GM should be watching and thanking you for keeping their trucks on the road. Not saying their trucks are bad. Just thanking you for keeping their trucks on the road. I got an 07 Duramax with 281k and its been great.
Im right there with ya, just bought a single cab lly. Paid 3k for it with 155k on the clock. Frame is great, but it has some rust. It runs tho, well did, i almost got the motor out. Doing a full swap from my truck. But its gonna be a full frame off.
@TruckMaster I actually wanna run in ODSS this year. So with my powertrain, and what im going to build, it should be fun. And the big truck as a tow pig. SBE motor in that but with all the goodies.
Little bit confused here, now the pins are supposed to have rate of failure, that means they need to be replaced and and upgraded, the bolts are not properly torqued it puts much more load on the pins. That's the reason for failure.
Just did the same with my front and rear fuel tank crossmembers not to difficult. Originally the rear fuel tank strap rusted through and the driver rear upper shock mount rusted through. Bed had to come off. Work came out great! New cross members and both sides upper shock mounts burned in frame got cleaned up and repainted. 5.3 flex fuel rcsb Z71 4x4 back on the road for another 150k
There are prebent brake line kits made out of stainless steel. Those pins in the crank,There is a shop in Utah that eliminates them and machines the crank to accept a full half moon key.
So, have you been doing this engine long enough that disassembly/assembly is just second nature? I know in my 20 years of owning the 7.3 Powerstroke, I could take it all apart and put it back together by memory. I was watching you pull it apart and setting stuff aside when most of us have to lay it all out and remember the order of parts LOL....Great video!
Maybe keep the fifth rails that came with this truck and leave it in this truck or put it in wife max then but a gooseneck plate for fifth wheel rails and you can pull your goosneck if ur Denali goes down
Been working on cars most all my life or at least better n 50 years of it so far now that i'm 64. I have never heard anyone say ( Jump Timing ) It's always been said the car truck whatever jumped time. Timing is what you set , jumped time is what it did.
Dude you got all the knowledge and the resources to know what to do with all of these duramax, makes me jealous, cuz it makes me sick to my stomach not knowing what my 2015 LML duramax exactly needs, cause she does need a good bit of fixing like needs a pretty good restoring job to do and some upgrading to do I wanna keep her in a daily truck driving to work and anywhere I go, but like better performance, drives awesome and a little bit fast obviously. But I have no clue where to start or what stuff I need to have
I have a rust free extended cab for sale if you want to cut the rocker and cab corners off to replace those. It comes with the rear doors. Truck was from Nevada. I'm in southern Indiana if you'd be interested I could meet somewhere
Great win! Still a lot of work ahead of you. If he thinks jumped timing, check crank/cam sensors. Question: Where would you find the electrical diagrams on these duramax's? I have looked around but can't find them.
I have an 02 ccsb that I bought for 5,000. No rust at all. Of course I'm in Texas. Spit block heather on freeway and now have oil in coolant, water in oil and blows oil cap on the ground when unscrewed. I think i broke it. Damn, project time.
@@jarvislarson6864 it’s extremely explosive. It causes early combustion. if the glow plugs are on that can also cause it to pre ignite while exhaust valves are still open
Im new to your channel and i have an all original 2004.5 LLY ive owed since new and she really has skin cancer bad. I unfortunately do not have any where to work on the old girl but i want to keep it going. I live in southeastern Wisconsin do you know anyone who could do the work that youre doing to your latest build? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Yes would definitely pull the heads and check it over if I was into it that far. Sounds like he had bad injectors and thought the knock was from timing.
how's the Mahindra working out for you? Just curious. i bought a 2015 4530. I'm not a mechanic at all. I do more damage than repairs. I would tell you my latest screw-up but it's embarrassing.
Josh, I'm curious to know how you're gonna get a kodiac transfer case or a Kodiak transmission or anything from Kodiak Really, I've been waiting almost 3 years to get my transmission Built And then mark told me that they can't do it because they don't have parts. SO, how are you gonna get it done? Because I need it done
What is it with gm I knew the torsion bar backet rusted away but now the cross member too ?? I heard somewhere the frames rusted out as well I’m really rethinking about keeping the 03 duramax I know trucks rust but wow Chevy is getting cheap on quality steel my 1966 gmc frame is rusty but rusted out
Hear me out man. Enclose that overhang and turn it into your paint/ powder booth? I just feel like you do a lot of painting in your restorations maybe it would be worth it? 🤷♂️
This is what we should be doing instead of jumping into the EV market. Refurbishing and updating what was already made is much smarter than buying new.
Yes that is the most eco friendly and wallet friendly thing to do even if updating some technology for efficiency and performance....it's the only true recycling method the feed it to the crusher then shred separate materials and fire up a forge and melting down to make new is extremely inefficient when many vehicles are easy to replace drivetrain and live another decade or two
Enjoyed this video BUT I think you are a guluton for punishment Keep up the good work and I will always be watching. Rust is a killer, but you are fixing them right.

You should build a duramax swapped tahoe/suburban for the channel I think that'd be cool and work out good for ya
One day I’d love to do something like that
@@TruckMaster that'd be such a sick build for sure 🤘🏻🤘🏻 love the channel man thabks for another great video

@@TruckMasterdo you still have the tahoe
I bought a 91 ford f250 , that's quite rusty. This truck is inspiring me to fix mine. I thank you
I find It insane how such a new truck already needs so much rust removal.
China steel
new? i did'nt catch the year but its at almost years old

I am sure that it will be a showpiece when the project is completed. Amazing knowhow on these beasts.
There's a lb7 here in California a crew cab shortbed that has coolant in the oil that they want 2500 for
It's a 01 with 407k miles on it not to bad of shape clean truck
I’d buy it if I lived in CA
You can use an oscilloscope can figure out if the engine is out of time without removing one single bolt.
If you end up using that engine I would pin the crankshaft.and awesome video love watching your builds
Thanks
I am so glad I live in Texas. have a 20 year old truck and ZERO rust.

When buying any diesels what should the millage be ?
Under 300k but some engines can be under 400k older trucks newer trucks nothing under 200k for me
150-250
If you ever deal with a front seal leaking, check the front cover alignment.
Also, if you haven't planned it, convert the crankshaft snout from pin alignment to keyway. Those factory pins are notorious for shearing off.
I just converted my single cab using your video of the shorty build. What gas tank did you use? And what did you do with the fuel cooler?
I used the same fuel tank that came with the truck and deleted the fuel cooler
I would like to know where you can buy new brake lines. I have a 04 lly, I already have the new fuel lines from GM Dealership.
Definitely check the valve covers. I bought my Duramax with bent pushrods. It was due to someone spraying it with either. No broke cam or crank pin.
How does ether bend pushrods? Sounds like over revving cause
@@jarvislarson6864 it’s extremely explosive. It causes early combustion. if the glow plugs are on that can also cause it to pre ignite while exhaust valves are still open

The leading issue is emissions, to keep it simple we are destroying the air we need to breathe,
U wouldn’t sale it lol ?

my guess is shity fuel gumed up the injectors
I’d say a bad injectors or broke rocker arm
I paid 2 grand for my lly needs body work but mechanically truck is perfect
Bummer, wish i could buy something…
I'll stick with my Ram with a Cummins. Easier to work on, cheaper to rebuild and much more reliable than the Duramax.
