    Anyone who's tried to sing Survivor at karaoke or anywhere knows that their songs are some of the hardest in the genre to sing. Back in the 80s Jimi's voice just RANG, and he had a power and emotive delivery that nobody - not even Perry or Delp - could match. I give the guy an insane amount of credit for singing this song in the original key (Cm) nearly 3 decades after it came out. You're the man Jimi!

      Yes, Survivor is freaking hard to sing. Both Dave Bickler and Jimi Jamison songs.

      You’ve written wonderfully here of Jimi’s talent, his beautiful Golden Voice, the yearning in it, one of a kind. I miss him everyday 💔💔💔

      I've sung Eye Of the Tiger a few times. Difficult, but fun. Same with several of Billy Joel's songs.

    Remembering Jimi recently he used to follow me on Twitter when he was still alive, he was such an amazing dude. And this is my favorite Survivor song. I'm 25 right now, time goes by really fast.

    So sorry to hear of Jimi's passing. I had the honor of serving Survivor as a security guard in the mid-90's. I never got too much time with Jimi, personally, but he was a true professional and courteous to those around him. I'm so grateful he opted to share his awesome gift with the world............ rest in peace.

    Rest in peace and thank you for sharing your talent with us Jimi. He and Dan Hartman were very underappreaciated performers. Both are gone, but not forgotten.

    This was such a great song on the When Seconds Count disc; it's sad that the only live version I could find online was this one. Jimi was just not hitting the notes here. Ouch!! And so sad for his passing too.

      Hey Phillip, I don't think so at all; he's singing in his register. This is a live gig and probably well into the set.
      RIP Jim!

      My thoughts exactly listening to the song. But saw Survivor in 1985 on the Vital Signs tour and they were FANTASTIC!! So tight and Jimi was at the top of his game. R.I.P. Jimi.

    I think they're down half a note already . The air is just too high up his lungs like when youre having a panic attack . I sing and have it all the time . It takes a few songs and than its gone and you hit those high notes again . Great singer none the less !

    What’s the guys name who is next to jimi on the guitar 🎸?

    • @Rabant777
      @Rabant777  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jimmy Jay (from the band H.E.A.T.) is the bass player on Jimi's right. Tommy Denander is the guitarist on Jimi's left.
      Jona Tee (from H.E.A.T.) is on keys and Magnus Ulfstedt (from Eclipse) is on drums.

    He couldn't have sung the verses that low if they had put it down a step. He can sing it in the key they used here, he just needed to focus on using better technique throughout his range and lightening up a little, not pushing so hard.

  • @jamisondean3479
    @jamisondean3479 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Jimi is great! But unfortunately every singer has their bad nights where you just dont have your normal range. I even have a Survivor concert from 1986 where he had no high register. And I have another concert by TOTO from 1985 where Fergie had lost his voice! And if any of yall know music, you know high that dude could sing! He he he... Things such as voice strain or high pollen can contribute. And if you dont sing for living then it would be harder for you to understand. In the studio you can get it right but if your singing live, not so much

    Aaahh, finally get to hear this classic live. Just a shame that Tommy couldn't be bothered to learn Frankies great solo and the tone, which is full of classy phrases rather than a soulless stab at self indulgence...lazy stuff

    • @mattshuttleworth2841
      @mattshuttleworth2841 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      According to Tommy Jimi told Tommy not to learn the solos and keep it fresh.

    • @stevetaylor6488
      @stevetaylor6488 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattshuttleworth2841 - thanks Matt - even so, some of the original phrasing could and shouldve been used. It doesnt sound fresh, it sounds contrived, lifeless and 'for the sake of it'

    • @stevetaylor6488
      @stevetaylor6488 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100% agree. Tommy shat all over this gig because he just overplayed on all the tracks. Especially thus track, the original tone isn't too hard to replicate and as you mentioned, some of those original phrases are timeless. Completely agree, self indulgence and lazy

  • @Drillin4Oil
    @Drillin4Oil 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh yeah. They should have played the song in a lower key. This doesn't sound good at all!

  • @pianomike7
    @pianomike7 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great song, but Jimi has a hard time singing the high notes, he used to sing easily when he was younger.

    • @mrss4278
      @mrss4278 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Didn’t we all sing better when we were younger and hit those high notes with ease.
