I enjoyed and definitely used my two pickup trucks between 1991 and 2001. They were small pickups that you rarely see anymore. Today, it's all about mileage. My 8 year prius gets 45 to 50 mpg. They are expensive to insure too.
I never understood why people purchase trucks who's bed is empty mostly. However, I believe it comes down enjoying that high seating, king of the road feel. For me, I've enjoyed sports cars, or sport sedans and a truck doesn't like taking corners too well. There is nothing more enjoyable then flying around corners while still being able to park downtown. The only way I'd buy a pickup was if it was for work or if they made one like a sports car.
@@freakfiveoh I had a new Mazda 3 that got 40mpg and a old salvaged Honda CRV that got 15mpg (manual). Guess which one I drove more? If you want to save gas, get a prius. If you want a fun drive, stick to your pickup truck.
Was your Sentra a manual? I always hear people talk about those old sentras getting ridiculous gas mileage. I had a 98 200SX, same car pretty much. Best I got was mid 30s mpg.
@@greeneggslamb9336 battery issues, transmission would kick, didn't like being high off the ground. Just a pain to maintain, needed something simple so I got a 2022 civic cuz its superior in every way
1# gas mileage 2# you dont haul or tow anything 3# lack of interior space 4# bed storage is not the best 5# everyone needs a favor 6# they are huge 7# not fun to drive
Now that my truck is gone, I do miss it, but I have a small trailer to serve the same purpose. I'd love to have another truck down the road, but I don't see the need until I need it for the hauling/towing capability on a regular basis.
80 percent of people who own trucks dont need them. a lot of the major banks call pick up truck, retirement killers because people buy them in their mid life crisis and end of ruining their retirement savings.
@@chrisx5127 Lol that's exactly why you should care about retirement.... If you're broke at retirement and aren't capable of making money (because you can't do the things you could in your youth) then what?
Saint Fifty One Ford F-150, gets good gas mileage, also bed covers, you just spent 7000 dollars more than a van for accessories and truck price. Vans for the price are really good vehicles.
Had an 08 tundra when I was 12 years old. I watched my parents fall in love with it, but also how much they hated it. Gas mileage 12-13 MPG, hard to find parking since it’s a big ass truck, and lastly well that’s about it. Super comfy though.
Yeah, luckily I’ve never had a crazy commute where I worried about gas mileage too much. Now that I’ve got my own house, parking isn’t a huge issue either, but I was worried about that for a long time.
@@borla4491 Do you get better? I would love a truck, but the low gas mileage concerns me. I drive like a gentle Grandma, but I do not know if that would cause much of a difference.
I have a 2014 f150 ecoboost with 35s and a leveling kit and I get 20 mpg, and i have enough room for everything. Where I live everyone has a truck. And my trifold bed cover is waterproof. I love driving my truck. It can get up to the high numbers easily.
very good reason you pointed out, that why i traded my truck for an Explorer, i only used the truck bed once in two years. also right when i bought it i had people calll me up needing favors, i hated it lol
I have a 2022 ram dually 3500, lifted 8 inches on 37s, im sure it will never see dirt either ....but I just like it cuz its cool. And that's all that matter to me
Thank you for your honesty,I need a truck badly but your points probably make me stop from making a big mistake ,my 30 mpg on a 19000 miles car is the best reason to keep driving it !
I have only driven mostly big v8 vehicles. I will be honest with you, the nonsense about gas mileage is like preaching about god and I don’t believe in either. I have had little cars that have little gas tanks but they go through gas multiple times a week versus my truck, I only need to fill it once. That truck that he was showing us, usually has the v6 on steroids and I hear they do get thirsty. I don’t have a led foot, I avoid following people too close or town traffic which creates a lot of repetitive acceleration and slowing down. Behind the wheel, you can plan your routes and control your behavior behind the wheel so you get more control of how much fuel you use because choices people make dictate how much fuel you will use it’s just much easier for pride absorbed people to blame it on someone or something else
@ralphbrown1053 fucking galaxy brain comment. You spend 100 bucks filling up your truck for the week, I fill up my camry for 40 bucks and get almost 500 miles highway on a tank.
@@TheScrubmuffin69 I had a Camry, I never drove far with it. It's boring to drive and I would have to rent motel/hotel to sleep in. With a truck, I sleep in the backseat.
In my humble opinion, pickup trucks are a waste of money for many people, and often serve as a subcultural status symbol. As a sixty six year-old man, I've learned many lessons about personal finance the hard way. My current car is a 2014 Honda Civic that I purchased four years ago for $12,000. (plus interest). When I bought it in 2017, it had 12,700 miles on it, and it was in excellent condition. It averages 30 mpg, and it took me two years and two months to pay it off (which of course is when I cancelled the collision coverage). My fuel & maintenance costs are very reasonable. So now I have no car payments, and my insurance costs me $47./month/$564./year (through USAA). This allows me to save & invest half of my paycheck (which translates to $30,000 per year, plus what I make on the investments). The FREEDOM that this gives me is far more precious than the ego gratification of having a vehicle that is larger, etc. than other people's vehicles. When I need a truck (perhaps twice per year), I rent one (which costs me a total of $80./year for the two rental days).
All fair points, and something most of us will probably learn the hard way. My truck was paid off, but now that I've sold it and I'm making payments on my Jeep, it's hard not to think about how I can better use the money. Cars are my hobby, but having a new car doesn't necessarily bring anymore happiness than an older one, at least not after the first few months.
@@freakfiveoh - Amen to that (your comment regarding how having a new car or truck doesn't necessarily bring anymore happiness than an older one, etc.).
I live in a rural area of north east Minnesota. I have a half mile drive from the highway on a county road to my house, it is plowed promptly but, here we need four wheel drive in winter. I am a retired carpenter, but, sill haul things all the time for my home projects. The trick on mileage is how you drive, and, what you drive. I have a F150 with the xtra cab, it is four wheel drive and has the 5.0 Coyote engine. I get about 15mpg driving short runs, but, on a hundred mile drive, I get between 20-22 mpg. That is not too bad, and, considering safety, a larger vehicle makes sense. Ever hit a deer with a small car? And, I live in deer country. I have the XLT and it is a great vehicle for road trips, the long wheelbase and weight make for a ride that is more comfortable than many cars.
The main reason I bought a truck eighteen years ago was because I bought a boat too heavy for my SUV. Then we had a travel trailer for a while. Sold off all the big toys, and now back to a much more efficient awd CUV. Also picked up a utility trailer since we garden and for dump runs. I do miss the truck sometimes though.
Everything he said is accurate. I've haul plenty of mulch/dirt in trunk and seats. I could carry moulding in my car but not in my truck without it over hanging the rear!!!!!
I like my Colorado Zr2, but do occasionally desire more cabin space . My favorite vehicle I’ve owned was actually a 2005 Honda Element. Big open cabin, easy to clean, AWD, and you could fold or take out seats to move cargo . Unfortunately car manufacturers now don’t seem to be creating anything like that anymore. It’s either cars, SUVs that look like vans, or expensive trucks .
Use vans, more storage and can carry 14 adults comfortably, has a payload of 3000-5000 pounds, it can also tow 5000-6000 pounds, not as much as a truck but they come 4x4 and 2wd, it has over 10-13 feet of bed storage, has a taller roof so more space than a truck, gas mileage is better (depends if van is the longest or short, vans come in much handy, vans may be ugly but you buy vans for utility!
I’ve been trying to convince the wife to let me get an old diesel E250/350. I know they’re rare, especially for a 4x4, but I think it would be an awesome thing own.
You forgot about the need to go "off-road" or not. Most dudes driving around with those trucks most likely dont tow/haul anything as I rarely see anything in the beds. I have a minivan while not as cool is extremely versatile.
had my truck for 6 years. just paid it off 2 months ago and I began to wonder why I even owned a truck. The first 2 points were the reason why I traded it in for a small car a couple of days ago. No regrets!
Trucks are fun, and it's nice to know you have the utility, even though you don't always need it. I kinda miss mine after selling it, and I'm sure I'll have another one down the road, but for now I wanted something different.
My F150 2.7 eco boost gets 24 mpg on trips. It hauls my boat with no problem. I became accustomed to parking it. Really glad I have it and I will definitely buy another one.
I guess depending on your lifestyle, some may not need a truck. I’d have to completely change the way I live and everything I do if i didn’t have my truck. And, admittedly, I absolutely hate driving or even riding in a car. I’ll keep the truck, to each their own.
@@southernguitarist6333 I traded my F150 in back in May of 2021, and it was a big mistake. My car drives like a dream, but I still miss my truck. I have had to uhaul once and I had to strap something to the roof of my Daughters SUV. I really miss not having a truck.
I daily drive and use my 1991 Mazda b2200 quite often, take it up and down the coast for adventures, off road it quite often too, I need my truck for my farm, and still get 29 mpg. it's 5x more reliable than any 2024 toyota, and I do all major maintenance, its cheaper for me to own than any honda civic. And me being an avid car and motorcycle enthusiast, basically working on cars and bikes daily, in between going dirt biking and taking weekly visits to the junkyard, and having a small farm, my 1991 Mazda truck is honestly the best thing. My bed is never empty. And even with 2wd and street tire's I go many places most people with 4wd won't dare. River crossings, soft sand, mud, off road trails, hills, its a sight to see this thing make it across every time, lol.
Some of those new engines they are putting in trucks drive like a dream. I’ve got a 3.5 ecoboost 10 speed and I fly all over town in that. FYI you can put the 5.0 coyotes in them too, may have done this if they weren’t so hard to come by. I like trucks for their versatility. Living where there’s snow in the north and wanting something that can do a little bit of everything leads you down the truck path.
I'll be honest. I just got my first pickup bc I wanted it. I've driven pickups before and as a 5'3" girl, I LOVE the power and the size of them and, for me, it IS fun. I've owned 2 sports vehicles and a luxury car but I love my big ole trucks. I also mostly work from home so I don't drive a lot and my man and I have several vehicles and a little Echo for errands. If it's going to be your ONLY vehicle and you need to drive often and far or you're not using it primarily for work, it makes no sense. I love my boy (named my Truck Rhodes/War Machine). He's a 2015 Tacoma with 92k miles AND he's manual. I've never seen a manual pickup and got this one for a decent price considering how ridiculous the car market is right now. Now I have my own manual vehicle to practice taking off from out of those DAMN inclines LOL. 😄
Didnt know your a pickup truck person I've owned 2 toyota highlander's first one got stolen though unfortunately it was a 2021 XSE gas model but have the 2023 highlander LE hybrid right now though but need something bigger like the sequoia or the grand highlander idk what to get tbh its confusing since I'm a 6^4 ft guy.
I bought my F-150 when I needed to haul my stuff from one town to another in the proccess of moving. Never thought I was gonna tow anything until my wife's car broke down. Now I've become that guy with a truck people call every now and then. Lol! Can't complain.
I want a truck so bad.I wanted one for my first vehicle at 16 but I was forced by my parents to buy a car.I’m not allowed to get a truck till 18.I can’t wait to buy one.in 1 1/2 years.(Not that I’m counting lol)
People should buy the cheapest and most economical vehicle they can find to get them around. If they need to haul something then just rent a truck or hire a friend. Then spend the thousands of dollars you save on lavish vacations in the mountains or abroad. I own a home and could really use a truck. I rather drive a Corolla and travel than sit at home with my sixty thousand dollar half ton twidling my thumbs. Love your video. These are all the exact reasons I don't own a truck anymore.
To each their own, I don't disagree, it's all up to the individual. I'd have a lot more money in general if I settled on a corolla early in life, but I enjoy my excessive cars. They can become a burden though. Then again, when I became a homeowner is when I found more and more use for a pickup truck.
There are 4 types of people who buy trucks. Rural folks who definitely make the most use. People with jobs that need a truck. People who do a lot of camping/boating. And the last which is the largest segment, people who just want to feel macho and you can tell because these trucks won't have a speck of dust on it.
The last truck I owned 40 years ago was a 65 Chevy short box with a 6cyl and three on the tree. It was fun and easy to maneuver and park. I looked at a new F150 and it is just way too big and when it comes down to it I just don't need it. Not to mention the prices are just ridiculous. They just don't seem like what a truck should be. Just my opinion.
I have had in the past a truck, and i barely used it all. I had to put a canopy cover +5k usd of after market accesories to make it “functional ”. Where as an SUV with 4wd, you fit AT/MT tires, suspension if needed, bull bar, and rear protection, a snorkel and thst’s it! I seriously am considering buying an suv for my second car i have the possibility of a Toyota Fortuner 2023 with 16,000 kms. I prefer this over a truck no sweat. But don’t get me wrong, when i had the Triton L200 it was a good car! I loved it! But it comes with many inconveniences, that now thinking long term, won’t work for me. So SUV it is. This video helped me get this clear picture of what I wanted originally in a car for this second time.
I have a 2015 Camry and I’m happy with it. I don’t really need a truck or want a bulky vehicle like a pickup truck. My next vehicle will be an electric sedan or hatchback.
I’m thinking of getting my first truck, always had coupes and sedans. I definitely do not NEED one, I don’t plan on hauling or towing anything. But I just like them for some reason
I just want a bigger vehicle, driving a car around trucks and huge SUVs scares me. I also want off-road potential just in case I need it, but I could get a crossover like a Ford Explorer.
I drove a Mazda B3000 for years and it was good for when I was using it as a truck and decent when using it as a daily driver. There really needs to be another truck in that Ranger/B-Series size category.
I owned a truck for 12 years and loved it. It was a 2003 ford ranger but I traded it in for a 2016 mustang. At the time, my truck had many miles and it was about to break down so that's why got rid of my truck. Once I get some things paid off, I will get me another truck.
Thank you. My parents keep telling me to get a truck in steady of a car or motorcycle because I'm a welder. But I know will not drive the truck if I buy one. Plus I like sporty vehicles.
I will say, I've enjoyed having a truck more than I thought, but I do miss my sporty vehicles. I'm still working towards having my truck and a fun car on the side.
#5 is so true. Its fucking annoying. Everyone i know is constantly asking me to move something or pick something up. Or they want to just borrow it and not put any gas in it when they are done.
Had a 01 ranger in my teens and used the bed rarely.. then got a 2012 optima and persoanlly wish i got a truck instead. Since moving to TN i bought a 2nd vehicle a 2017 titan and have used the bed a lot.. one think i missed goin from small truck to car is no room for bulk items. I am now considering trading my 2017 4wd titan for a new ford maverick. I need a bed to haul trash to the dump, i do some woodworking so plywood sheets and 2x are a must and i also have a smaller honda recon that id light to haul here and there to go offroading. While i dont need a 1/2 ton truck i think the new Maverick is a good size "truck" that will fulfill 90% of the shit i need it to
A truck is never a mistake, just have to make more money to have 2-3 vehicles around… gotta always have a truck, maybe a large suv and then for daily driving to work or quick trips to town you have a good mpg car
Good things to consider. I’ll be buying a new vehicle in the next 2-5 years and I’m planning to go electric.. and was thinking the F150 lightning as a family car. It still has some of the struggles you mentioned.. but the storage problems and rainproof problem is much smaller with the lightnings front trunk. I was looking at other electric vehicles mainly the Tesla Model Y to have a family friendly crossover… but like you showed.. the in-cabin space, especially for car seats and such, is HUGE in the back of the truck.
I'm waiting to see how the electric truck stuff plays out. I don't mind the concept, and I think they're more than capable for 90% of modern truck drivers, the cost is the big kicker right now.
You want to really do your homework before you seriously consider the electric truck. I understand that they loose range. You can buy gas anywhere, you can’t buy electricity and recharging stations are still scarce in many areas. An electric vehicle may or may not be practical for the needs of your lifestyle
It's true, I tried to sell mine but then I realized I missed it too much. I'll be curious to check out the electric options when they're more acailable.
If you need to move stuff around but you only need to do it once every few years, just rent a U-Haul for like a 100 bucks, there’s no need to buy a whole new truck for that
What i been doing to sleep in my truck is? Keep a sleeping bag in it, to lay it out in the bed and sleep in the bed. but they just don't make them for a 6'2" tall guy to stretch out on the seat.. If they would just make the seat lay back or wide enough to stretch out on the seat to sleep. They would sell more of them. But sleeping in the bed is what I've been doing. I got better use of a my 150 dollars a night 👉👉 rather than a dam MOTEL HOTEL
I definitely didn't regret the trade, but I did miss my mustang from time to time. I think deep down I'm a car guy most, but my F-150 was by far the most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned.
I'm one of those truck owners who 98% of the time don't actually need a truck. However there is some weird peace of mind that if and when the other 2% occurs I have a vehicle capable of handling those tasks. Kind of like the argument of why pay extra for a 4x4 truck if you live somewhere you'll almost never need it. Over the past 8 years I've only had to engage 4wd twice but I was damn glad I had it those two times. I'm also lucky enough to have a job where I get a take home work vehicle so I don't have to use my own gas to get to and from work. I do agree with it being a pain when it comes to parking. I usually find myself parking further towards the back where there are less cars. Also getting groceries with already having kids im the back sucks. You get used to it after a while, I've owned 8 trucks within 8 years (I have a problem), two with full blown suspension lifts and mud tires, but that's a whole different pain right there. Anyways point being to anyone wanting a truck but hesitant because you may not need the capabilities of a truck all the time, just go and get one. It becomes a lifestyle and you get used to the inconveniences that come with daily driving a full sized truck in exchange for having capabilities that other types of vehicles don't have. Great video. All valid points to think about.
If that power / peace of mind is worth the extra $40k or whatever it is costing you for the few times a year you need it, good for you. But it doesnt make financial sense and oversized trucks are one of the reason many people are living paycheck to paycheck. Buying things they dont need and cant afford.
@@patricksorenson9586 I had a new Mazda 3 with 40mpg. I hate that thing. So boring to drive, and I couldn't fit everything I need in the trunk. Ended up only driving a total of 15000 miles in 5 years. Great MPG but if the vehicle is boring to drive, what is the point? Meanwhile, ever since I got my Titan Pro-4x, my mental well being and health has slowly recovered. It a joy to drive her everyday. And I'm starting to do off-road (whole reason I bought her) and it so much fun!
Other than higher fuel costs, you also have higher registration fees and MUCH higher maintenance/repair bills. However, I can't drive up in the mountains or move furniture with my sedan. I think I'd just get a rental truck for those things.
I thought that way too for a long time until I got a truck lol. No regrets except well, the fuel cost. Almost at 70,000 so let’s see how the maintenance bills look like when I take it in…
@@TheFlyingFish692 Even for my sedan, some parts are expensive to replace (brake components). Trucks are just so useful though, it can definitely outweigh the cost.
Nice video. I’ve always had a truck. I’ve never really been a car person. We get allot of snow here and I’m so used to having one I don’t think I could give it up. I’m planning to buy a car this spring. Probably a tdi and keep the truck for when I need a truck.
Great video, I love your perspective and how your straight forward. You make valid points and make sense in your explanation. Need more guys like you. I agree with you it's nice to have a truck and some people do need them, a majority don't.
I actually NEED my truck about 3 or 4 times a month on average. Some months are a lot more. September of 2023 had like 20 dump runs which sucked because I got two screws in my tires. I hate going to the dump.
My biggest complaint about my 01 f-150 is the length I have a 8ft bed I just need to get use to it sense I just got. But as a tall guy with bad knees a car didn't work was to hard getting into. Now if you're use to a compact car yes the fuel mileage sucks but my truck gets the same if not better gas milage then the crown vic I traded for the truck
Yeah, I definitely feel like the eco boost motors were more about power than actual fuel economy, at least with the 3.5. I know the smaller options do a little better.
I have owned one car in my life and will never get another. With the exception of not fun on the road, all these don't apply. But, I have more fun driving off the road.
I have a truck, a 1995 f150 5-speed Manual. Plan on buying a 2009 Corolla as my daily driver, I got the truck for free but not sure if it’s worth keeping for when I need it or if selling it is just the better option.
As some one who lives in rural GA, trucks are almost mandatory and make up 95% of the vehicles I see. A lot of the roads that connect us to highways or lead to more populated areas are dirt roads and the second it rains, 4x4 is a MUST.
@@LivingTheDream77 I highly doubt a subaru forester would make it through 4-8 inches of mud. I've lost count on the amount of times i've had to pull someones car for about 0.25 of a mile because they thought they could come to our side of town. I have a daily driver (2012 4wd Silverado) and a rescue rig (1982 k10). If you dont have good tread, a lift, and 4x4, its a gamble.
Found this by searching: *pickup trunk vs car* and then scrolling past racing and crash videos. I want to know which one will last the longest and handle bad bumpy roads. Ah, yes, and leg room.
I meant interior storage space. I got the cover mostly for securing larger items, but it’s didn’t prove to be as water right as I would’ve liked, so if I’m doing a road trip I don’t like to put luggage back there if I can avoid it.
Keeping my car but buying a truck. I can’t take it anymore. Too money times this year and last year I had to throw stuff in the backseat of my car and I’ve torn the leather seat 😢. My gf and I have so many projects and I’m tired of hanging around HD to rent theirs....
My only concerns is what about off roading? What if bad weather happens and you need to leave town? I live in Texas and we had those back to back snow storms, and my wife and infant child, including myself, couldn’t go anywhere because our suv only had fwd and the one trip I tried to take it out to get gas because our generator was running out of fuel, I was sliding all over the road. If you’re living in the city and the truck is just a pavement pounder, sure you don’t need one, but I also think there’s a lot more utility and security in one than most suvs will give you let alone a mini van.
I've always owned a pickup truck. But no, I wouldn't buy one of the bulky 21st century pickups. And the newer they get, the bigger they became with front ends that look like you're standing in front of a semi. Of course if you stay with an older truck, you have to be prepared for mounting repair bills. That's the tradeoff to me. I'd rather drive something that.s better looking, even though I have to spend money on regular repairs, than what I call a pigmobile. And I know that my '97 GMC is appreciating in value at least as long as I can keep it looking respectable. It's only got a V6 with a standard tranny so it gets the best gas mileage possible, I believe, for a 1/2 ton. And never would I take a 4 wheel drive, living in the city. I did need the truck at one time when I was restoring my Model A Ford. Now that that's done, I still use the truck to go to automotive swap meets, sometimes to sell, since I'm still a collector of many automotive items, including spare parts for my truck. Yes, I did once pick up a good freebie dresser with my truck and once an old stereo record player. But if I had to go and rent a truck for good deals such as that, they would be long gone by the time I got back. As for interior storage, I'm not sure why anyone would do that. That just makes the truck look messy inside. Of course I'm not a family man, but even if I was I believe I'd say no to storing anything in it. You could even be adding to the weight and lowering your gas mileage by doing that. I do have a canopy for my truck and have never needed to carry anything taller than the canopy. If I do, I have camper jacks to take it off. I've always found enough room in my truck box, even being a 6 1/2 foot box for what I carry, especially if I'm just making a grocery run. Of course I make a lot more grocery runs than swap meet runs. Sometimes I'll even make grocery runs on my bike. But those times when I need the truck can make it all worthwhile when that box is empty. Yes, sometimes friends may need a favour and want you to carry something. But if you do a favour for them, maybe they can do a favour or two for you as well. A full size, long box truck is definitely too big for most parallel parking spots. But most guys who own such trucks don't live in places where you have to park in tight spaces. On the other hand, us city dweller types may also have a little pee pot for getting around in the city or even a bike or public transit, such as I use when I can. Not fun to drive? If you drive something from the '90s or older. I'll bet you'll have have fun seeing all the respect you get from truck guys, at least. Of course if it looks too nice, you may not even want to drive it in crappy weather.
1. Poor gas mileage 2. You don't tow or haul anything 3. Interior storage lacking 4. truck bed storage not the best for everyday storage 5. Having to do favors for friends 6. They're huge. Too big for garage, parking space, backing in 7. Not fun to drive
Always love commenting on local Facebook posts for my area… people will say like “ why do people have such big suvs and trucks.” They can’t understand why someone just can’t buy a car and then rent a truck when they need to haul or tow something… people can have way different lifestyles and goals, for many of us well we kind of need a bigger vehicle due to family, work, what we do for fun on our free time. I don’t see how anyone can live without a truck or atleast some kind of large suv like a Tahoe or Suburban. I do a lot of projects for my home/yard myself, and so only owning a car or small crossover suv ain’t gonna cut it, then add in road trips with 2 kids, maybe some other family and/or my 2 dogs… no way just the body count is fitting in anything less than my wife’s Durango and even that 3 row suv gets to be too small. Add in some bags, gear, luggage…. I don’t see how anyone travels around in cars… when I’ve maxed out a Expedition for a 8hr drive with just 2 toddlers and 3 adults. Truck for life
I think I have a love/hate relationship with my truck. I originally planned to get a project car as well, so I'd probably be happier with it if I had something else I was working on.
I don't think you have to be insecure to say you want a truck. I sold mine and there are plenty of times where I'd like to have it back. I could probably get away fine with something like a Tacoma, but I miss the more spacious interior of my F150. If we were to only buy cars based off need, we'd all by riding around on scooters and super compact cars.
What you described in the last part sounds like a lot of other countries. If you look at Europe where most people drive smaller vehicles live just fine, in some cases people don't even own a car because their great railways. I think wanting to own the largest vehicle money can buy is American thing, its the freedom to do so I guess. Good video though on shedding light why most people don't really need a truck, also Tacoma's are good trucks.
I'm a minivan guy takes care of all my needs even better than the SUV
Most people just want a truck to feel cool and don’t actually need one.
The same probably goes for most cars.

I enjoyed and definitely used my two pickup trucks between 1991 and 2001. They were small pickups that you rarely see anymore. Today, it's all about mileage. My 8 year prius gets 45 to 50 mpg. They are expensive to insure too.
A neighbor of mine has that combo of a prius and an old f150. F150 always parked until they use their boat or its snowing hard here in MN
We love our 1992 s-10 but never use the bed…
Just traded my truck in for a Camry. Gas was main reason but I’ll get by without my truck
Sitting up high definitely has its perks. I was always a Mustang guy before I got my first truck, but I needed something different once I had kids.
Bed is empty cause guys like you going around looking in truck beds🤣scary, fooled me once got the whole job box
At 40mpg in my '95 Nissan Sentra. I'm almost TRIPLE your gas mileage.
Rock on
@@freakfiveoh I had a new Mazda 3 that got 40mpg and a old salvaged Honda CRV that got 15mpg (manual).
I wanted a truck for many years... I finally got an F-150 this fall, and I love it! It's exceeded my expectations already.
That’s awesome!

80 percent of people who own trucks dont need them. a lot of the major banks call pick up truck, retirement killers because people buy them in their mid life crisis and end of ruining their retirement savings.
Why care about retirement. You would be old and wrinkled by then and can't do the things you could in your youth.

Get a van!
Saint Fifty One i was recommending a van because vans have a closed roof, protect the materials, also fuck democrats

13-12 MPGs? Ya'll got a heavy foot.

Thank you for your honesty,I need a truck badly but your points probably make me stop from making a big mistake ,my 30 mpg on a 19000 miles car is the best reason to keep driving it !
Maybe you can install a tow bar and buy a trailer, depends on your car and laws.
A VW Golf can legally tow up to 4400 pounds in Europe.
I've got a half ton folding trailer that I keep in the shed for when I need to move bulk. Works great
In my humble opinion, pickup trucks are a waste of money for many people, and often serve as a subcultural status symbol.
Can you Civic go off-road? I don't think so.
If you’re a fan of old school type SUVs, have you tried looking at the 4Runners? I test drove one and surprisingly liked it a lot.
My Car Life those Econoline series are very reliable, the express and econoline series are very great vans!
You forgot about the need to go "off-road" or not. Most dudes driving around with those trucks most likely dont tow/haul anything as I rarely see anything in the beds. I have a minivan while not as cool is extremely versatile.
Vans are definitely underrated from a utility point of view.
Trucks are the new luxury “cars” haha.
had my truck for 6 years. just paid it off 2 months ago and I began to wonder why I even owned a truck.
This is dead nuts on accurate lol. I've had '16 F-150 for two years now and can relate to all of this
Street tires and a light foot improves mpg. You got mud tires which is why you're getting 14mpg
That's true, but I wad only averaging 16-17 before the mud tires. I do a fair.amount of city driving though, so that's always a concern as well.
I guess depending on your lifestyle, some may not need a truck. I’d have to completely change the way I live and everything I do if i didn’t have my truck. And, admittedly, I absolutely hate driving or even riding in a car. I’ll keep the truck, to each their own.
Same here. Once you drive a truck, goin back to a car kinda sucks.
@@southernguitarist6333 I traded my F150 in back in May of 2021, and it was a big mistake. My car drives like a dream, but I still miss my truck. I have had to uhaul once and I had to strap something to the roof of my Daughters SUV. I really miss not having a truck.
Have owned only one car. But 4 trucks.cJust riding in a car makes me sick. -Trucks never do.

The irony of seeing a truck ad before seeing this video is hilarious.
I don't have any experience with the newer Explorers, but if it's good enough for the cops then it's gotta have some potential.
Yeah, my truck is paid off, but if it starts having lots of problems I’ll start looking for a replacement
I own a 2014 f150 5.0 xlt. Never looked back! Do more with this truck then I ever did with any of my cars.
I live is Alaska and little cars are what you see in the ditch when it snows hahah
While i dont need a 1/2 ton truck i think the new Maverick is a good size "truck" that will fulfill 90% of the shit i need it to
I dive a truck back and forth to work granted a car can do the same thing but I prefer trucks
Having never actually owned a truck and only driven one once, you might've just saved me from an expensive mistake.
A truck is never a mistake, just have to make more money to have 2-3 vehicles around… gotta always have a truck, maybe a large suv and then for daily driving to work or quick trips to town you have a good mpg car
Mid sized trucks are a good middle ground for those who want it for some functionality without sacrificing the mpg and repairs.
The only reason I don't have a mid sized truck is I'm 6'4" and the F150 spoils me for interior room.
Alright, mid-size truck it is then. Lol.
I like mid size trucks, but now I’m spoiled by the interior room of my F150
Good things to consider. I’ll be buying a new vehicle in the next 2-5 years and I’m planning to go electric.. and was thinking the F150 lightning as a family car. It still has some of the struggles you mentioned.. but the storage problems and rainproof problem is much smaller with the lightnings front trunk. I was looking at other electric vehicles mainly the Tesla Model Y to have a family friendly crossover… but like you showed.. the in-cabin space, especially for car seats and such, is HUGE in the back of the truck.
Electric is horrible lol.
Just get an electric suv. Trucks are not family vehicles. Trucks are for work!
Electric is just trending trash.
I appreciate the video. Thank you for honest opinion.
Only one of my Neighbors with a truck tows stuff the rest have 90k$ trucks that sit in their drive ways
Too many people have trucks that don't need !
It's true, I tried to sell mine but then I realized I missed it too much. I'll be curious to check out the electric options when they're more acailable.
If you need to move stuff around but you only need to do it once every few years, just rent a U-Haul for like a 100 bucks, there’s no need to buy a whole new truck for that
I own an v8 f150 platinum and my only issue is the size in certain parking lots
What i been doing to sleep in my truck is? Keep a sleeping bag in it, to lay it out in the bed and sleep in the bed. but they just don't make them for a 6'2" tall guy to stretch out on the seat.. If they would just make the seat lay back or wide enough to stretch out on the seat to sleep. They would sell more of them. But sleeping in the bed is what I've been doing. I got better use of a my 150 dollars a night 👉👉 rather than a dam MOTEL HOTEL
I went from a GT mustang to a F150, no regrets
I definitely didn't regret the trade, but I did miss my mustang from time to time. I think deep down I'm a car guy most, but my F-150 was by far the most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned.
I'm interested in the new Ford Maverick, I don't need to tow anything heavy and I live in a city.
I think it'll be a good option for people in that situation. Having a small truck bed comes in extremely handy.
❤Safety, cool, bed for garden & chicken shiat, off-road capability, camping, kayak...plenty of space for luggage!🙃

That’s funny I get 14 mpg also on a 3 inch level 33x12.50 on 20x12 -44 on the eco boost 3.5 motor crew cab
5 reasons i like trucks # gladiator
.offroading
.towing
.bedtop tents
And it turns out I only have three reasons
I have a truck, a 1995 f150 5-speed Manual. Plan on buying a 2009 Corolla as my daily driver, I got the truck for free but not sure if it’s worth keeping for when I need it or if selling it is just the better option.
As some one who lives in rural GA, trucks are almost mandatory and make up 95% of the vehicles I see. A lot of the roads that connect us to highways or lead to more populated areas are dirt roads and the second it rains, 4x4 is a MUST.
You can have awd cars
@@LivingTheDream77 I highly doubt a subaru forester would make it through 4-8 inches of mud. I've lost count on the amount of times i've had to pull someones car for about 0.25 of a mile because they thought they could come to our side of town. I have a daily driver (2012 4wd Silverado) and a rescue rig (1982 k10). If you dont have good tread, a lift, and 4x4, its a gamble.
@@hollerboys6667 i dont think you understand just how durable foresters are
Love my truck the gas mileage is shit but I can’t haul heavy machines with a tuner sadly
Excellent video. I'm considering getting one instead of an SUV. You gave me a lot to consider. Thanks.
Glad I could help!
trucks aren't worth the time or money. All hyped up and does not follow expectations. You'll enjoy a SUV better
Found this by searching: *pickup trunk vs car* and then scrolling past racing and crash videos.
I want to know which one will last the longest and handle bad bumpy roads.
Ah, yes, and leg room.
You really say you have no space for your luggage, while you have a bed cover? Did I hear that right?
I meant interior storage space. I got the cover mostly for securing larger items, but it’s didn’t prove to be as water right as I would’ve liked, so if I’m doing a road trip I don’t like to put luggage back there if I can avoid it.
Keeping my car but buying a truck. I can’t take it anymore. Too money times this year and last year I had to throw stuff in the backseat of my car and I’ve torn the leather seat 😢. My gf and I have so many projects and I’m tired of hanging around HD to rent theirs....
It's true, I just sold my truck and I question how long I'll wait before buying another one. I'd be okay with a cheaper, old truck for my needs.
But those times
when I need the truck can make it all worthwhile when that box is empty.
1. Poor gas mileage
2. You don't tow or haul anything
3. Interior storage lacking
4. truck bed storage not the best for everyday storage
5. Having to do favors for friends
6. They're huge. Too big for garage, parking space, backing in
7. Not fun to drive
How the hell do they lack in interior storage u don’t know what they need to put in the bed and it’s only u that thinks they aren’t fun to drive
@@Alaska5-k1p this isn't my opinion, I'm summarizing the video.

Truck for life
Paul, all i gotta say is i love my 2011 FX4 -- Flaws and all
I think I have a love/hate relationship with my truck. I originally planned to get a project car as well, so I'd probably be happier with it if I had something else I was working on.
How do you tear off a roof using a Honda Civic? Or pick up lumber? Or carry a ladder? Or buy a new mattress or recliner? Even carry fishing poles?
Only in America people feel they need a truck, it only shows that those people are insecure.
Mainly use mine for yard work and hunting
I have a a.r.e. fiberglass bed cover .its the best design.no leaks..i can lock it ... cant be brike into like the new designed ones that fold up.
