The fact that experts thought that most of not many would have serviced the tragedy of the wall wasn’t present is sad. The two “survivors” are most likely incredibly disfigured, one is to possibly be completely paralyzed….these folks love lives, dating lives, income, will now change for the worse as folks will forget them over time and move on.

I think its likely everyone would have survived had the wall not been there, if not most. Planes are designed for belly landings in emergency situations. I'm interested to learn more as to why thy have that wall there to begin with. Such a devasting tragedy, my heart aches for the families.

The plane's direction was heading towards runway 01 before the bird strike
They were given a clear signal to land on runway 01 but the pilot ignored it and decided to turn around and do the fatal mistake to land on runway 19 where the wall is
Even if there was no wall it would still be the same carnage as the pilots panicked

It’s Korean culture that families stay with the deceased body until they are buried/cremated and put to rest. When someone passes, there is no just thing as waiting. Funeral is done within 3 days and as soon as the person is deceased, they are already at the funeral home preparing for guests the day of or the next.
My father passed at 7pm in Korea and we were already at the funeral home (which is usually downstairs of a hospital) ready to stay there for 3 days. We weren’t allowed to go home to sleep because it was custom that we stay with the “body.” This is the reason why all these families are at the airport and not leaving until they receive the remains and transported to a funeral home and put to rest at a grave or memorial site. RIP to all those who lost their lives in this tragedy. 명복을 빕니다 🙏

Lots of questions. Did the pilot know ahead that there is a concrete block (safety antena embedded)? Why did the control tower tell the pilot to land in the opposite direction from his previous attempt, knowing there's a concrete block there! The fact that the pilot expressed "mayday" should have been a warning to the air traffic controller that that the plane was in distress. And may not be able to stop on the landing strip. Therefore, the concrete block should have been a huge factor for the control tower, and they should be held responsible for this.
INCOMPETENCE on the airport management going to the top and all the way down.
This airport was not set up for distress may day emergencies.

Camping out at the airport is not helping. Sadly, their loved ones are gone, and their bodies have been burned and dismembered. I think the pilot had a big problem. Even if the landing gear hydraulic system failed, there was still an electric hydraulic system, and finally a manual landing gear system. If it still couldn't be opened after taking so many measures, it would be fine. At least there was still one engine working. He could fly to the nearby Jeju Island Airport, which has a longer runway, and notify the airport staff there in advance to spray firefighting foam on the runway. Landing at this time can reduce more damage. I don't understand why he was so anxious to land there.

I've seen some criticism mainly from the west why Korean media isn't focused on finding instantaneous answers to the technical reasons for the crash. Korean media has asked questions but they and Koreans understand they will come with the investigation and FACTS. We are not going to waste all of our energy on 101 theories without the evidence. Korean media and Koreans are focused on the victims and their families FIRST. As a Korean those are the stories I want to hear now. Thank you Steve Patterson and Today for giving a respectful voice to the victims and their families. You are one of the first foreign journalists to pronounce "Jeju" correctly since the crash.

Nothing was wrong with the plane. Clearly the pilots panicked after the bird strike and lost situational awareness. Causing them to think of only one thing "land immediately". After touching down at the halfway point of the runway with no gear, there simply wasn't enough friction to slow the plane down. People would've died regardless of the wall. However, the wall definitely was a contributing factor to the number of fatalities. RIP to all victims!

  • @stratocasterblue

When a hydraulic line is cut the engine pump and all of the pumps won't do anything or the ptu If you look close at the video where the white smoke is, When the plane struck the birds you can see on the left of the white puff a smaller darker plume and hydraulic fluid is dark red or purple, When the plane hit the birds I think they bent or broke a blade causing a metal piece to fly around inside and cut a hydraulic line and all hydraulic pressure was bled off, That explains the dark plume of liquid and with an open circuit none of the pumps will work or the ptu they just dump fluid on the engine and no pressure for anything in system b. Pilot Blog shows the plane approaching and at 50 feet high you can see damage on the left cowling, That is not T/R as he points out they will not deploy over 10 feet high.
That is also why no flaps, No air brakes but the 737 can still control rudder, Elevators and ailerons with system a hydraulic circuit and so they were able to land with full control but without system b no flaps and their stall speed would be much higher explaining the high speed landing and it explains why they would choose a belly landing knowing they would stop faster skidding on the fuselage tail and engines rather than not having primary hydraulic brakes on rolling wheels so they opted not to deploy gear and might have even thought that dirt embankment for holding up fiberglass antennas would help safely slow them how would they know it was loaded with 2 foot thick concrete.
I think they are going to find a broken blade and a cut hydraulic line on the left engine All my best to the familes and everyone involved
