Spencer the Grand - Audio Adaptation

- Spencer attempts to take on a foggy day while reaching his destinations. But on his journey, he discovers that poor visibility isn't the only danger.
This was one of those ideas that's been in my head for a good few years now. While the Nitrogen era of Thomas has a bad reputation, I've always had a soft spot for Spencer the Grand. I felt it was an interesting concept, as well as a pretty good story for Spencer's character, even though it's still held back by repetition.
I wanted to have a go at re-writing it, removing the repetition, as well as adding a spooky twist of my own.
This also marks my second attempt at creating my own artwork, this time using lining and overall making them look a bit more cleaner than the ones made for The Blizzard.
Huge thanks to GencyFan23 for both creating artwork and giving feedback for my own art that I made for this video.

Also thanks to 84FStudios who gave the story a read and suggested some tweaks here and there. Always appreciated

Just wanted to address a mistake in the credits. Turns out the original episode was written by Jessica Sandys Clarke, not Sharon Miller. I apologize about this and thanks to @HarryTheMediaDude24 for pointing it out.
Brilliant adaptation! I do like Spencer's determination in the actual episode, even though it still doesn't sit with me well due to the three strikes formula and how Nitrogen's fog is so bad that it makes it hard to see (hence why the fog in the model era proved to be much easier). Here though, I love how it was illustrated and I love how you made it into a spooky story with Spencer seeing these silhouettes of all the different lost engines. I even got emotional when I heard his quote "I don't deserve your kindness" referencing the numerous times he treated the Sodor engines as inferior before.
And I think it's no secret that CGI Spencer is the grandest depiction of his character, especially since the model era he is the main lead but is overshadowed by other main character. In CGI however, he actually gets a main lead to himself on occasions like Hero of the Rails, Spencer's VIP, etc.
Thanks. I always liked that particular line from the original episode and wanted to keep it here. I agree with what you say about Spencer's CGI portrayal. Considering pretty much all Hit era episodes had main characters in the leads with a few exceptions, it's nice that the nitrogen era did a bit more with him.
This was really a great re-written adaptation of spencer the grand, some of it was a bit spooky, but still a great story. Nice job on the audio story narration along with the other user that helped out with some of the illustrations and thumbnail. 🙂👍
PLEASE more stories like this this was amazing stories like this is what the community needs
I'd like to think that in the early days of the railway, Edward was one of those engines who tried to travel during the fog, and that he was one of the lucky ones since he was the express engine at the time and could outrun the figures.
Even though it’s not a good episode as it was from a very bad era, it’s still a very well done adaptation. Heck it’s even better the original episode itself.
I never thought a Miller episode could be made spooky but you certainly proved me wrong! Fabulous work
This was the better version than the original. Thank you
YOU FIXED A NITROGEN EPISODE! proud of you narrow
I didn’t think that it would be possible to rewrite a story by the Miller era and yet here we are proving me wrong, amazing work!
Great job ! Fog stories are always some of my favorite ones. I especially loved how you use spencer for this. Great way to expand on his character :)
Another brilliant audio story. Those fog engines remind me of the Nazgûl from the Lord of the Rings given how eerie they look.
I was just going to say that! The fog circles make them look like the Nazgul!
That was amazing! well done NG!
Thank you.
Do you accept ideas for future stories?
This is a perfect rewrite of this story. Instead of the repetitive pattern and such, this turned out to be a fantastic story with a scary twist in it.
Nice to see Spencer go through a tiny journey on being prideful in the fog to being careful in it. Also nice to see Spencer have a spooky encounter of his own. It gave him a lesson that you should be careful in the fog. Or suffer the same fate as those who are lost in the fog or crashed in the fog.
Well done on the rewrite!
I praise anyone who can give Spencer a well fitted character… WELL DONE TO YOU!! I love your work, and this is just certainly another one to go with the ever-growing collection of favorites from you!!
Awesome rewrite, mate!😄
This was fantastic
Sound just like the episode form the seasons of Thomas, just twerk a bit and much scary but calming in a way
This feels like Cambodian ghost story’s and boy do I like those
Interesting, may I know its?
I wonder if there would be another story like this or even a story about Thomas brothers

Those steam engine whistles sound so original and soothing!
I like to think that the dark areas on the front of the shadowy trains are stretched out mouths and their soulless eyes are at the top of their smoke box doors, like the victims of “The Ring”.
Lovely story, bitter sweet really I can only home one day those lost engines complete their journey.
The original episode was pretty mediocre. (Doesn't help that the 3 strikes formula was present and the fog effect did make viewing a little off put). But here, you made it much better. Plus I think a lost in the fog story that has a spooky tone is better because of the mystery.
Unexplained fog ghosts
I do like the original episode, but this version is much better
Scary work.
THE INTRO 😍
17:00 Nightmare on Elm Street??
More scary stories please
What do you about the possible ghost?Possibly S and M boxtanks?(due to shape). Was it Spencers imagination?
It can't be spencer's imagination, because Percy said he heard them as well.
That's creepy narrow
I think these fog engines sort of look like Rebecca’s class members due to their boxy shapes.
OMG i renember that episode
Is this part of “Horror of the Rails 5”?
Idk why but the engines of the fog remind me of the Marklin engine
When horrid of the rails come out
Better than the original episode.
that episode was by nitrogens era made that cgi episode
I'm a bit confused. How did Spencer travel down the Elsebridge branch if he just left Crosby? Also, why were the engines laughing about Spencer traveling down the loop, if there isn't any loop lines on the NWR?
Are you sure there’s no loop lines on the NWR? It’d be pretty stupid of a railway it’s size not to have at least one.
I'm positive. If you take a look at Awdry's map of the island, you can quite clearly see that there aren't any loop lines. That one story where Gordon went down one was written a long time before Awdry had the whole world building thing sorted out, and has since then been discredited.
@@randeshjayawandhane2844this is supposed to take place in the tvs cannon, not the rws cannon and here the loopline is in fact a thing. I recommend watching unlucky tug’s map of the tvs.
I think that was what the other engines THINK happened to Spencer.
Given the supernatural elements present through this audio drama, I'm inclined to think that he was supernaturally turned around back to Tidmouth, and no one realized it because the fog was just too thick to verify what really happened.
I though that in one cgi episode, Thomas HAD a loop on his branch line, stated by the narrator. 🤔
So..is this horror of the rails 5?
Someone needs to adapt this into trainz
I’m already imagining it
If this happen
Excuse me I wanted to make an adaptation of The creature of skarloey for Halloween, could I please use the audio in that video.
Don’t actually good. The coolest thing is I have all the characters in Trackmaster to scene.
