    Okay, a new additional bucket list item! Salmon fishing in Iceland! Yes!
    Just a thought, maybe weigh down the fly more. Here in the U.S., we wrap the shank of the hook with lead to weigh it down to get deeper into the zone. BTW, dragging it onto shore is perfectly fine. 😊😊😊😊

    Great fishing clip! To all the people who complained about the salmon being beached, get over it! The salmon will be fine. They bang and crash against stones and rocks as they swim up the river. The most important thing is to get the hook out and get them back in the water quickly... which he did. Nice underwater shots. Good on you!

    This is the Atlantic salmon or Salmo Salar in Latin. This is the only salmon species we have here in Iceland. Only one river in Iceland stocks steelhead and this is not the one. The Atlantic salmon always puts up a great fight no matter how small it is. This summer I hooked a fish well over 10 kilos but after five minutes he sent the fly back to me with the hooks all bent up.

    What beautiful underwater filming, I could watch this all day! Most educational too learning how and where they hold and how they react to our flies. Such clear water too. How spectacular that you get to enjoy that!! and we do too vicariously. Do you have more videos?

    Great video. Where is it from? Is it part of a nature documentary? I had luck with one of the sisters in Scotland - unfortunately the artificial kind (i don't mean a blow up doll :)) - interested to see that if you get a 'nibble' but not a strong take to go for something a different colour. Anyway, they are wonderful creatures. Tight lines.

    I'd love it at the end of each season if you were sent a report by 'the all seeing eye'! In that report it told you how many pools you fished that actually did or did not have fish in at the time. What casts you made which had fish interested etc. It's a complete fantasy but it would be great just to know. It's a really interesting video just to see how the salmon react. Amazing shots.

    Question though how did you guys know the fish were there ,did you search the water first with the camera??
    thank you for a brilliant peace of work

    we get this close with a 12 feet pole and a small lense on the end but the camera recorder on the other end. everything is on a tripod where the screen and the controls for everything are. you can buy one for 20.000 pounds! The water has to be relatively clear though.

    HI . No we didn´t search with the camera. we just went up and down the river - very carefully - and used our eyes...and polaroid glasses. we thought there might be a couple of fish in the pool! we didn´t see all of them until the camera was in the water.

    Some interesting notes 1) many takes could be unnoticeable for the angler 2) salmon rarely chase the fly too long, most takes happened when fly was very close to the fish 3) fighting of one hooked fish doesnt spook the rest of the crowd

    • @drrandom429
      @drrandom429 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they are nasty parasites but they don't live long at all in freshwater. The salmon has just come from the sea a few hours ago if sea lice are still attached to the fish.

    • @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj
      @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll explain you "normies!" ( joking).....in pacific , Atlantic salmon, arctic char,(+ sea brook,bull and varden) sea trout, and steelhead (cutthroat too) cultures we Love sea lice ! There associated with the most powerful fish.They have just arrived in fresh water and haven't spent the insane energy it takes to get up river.. thus are carrying nasty lice from the sea. They die in the fresh water and have there place in the ecosystem,

    Don't get it! Right handed angler uses weaker left arm to play fish so that the simple process of winding can be done with the right. Too much unnecessary arm swapping for me! Never understood why any right handed angler needs to do this.

    The commentator knows nothing about fly fishing for salmon...... His idea is to change the fly when the salmon took the fly already on the line........ Ridiculous.
    A lot of mumbo jumbo is bandied about re the correct fly. Two flies are needed to catch salmon a light colour and a dark colour but in different weights. The weight is of paramount important because the depth at which it fishes is crucial........
    The salmon pictured are ready to take in any case and are seen to rise quite a lot through the depth of water but the angler is not in touch with his fly. Fishing as such he will miss takes on a regular basis. Obviously he has not caught many salmon on the so called Fly.

    • @michaelhall7921
      @michaelhall7921 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've just read your post. WEll with rrepect you don't know a thing about my experience. I've caught fish in Scotland when my expert Welsh pals caught nowt as well as 30 others caught nowt staying and fishing at the same hotel. One another occasion I caught two salmon when a scot born in the house just up the bank again caught nowt....... and I've caught fish on days others failed so how would you compare my inexperience to theirs?
      Always keep an open mind. Another tactic that is likely to be more productive is never fish with a slack line because it's a bad habit! More fish would have been caught if the fisher was more in tight contact with the lure.
