I watched almost all the One Blade videos, I could not understand this : they shave in the direction of beard growth with traditional razors, but with the Philips One Blade brand they shave in the opposite direction. Wouldn't this cause ingrown hairs?
Sometimes revisiting is good. All ways of shaving have their place. It just depends on how cloase a shave one wants. I never got as close a shave with my electric Norelco (like yours). It was a fast way to shave. I use it now to shave the back of my neck since I don't care if it's BBS. But the DE razor gives me the best shave. I wish I had gone back to wet shaving years ago. Thanks for the revisit.
Hey SL, glad you're back for a Friday. I too have one of these Norelco one blades. As you said not meant for a super smooth shave, but in a dire emergency (like i was out of everything including Barbasol) I guess it would do. I've gotten used to BBS shaves with DE. I am spoiled. Have a great week and smooth shaves
I started watching your channel because it showed up along with a bunch of other shaving youtubers after the Algorithm decided it was what I wanted after doing a lot of research before buying my first DE razor a year ago (or is it two?); but now I just watch your channel because of your humour.
Glad you found me! It’s like a whole new experience, using razors like this, isn’t it? I mean, they’ve been around longer than us but it took a while to cotton on. Happy shaving!
I used to use a safety razor 24/7, but now, only for special occasions. I travel a lot and electric shavers are more convenient for me. If I'm lazy and don't shave for several days, I use tor One Blade as a precut. Then I use my Norelco triple head for the shave. I may come back with the One Blade for places I couldn't get with the Norelco.
I bought mine about 4 years ago. The blade continued to work long after the that center section said that it was worn out. In fact, I used it for years and it worked OK. I just replaced the blade and the new blade cuts a bit faster, but not noticeably so. I shave dry with the One Blade. I find that it glides over my skin better when the skin and beard is completely dry. I seems to grab more on a moist face and hair. So, I just shave before taking my shower.
You're a great guy, buddy! Stay healthy! Just one comment - Oneblade is NOT a safety razor. It is not an electric razor. You don't need a 3 hour procedure for your beard to soak, soften or watever. You don't need a balm, lotion and a concoction :) I shave, then a leave my beard to grow to a half an inch. No razor blade can handle that. That's the purpose of one blade. It can take down an inch of beard and shave you almost as close as necessary. No soaps, no soaking, no balms. Bim-bam-boom and you're good to.go.
TBH, I think this thing is mostly aimed at people who don't enjoy shaving and tend to wait a long time between shaves (like me). I tend to not shave until the stubble is way past the point where a Mach 3 or whatever can easily get it off without a lot of pulling and discomfort. I essentially bought this thing to take off a week's worth (or more) of stubble as quickly as possible and then if I really want smoother, I can go over it with a wet shave or something. I hate shaving with a blade, to be honest. I shave with an actual razor maybe once a month and I spend as little time getting hair off my face as possible. I expect this will be a pretty good weed Wacker just to get rid of the thick stuff and extend the time between real shaves.
I really like the OneBlade, I bought it as a teenager because I didn't really want to wet shave and other electric shavers (the rotary kind) just didn't pick up all the hair. I would use it 3 times a week or so and the blade would last 6 months easily, I think even a year would be fine. Also, I'm pretty sure the battery lasts way longer than 45 minutes, charging once a month was absolutely fine. Then I tried cartridge razors and got terrible ingrown hair, so, after some time I switched to a safety razor. The ingrown hair healed and overall shave quality got much higher. I still use the OneBlade when I'm feeling lazy and, yeah the shave is probably like a safety razor shave after a day (or maybe less) but it doesn't bother me. I just love the zero-setup style. When it comes to dry vs wet, definitely dry, because when you wet shave with it (and here I mean no product, just water), it gets clogged up quickly and I feel like the motor struggles a bit. However, wet shaving is much cleaner (way less hair flying around). One thing left is I'm still a teenager :)
I love my safety razor and it's my primary shaving device, but close shaves really do make my neck suffer. That's why I have the OneBlade handy too. It never causes my skin any trouble.
I was using a proshield cartridge razor from Gillett, got a One Blade because I liked the idea of the product and the cartridge razor would cause a lot of irritation, pimples, redness and overall discomfort so I wanted something different, the not so smooth shave is something I was doing already not going against the grain after the first pass with the razor to avoid even greater irritation so it didn't bother me and the upgrade on comfort was welcome. Great to see a different perspective on the product, but the One Blade ended up being what I was looking for.
The recap videos with voice-over was a great idea! In regards to the OneBlade, it's a strange concept to me. Where does the whiskers go? Do they just fly all over the place? That's a bit dirty. Nice that you ended on a positive note (with a safety razor)!
I don't care for electric razors much but this is how they should be made and I feel like if you don't have time or just don't want to shave traditional this would be great.
I have one of these. It was the step I took toward DE shaving before I found your channel. I use it to trim me eyebrows, but I’m in love with my Merkur 34C and Feather blades!!! BTW, I bought a 1971 Gillette adjustable because I have a pic of my dad shaving with one. It’s my second favorite. You changed my shaving life!!! Thanks, Man!!!
I got mine today. It was on sale in a grocery store. It came with an attachment I didn't know about so far: A single blade guard that can be adjusted from 1 to 5. According to the packaging, those are millimeters and not hair clipper numbers. I tried this thing on my face without the guard, and it is very mild. However, I wouldn't put this thing on my armpits or bits without the guard because the blades on the edge of the cartridge are very close together. I know a thing or two about hair clippers -- this shaver basically follows the hair clipper design -- and the closer the part that moves and the one that does not are, the more aggressive the clipper. However, with this shaver, the blades are always at a low-attack angle, with traditional clippers you have to keep the angle yourself if you are buzzing without a guard, so this adds mildness to the shaver.
8:55 I've got it all right here Mr. Senator!!! I have it in writing, in multiple languages, and publicly notarized to be officially recognized by the great state of Texas. YOU SIR CANNOT BULLSHIT ME!!! I love it, Dad!! XD Keep it up!! XD
I used the One Blade for the first time today. I was realistic about it going in. I wasn’t expecting a BSS. I normally use a Braun Series 7. The strength of the One Blade, IMO, is there’s practically no clean up … blow out some whiskers and rinse. With the Braun I have to tap the cartridge, use a brush and put in the cleansing base. Plus, there’s the alcohol cartridges to manage. I use the after market packets. For something no fuss, the One Blade is pretty good. I know I don’t have a baby smooth shave, and really no one else will (except maybe my partner).
I have a OneBlade and I don't entirely agree with the reviewer. It's bloody brilliant! I suffer with sensitive skin and it's taken me 65 years to find a razor that does not irritate my skin. It's a godsend.
I always want people to shave with what works best for them. Your comment is a great insight that I hadn’t considered. I’ve thought about skin types, ethnicities, etc. but not those with physical challenges. I’d love to chat with you about that sometime. I want to give advice to all people that want to shave.
The One Blade is my absolute favorite electric razor for face shaving. Does it give the same feel as a wet shave? No, but visually it gets me the wet shave look without the wet shave drawbacks.
Like you said, its for those who like a bit of stubble. I look better with stubble. But not good fully shaved or medium beard. But i do shave once in awhile. But ill switch to this for awhile to let my skin regenerate.
I shave my face with a safety razor, and will definitely continue to do so. But for me the One Blade has its place for trimming various parts of my body hair.
If you just want to maintain stubble at a consistent length, there are tons of clippers/trimmers that will do that. I did it myself with Wahl clippers for a while when I was too depressed to consistently shave for real, plus it had the bonus of being able to learn to do my own haircuts at home during the worst of the pandemic.
I appreciate that, as a TH-cam wet shaver, you use (and admit to using) an electric. I use an inexpensive Norelco during the week and DE shave on the weekend. The whole giving an electric a couple weeks is to let your face grow back 'cause you're not scraping off layers of skin. I would respectfully disagree that a safety razor doesn't take your skin some getting used to, though. I'm not saying the way I shave is the best, only that I don't always have time to DE shave during the week but I like the results from a DE razor better.
@@jeffzest8393 My understanding is an electric relies on the elasticity of your skin to cut hair and that works better with more skin layers. You can call BS on the layers of skin explanation if you want, but you get a better shave after using an electric for a while and also aren't scraping layers of skin off with a razor blade.
New to the channel. I love your videos and attitude, i just had a question for you SL or anyone in comment section. What would you recommend for a man like myself who shaves daily and is relatively new to shaving with safety razor. I currently have a parker 99r but need recommendations on blades to buy that would be good for daily use and not too aggressive? Thank you
I’d recommend getting a sample package of blades from a shave supply place or Amazon. Then you can find what is right for you. I find most blades fall in the middle with a few I think stink and a few I think are great. Maybe being a daily shaver you’d like a milder blade like Derby but that depends on your stubble as there are daily shavers that use Feathers. Try a sample pack and good luck.
Try the Treet Carbon Steel blades (burgundy & orange label.) I just recently heard about these; they have a nice “soft” feel on the skin and they’re cheap as dirt - $7 per hundred on Amazon. YMMV on how they’ll work with the 99R (I’m not a fan of Parker) but with my Rockwell 6S they’re very comfortable.
Ever try shave butter? DSC makes phenomenal shave butter. It's quite honestly the best stuff I've used for shaving. It beats soaps, creams, foams, gels everything. It also extends blade life. It really does
I'm with you. I'm never comfortable unless I get a clean shave. And those gaffes in the instruction sheet! Haven't they ever heard of a wet/dry razor before? I admit it's a space age concept, but didn't George Jetson have one? I think this razor is for guys who can convince themselves the day's over before it begins by leaving the house with five o'clock shadow.
Kicking my Sinatra. A couple days ago I watched your review on the twig single edge razor & at the end of the video you mentioned you were giving away the crome version. I would of loved it but not worry I've just ordered 1 👍
I’ve had one of these and used it for multiple years as my primary shaving device. I do not use cream with it. I just like how quick it is. It’s not good for super short hair like some of your clips and does not give you a clean shade. Honestly it functions more like a small clipper/buzzer, do not think of it as a blade. I like stubble so that’s why I use it. Watching you use this I don’t think you understand where the cutting is occurring, the middle doesn’t nothing, it’s just the ends that cut, again just like a hair clipper.
I use the Oneblade just to get the facial hair short and then use a traditional box razor to shave easily against the grain. I can’t shave against the grain without going with the grain first, or I will have razor burn, bumps, and quite a few cuts. In essence, I agree that it’s only good for a close shave, but not a real close shave.
It's not the skin that needs to get use to it, it's you that has to get use to a different result. They just say that because it's an easier pill to swallow. And what they mean by more comfortable with a less close shave is not that you will like the longer stubble but that it doesn't cut and rash your skin as much because it leaves it longer. For those with sensitive skin that is more comfortable.
I can say that I have the pro version and it's a lot better than the first edition plus with the versatility of sizes and I normally use it on my body because on the face I feel that it's more expensive since how much you shave in a week or so
Hey Sinatra Lennon. Big fan brother. Have you reviewed the Henson razor yet? Your thoughts on it are what I’m waiting for before I buy 😂 I’ve heard good things, but I’m waiting for the kings input on it.
Thanks for this I ordered this thinking will be a clean close shave but now cancelled it. Seems a lot of hassle keep going over your face when you just do it once with a traditional blade! Cheers
Im thinking about to get one but if used the mach3 for years cause its gives me a smooth skin and trims really close and have full control over it, but i have to buy the blades and they are getting expensive by time so i want to have something when i have no blades left. Do you recommend this one blade and if so do you recommend dry or wet?
Same problem here… been using mach3 for for months to get a smooth skin but iam thinking of changing Did u bought this oneblade and if yes how was ur experience with it?
@@vicky.editz. And are you satisfied? I was thinking to buy Panasonic Arc 5 but because i don't have it in my country if I buy it from Amazon instead of 159 $ i need to pay for deliver 250. Some other foil razors are bad for sensitive skin so i am interesting for Philips oneblade.
@SinatraLennon I bit the bullet and purchased the one blade. You're right it doesn't give a baby smoove shave but I feel like for $40 it's decent, the first time I tried I used it dry the second time I used shaving creame. I feel like the shave was a little better I'm still having mixed feelings about it
That special moment when you feel like an adult is when you realize you wish you were a kid again. But then we say well, with knowing what I know now but as a kid. Love you brother. Stay blessed
I never liked electric razors; I have one, but I almost never use the rotary shaving head because it just makes my skin itchy... I think it's because it just grinds the hair into powder which sticks to my skin and itch; and if I use it wet it feels sticky and weird and I have actually had it create weepers when I try using it wet too... I guess my skin is extra stretchy so it's able to bend in between the guards. Which is the same problem I have with multi blade razors; they also seem to occasionally catch a fold of my skin and really bite into it in between the blades, even when going perfectly straight... which isn't easy with the light floppy cartridge razors; so I regularly had them slide slightly sideways and give me triple cuts all over my face. And it irritates my skin a lot even with a single with the grain pass. So after the novelty of shaving wore off and I got sick of feeling itchy and/or having small cuts everywhere; I stopped shaving for 15 years or so; just had a full beard and occasionally in summer trimmed off the sides down to a 1mm length with a hair trimmer; which is the closest I can get with an electric without it getting very itchy. But then I tried safety razors; and that isn't itchy at all.. And I found the more "agressive" the razor is the less pressure I have to use which minimises the risk of the skin folding up and getting caught by the blade. And with a light touch it both makes my skin completely smooth without irritating the skin much. I've recently started trying a shavette; and while it takes a steady hand to not cut myself; whenever I don't mess it up it feels even milder to my skin on the first pass than the DE razor does.
Maybe their version of a traditional razor is a cartridge razor and not a safety razor? That would explain that not having an as close shave is more comfortable, you know, without the ingrown hairs and all.
Norelco is just the US name for Philips.. because when they wanted to enter the US market, it had to rename itself, because it's name was very close to Philco... hence Norelco
I wear a goatee, and have this electric trimmer. In this instance, “shaver” is a complete misnomer. It keeps the beard closely trimmed. I use blades on my face. No electric razor will ever give you a smooth, close shave. This (with attachments) is a tool for beards only.
I'm surprised no one has still told you that it's still not being done properly ..lol. sorry mate. Against the grain means the device should be used throughout like you would you use your safety razor from the lower neck shaving upwards..apply that everywhere. . Essentially you're holding the one blade device like the way you would the safety razor even on the cheeks and else where. You'll see the difference. Just try it. You're holding it and also using it totally wrong .
I don’t think I could use one of these. Looks like it drags across the skin and doesn’t look very enjoyable. I’ve got a Panasonic shaver when I’m too lazy to have a decent wet shave. Does the job well enough when I’m in a hurry. Have a great weekend
Instructions do not show using perpendicular on long side, just small side….yet Phillips video does show perpendicular using long side. Can you reconcile? Phillips customer support is worthless. So unknowledeable about even basic information. P.S. You did use perpendicular on long side on sideburns.
The blades do not last 4 months as a daily shaver. Maybe a month. It says lasts up to 4 months shaving twice a week. It is a perfect beard trimmer though.
Hola compadre !!! Well ....... In my humble opinion nothing compares to sliding a traditional safety razor across your face it's a unique sensation, not to mention that wet shaving provides a very clean and masculine appearance, something that modern shaving toys can't achieve, not to mention that By using these artifacts I consider it a lack of respect for the traditional guild. I actually find shaves that leave a bit of stubble comfortable. So I guess everyone is different.
LOVE YOU!!! Thanks for the videos. They make all of our days! ❤
Also I'm pretty sure it was advertised to last 6 months on one blade back then.
I love my safety razor and it's my primary shaving device, but close shaves really do make my neck suffer. That's why I have the OneBlade handy too. It never causes my skin any trouble.
Can you turn the blade and do the edging around the small hairs around mouth? Great showing actual using!
Just realised why your voice is relaxing- it reminds me of Jim Reeves !!
“I’ve got it all right here Mr. Senator!”
*salute flag towel*
I enjoyed this one 😂
Ha! Yeah, had to do it.
I use the one blade trimming my beard around my mouth before, de shaving cheeks and neck.
I have a OneBlade and I don't entirely agree with the reviewer. It's bloody brilliant! I suffer with sensitive skin and it's taken me 65 years to find a razor that does not irritate my skin. It's a godsend.
I love my one blade. I have dyspraxia and its been a game changer. I just shaving oil with it and it works really well
I always want people to shave with what works best for them. Your comment is a great insight that I hadn’t considered. I’ve thought about skin types, ethnicities, etc. but not those with physical challenges. I’d love to chat with you about that sometime. I want to give advice to all people that want to shave.
Hello I have one and I only use it to cut next to a mole on the face that I have to be careful with, otherwise I use the T2 or 6S.
It's my go to travel shave. Just close enough to do the job
One guy on TH-cam said could run over lips. Tried and cut lips. Not supposed to run over lips or did I press too hard? Thanks.
Yo you should be on radio or voice over work/commercials. Very good voice.
The One Blade is my absolute favorite electric razor for face shaving. Does it give the same feel as a wet shave? No, but visually it gets me the wet shave look without the wet shave drawbacks.
I like that you used the same towel.
Many thanks for honest review
I like your new towel
I appreciate that, as a TH-cam wet shaver, you use (and admit to using) an electric. I use an inexpensive Norelco during the week and DE shave on the weekend. The whole giving an electric a couple weeks is to let your face grow back 'cause you're not scraping off layers of skin. I would respectfully disagree that a safety razor doesn't take your skin some getting used to, though. I'm not saying the way I shave is the best, only that I don't always have time to DE shave during the week but I like the results from a DE razor better.
You need to give it a couple weeks because not scraping off layers of skin? That makes zero sense to me. Please explain.
Thank you
You can go with personna blades or astra. Tried and true and they're middle of the road on aggressiveness.
I've been wet shaving for about 6 months. I ordered a variety pack of blades and my favorite so far are Persona Reds!
@@buckturgidson1448 Only good for a shave or two though; the soft carbon steel loses its edge very quickly.
Hey man. Please make sure to moisturize your face and apply cerave face sun screen. But please use a hood moisturizer.
You have to wait for the skin to get used so you can miss the window for returning the electric shaver
Oh wow that's a very interesting point I'd never thought of before! 😮🤔
Ever try shave butter? DSC makes phenomenal shave butter. It's quite honestly the best stuff I've used for shaving. It beats soaps, creams, foams, gels everything. It also extends blade life. It really does
Is it possible to buy it separately from their razors?
Have you tried the Henson razors?
Hey Sinatra, i got one myself too. I think it's okay. But you Have a wonderful day dude !
Thoughts on gillette razors vs safety razors?
👍👍Great talking to you today
Glad I finally got to talk to the Legend of West Coast shaving!
Hi Sinatra your old pal Darren. My electric shaver of choice is the babyliss i stubble
can you test the 360 one ??
Same problem here… been using mach3 for for months to get a smooth skin but iam thinking of changing
Did u bought this oneblade and if yes how was ur experience with it?
@@vicky.editz.Did you buy it?
@@AmonnRa yep did
@@vicky.editz. And are you satisfied? I was thinking to buy Panasonic Arc 5 but because i don't have it in my country if I buy it from Amazon instead of 159 $ i need to pay for deliver 250. Some other foil razors are bad for sensitive skin so i am interesting for Philips oneblade.
@@AmonnRa actually its better than i expected tbh it really gives a quite close shave when u shave against the grain and smooth
Try Trader Joe's shaving cream, it glides much smoother than barbasol imo
I love mine for touchups at 4th Pass. I shave once a week.
Hello buddy great video i enjoy it very much i hope you and your family have a great weekend
What is that strange red and white striped object in the background?
Does it give u a nice close shave like a manual razor
No!
@SinatraLennon I bit the bullet and purchased the one blade. You're right it doesn't give a baby smoove shave but I feel like for $40 it's decent, the first time I tried I used it dry the second time I used shaving creame. I feel like the shave was a little better I'm still having mixed feelings about it
My brother shaves with hair clippers. That's as close as he ever wants it.
That special moment when you feel like an adult is when you realize you wish you were a kid again. But then we say well, with knowing what I know now but as a kid. Love you brother. Stay blessed
You’re exactly right!
Definitely great for sensitive skin. Love mine but certainly not for everybody just like anything else. Hope all is well, SL!
Well done buddy . You've lost alot of weight. Good on you
Electric shavers don't cut it for me. Pun was intended.
Rob from Suffolk here. Its been a while, where's the green towel gone?
This was just a one off callback to my original video reviewing this trimmer.
I have the one blade. I use it when I don't want to razor shave, shaving irritates my face no matter what I use.
Barbasol brushless shaving cream made in 1919 buy an mit professor in indianpolis indiana he had a thick beard butbsensative skin
I shave mine completely dry no shower nothin, seems to work the best that way imo
I heard a hilarious swish when you saluted the flag.
What was that tiny squeak righter after saying "This time I'm gonna go dry." all about man?! 😂
Sometimes, electric ⚡️ 🪒 includes the wet shaving as waterproof.
Saludos!!!!!!
I dont have a beard. Very 3 days i get stupid patchy 7 o clock (more growth than 5) shadow
I got this to test as an alternative tonmy Gillette pro shield×gel
My face looks clean shaved and smooth.
But say if my gf wanted to run her hand along my jaw you still feel hair stubble.
Heavily disappointed but I'm only out 30 bucks till i return it
Hey Sinatra Lennon. Tbh i would not use that one blade, looks & sounds awful haha. Got myself Barbasol off Amazon, best canned cream i have used. Have a good one.
Anthony 🇬🇧
I have this shaver and it's nice, although the blade is slowly dulling
