disco.
I love their Partwork of DoaB as much as the original, just for different reasons!
you really should do a deep dive into their past songs

The fact that they did this nine years ago, NINE YEARS AGO in just mind blowing
I think they were still finding their level. They were always supremely talented but now they are monsters, they just so amazing.
Wow ... thanks so much for doing this reaction. I've never heard this, and I'm blown away ... Layne and Rachel stole the fricking show!!
You have actually heard VoicePlay do bars in their version of "Superstition!"
Oooohhhhh!
And Moana Medley!
@@randiskye4444 I actually have not done that one yet, so it’s dropping tomorrow. I can’t believe I haven’t reacted to it yet!

You should check out a song Eli and Geoff did to gather were Geoff beatboxes

Rachel is one of the most beautiful women on the planet, and when you add her voice in? Just. Stunning. So talented.
yes! finally someone is reacting to this
I love this one, and i also love their Artpop with Honney La Rochelle. It’s an old one too

Love to see you go daily with VoicePlay - there's so many songs to check out! Start out with True Colors and check out Zombies vs Hillbilies-Survivor
OMG LAYNE!🎙Hadn’t sen that one before.

Daily reactions to voiceplay? Yes please lol. _so_ many you haven’t seen yet. 😆
This I hadn’t heard. Very fun. Thanks for your reaction
You’re right...geoff was probably born with the bass
She’s Always In Love My Man

You should really check out their Attention with Rachel, and also just some of their older stuff. She did Phantom of the Opera with them too!
Can't wait your VP daily 😍😍😍😍
Lane rocked this one!!!
The back row there were really just backing singers on this one. We don't see that now in their arrangements.

Go Lane, go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do the one "Zombies vs Hillbillies". Two really good acapella groups signing "I'm a Surviver".
Checkout Voiceplay's cover of Nothing else Matters
Have you done Warriors to find another of Layne's skills? Another possibility would be Road Trip from VP's time on Sing-Off?
I mean, it's a decade ago, so yeah, they def look younger.
Hello Layne!
Have you watched Warrior and seen Layne bust out his violin and make it sing?!!
th-cam.com/video/iV3Hr9fTieI/w-d-xo.html
I think beatboxing makes good training for speed-rapping. You may not use words, but getting tongue-tied is a similar problem in both
young layne needed to sleep more lmao

Already done.

Do the voice play home free and PTX old school you will like them
