Up in the Northeast ( NY) - close relative summer flounder rarely come up more than 1 foot to strike, we need to literally bounce bucktails and soft plastics on bottom to illicit a strike. Amazing how far up halibut will rise off bottom to attack
I live in New York and fish the South Shore of Long Island. Everytime I see a halibut fishing video it reminds me of a monster fluke. My personal best is only 10 pounds so I can only imagine what reeling in one of these is like
@@bobthompson9890 Same here Bob! LI South Shore fisherman stalking Jones and Moses regularly. 10lb fluke is a slob..I presume from a boat or that would be a world record from shore.
Thank you, thanks to these shots you can see how effective the two purpose-defying jigg hooks at the head of the softbait are. Because practically all fish hang securely and firmly on them. Will also use it on my softbaits, learned something again.👍👍👍
Thanks for commenting, our bite to hookup ratio improved massively after attaching the flying twin rigs. Something we learned after viewing waterwolf footage
Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.
Unless you're Commercial halibut fishing you do 😁, subsistence fishing you do only 2 halibut per person 😉. For Commercial halibut fishing you gut'em split the V section, cut the connective tissue that supports their gills, next you cut the sweet meat, and pull it all in one mass, and finally rip out their nuts.
I was surprised the halibut came up that far to get the bait. After getting the bait he probably thought 'WTF'! When you released him he thought 'that was a close one'.
I've seen halibut chasing salmon on the surface in Alaska, jumping right out of the water in following the jumping salmon. I've seen a lot of things in over 60 years on the North Pacific, Bering Sea, and Arctic Ocean.
Great footage thankyou. In New Zealand we use lures like that but we have the tail sticking up, so it's kevel with the jighead hook. We don't usually bother with stinger hooks, just the jighead hook
Hi, what's your technique to fish with this lure? Do you just let it to the bottom and then slowly reel it up to the surface ? I've just been to Senja, but we had no luck with halibut :(
Great video! Do you have a link to purchase that exact lure? With the 3 hooks and everything? I tried going to the website and the Facebook but I can’t buy them. Anywhere else sell them?

Thanks for releasing halibut. We don't need to kill everything we catch.
Thanks for commenting, we do keep a few for the table, but most are catch and release

Thanks for commenting, many of the halibut we caught were taken very high up , some quite close to the surface
Lol no release

who ever made this lure was like, lets add a treble hook but we use 3 single hooks instead
No treble hook, three singles. One fixed, two flying
Anybody know what song was playing when the fish was getting reeled in?
I just really liked it and couldn't find it myself
Hell yea. Great video. Love the fact that you released it 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
awesome bit of kit, how much is this outfit to buy ?
Seriously cool footage!
Thanks for sharing it with us!
Thankyou

The music makes the video more exciting, I love it
Really great footage! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congratulations for the effort. Congratulations for the release!
Many thanks!
release? you are my heroe!
Hey Paul cool you C&R mate but was this not a C&E fish?
Thanks. We had already caught and fileted a similar fish the day before

Great vid respect from Ireland 🇮🇪 👏
thank you

At 1:35 is the fish dying or farting?
Lol. Definitely releasing pressure from somewhere
Paul, how deep were you fishing on this set? Are you drifting or at anchor?
Yes we were drifting the clean ground in between patches of rough ground. It was about 60 mtrs

What am I missing? Why would you release that halibut? My favorite fish to eat.
Thanks for the comment. We had caught and filleted a similar sized halibut the day before, and yes very tasty
How deep is that...,, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea..,, that's One of those NEW Jules Verne Lures evidently...
Small hallie but it had some nice runs so good fun, nice little vid:)
Glad you enjoyed it
Where can I buy a water wolf camera? I have checked everywhere but all I can find is a go fish cam which is very expensive

Damn…… that’s one pissed off halibut 😶
halibut be swimming in the middle of the water column??
Most of our takes were in top third of water table, a few very close to surface
@@pauloconnor916 that’s super interesting thanks for sharing!
I have seen halibut hitting anchovies on the surface blowing 4 feet out of the water.
I would rather just hear the aquatic sounds on the GoPro than the dramatic music. Thumbs-up, for the video anyway.
Thanks for the comment
Cool video!
GREAT
I wonder what it's like to live your whole life lop sided
No C&R after this kind of elevation from depths. Fish was dead before lifted out of the water.
Thanks for commenting.
I assure you the fish swam away as shown at end of video. How long it survived, I don't know. Hopefully it survived

Thanks for the comment, we sure did 7 of the 11 halibut we caught we're on this very lure
Nice release too.
Nice catches!

Thanks for the comment. Although we fo keep a few to eat , most fish are released
Use live bait.
Thanks for the comment, on this trip we were trialling this new lure, it actually outfished live baits and any other lure.
