Me, being a metal guy playing with actual distortion listening to his "distorted" tone: "OK, why is he using clean if he likes.. oh, I can hear it, it's there.. kinda.."
As a massive grunge and punk head, I had the same exact reaction. Distortion is stuff like Nirvana and Black Sabbath, not just turning the gain nob on your amp up a bit lol
Even some early Beatles tracks were more distorted than this ffs!

imo distorted is nearly always gonna be better for solo except if its a specific genre that doesnt have much distortion like country but clean tons have so much more opportunity and ideas for making riffs and intros
What about Mark Knopfler? One of my favorite guitarists and plays clean strat solos without pick
It's an eye opener if you think about it the other way round.

@@sirgallabad He did have a bit of a distorted edge from time to time (“Money For Nothing”, “Heavy Fuel”), but Knopfler is well known for his clean strat sounds
Sounds like something you'd say if you only really listen to music that heavily features distorted guitar. I listen to a good deal of instrumental music with fairly clean guitar tones.

Having a college in music is very useful for composition and this short tells it. Everything you play sounds so well crafted it triggers me
Music college is a scam lmao. Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Yngwie Malmsteen, Greg Howe and Vinnie Moore (plus tons of others) prove that. The stuff in this video is extremely basic, not even being a hater some of it sounds great, but it's true. Watch the old video of Vinnie Moore improvising, he didn't go to college and that is improvisation for f sakes, a backing track makes mediocre playing sound a lot better to the untrained ear.

As a heavy metal guitarist I still love clean tones. Probably because I listen to so much djent that the smooth and echoey intros tickle my brain
There's great distorted solos and then there's Kerry king “solos" and all the evil ear murdering chaotic shit it inspired.
I just love how at the end they’re like “wow we both work well with each other. I guess our worlds aren’t so different after all:D”
