I went to a Japanese Steakhouse and I spoke with my waiter about my dietary restrictions and she went to talk to the chef about my options. The chef came out, spoke to me about all my needs, and cooked me a scrumptious meal especially for me! It has been so many years now, I can't remember what I ate, but I remember it was good! 😁
I just spent 5 weeks in Oaxaca Mexico and was amazed at how open the restaurants were to preparing oil free vegan meals for me. They also had a totally oil free vegan restaurant there. Also the meals were delicious. If at almost any restaurant I could ask for rice and veggies or black beans if the beans were not cooked in fat.
Thank you! I'm packing up some food for my aunt for her trip. She's vegan AND Gluten-free, so I want to make sure she has plenty on hand in case she can't find anything else. ❤
Yeah I learned from working in a restaurant that you can make up basically whatever you want. Lol learning this definitely helped me out when having to create a vegan friendly dish at a restaurant! It’s as simple as noticing a dish has black beans so you see a different dish you want that has chicken so you ask them to swap out the chicken for black beans.
Great video. Very helpful. I’m going on my first road trip with my work. I was nervous and thought I would be eating Lara bars or lettuce only salads. But I won’t. Yay!
Great video. I’m 64, been vegetarian most of my life, went vegan about 5 years ago, gluten free for 3. Eating out often is a challenge, so I don’t do it that much. I always pack my own food, water. Never thought about the mini-blender. Definately going to check that out. Thanks
Thank you so much for this video! Its just what we needed to prepare for our upcoming trip. Thank you for providing the link to TSA also that answered all my question. I feel like a huge weight has now been lifted of my chest. We are going to have food! WFPB Vegan meals and have a wonderful time on our vacation.
Outstanding tips. When I travel, I check ahead of time where there are grocery stores. I will often check in, unpack, put on my running clothes and run to the store. I uber back with enough plant based food to last my entire trip.
I love your videos. I have the added bonus of having Celiac. So when I travel I get so stressed out to find gluten free vegan options. Thanks for your tips. Maybe you can do a gluten free vegan travel tip video. 🙂 Btw I just got back from Italy and ate their pasta and pizza with no problems. I was in heaven.
These are some great tips ! A lot of these already i already knew because I had to learn them on my road trip to Texas .Subway was my best friend , I got the veggie Delight with no cheese and extra vegetables on one of their whole grain breads.
We really had no problems finding fresh fruit and veggie open-air markets, and even the pasta and pizza is different there because of the ancient grains used! We LOVED the food everywhere we went! :)
Great video! Very informative. Will be leaving for a family trip tomorrow and I have almost everything you suggested on hand. I was initially concerned about maintaining my plant based lifestyle while traveling, but after watching your video I’m actually excited and looking forward to it! Thank you!😊Also, you two make a great team!
this video helps me alot.. I'm still new in veganism. like 5 months and I'll be travelling for the first time as a vegan.. so I'll do need to pack my snacks and food with me because I'm only the vegan member of my family. they said its hard on me.. but I don't think so.. I just bring my own food while travelling. thank you guys for this hacks!
Great tips! Getting hungry watching all the delicious meals shown :) Btw: Some of the best meals I've had were at restaurants where I let the chef know I'm vegan & he or she made something up based on what fresh ingredients they had on hand.
Great tips guys! I will say you still have to be careful with sides. I have ordered bean and greens that came with bacon. Also vegetables smothered in butter. The wait staff sometimes don't understand when you ask about dairy or animal products in the food. I'm going to make your granola for a trip to NYC next week. 😉
We were in Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Roma, and Positano! We stayed in Airbnb's, because we love having our own kitchen and everything we need to make healthy food. Plus, they're usually more eclectic and unique than hotel rooms!
Not healthy, oil free or anything, just vegan for the animals, but the tips are great, thank you! A little life hack: in some countries they do add non vegan butter to sides, especially rice. So make sure to ask☺️
One point to make, I was departing from London with some tangerines and a few nuts that I did not finish on the plane, one I arrived at NYC all those things were confiscated because I had to declare them.
They should invent a name for vegan + gluten free + no processed food type of person. For airplanes you can get vegan, vegetarian asian, vegetarian arab, kolsch meal, gluten free. But every single meal will have something I can`t eat. Either a bread, lactose or meat. When you say you are vegan immediately there will be bread or noodles involved. In best case scenario you end up with processed food.
It depends on the airline though. As far as I know Lufthansa for example offers raw vegan meals, which would suit your needs best I think. I remember getting all kinds of fruit + a salad or something like that.
I have a question. I'm new to watching your videos. I understand that you are vegans for health reasons first secondly ethical reasons. How do we justify fishing? I've been pondering the stop myself. You said you go on a fishing trip to Canada. Please enlighten. I'm new to all of this.
The plant-based physicians and experts we’ve learned from have shown that refined oils are no different than refined sugar in the sense that they’ve been completely stripped of their fiber and other components that make them no longer Whole Foods. Oils are empty calories and instead we should be obtaining healthy fats from whole food sources like nuts, seeds, and avocado.👌
What about coconut oil? Guys. Well I am not leaving my oliva oil love my coconut oil and abocados 😍✌️✌️✌️love love your videos specifically the one you guys learning about (spruce o sprung) I am very interested. Take care ✌️💖
I've driven across the country a few times. PA to TX and UT to PA... In addition to snacks, we usually bring a good cooler and ice packs for things that need to stay cold (fruit, veggies, hummus, pre made wraps and sandwiches). I usually try to pick hotels near food options or grocery stores. I've found most have options you can microwave (frozen Amy's burritos, steam fresh veggies, cans of beans, sauces, etc). Also we've found it's helpful to bring reusable utensils and tupperware.
I'm so glad I ran across your video. I'm moving in about 2 weeks. My fiance and I decided that we don't want to eat out every meal during our travels. I am a vegetarian but I'm trying to eat more dairy and gluten free when I can since I have Ulcerative Colitis and diary and gluten are some of my triggers symptoms. My fiance still eat meat. So instead of buying unhealthy junk food from gas station all the time I was looking for more vegan travel foods that would be good for the car or hotel.

“The menu is just a suggestion.” Makes my waitress brain scream a bit, thinking of all the pushy picky eaters that could take that and run. But I’m always happy to accommodate allergies and vegans/vegetarians. And I still think it’s important to ask about that sort of thing, because that’s how we end up with menu items that are specifically vegan or those cool symbols on menus that mark vegan items. :)
We recommend checking out www.masteringdiabetes.org/ . They discuss the true cause of diabetes--it's not sugar, but actually fat that is causing the blood sugar issues. Fat "gums up the locks" so to speak, which inhibits sugars from exiting the bloodstream and getting into the cells where they need to be to provide them with energy! Fruit contains fiber, which sets it apart from refined sugars and refined foods like donuts, cupcakes, candy, etc. Fiber helps to slow the release of sugars into the bloodstream. We eat fruit all day every day with no problems, and know many fruitarians who do the same. Robby Barbaro @mindfuldiabeticrobby has Type 1 diabetes and eats a fruit-based diet. Check out his stuff, for sure! :)

Do you eat fish? Dusty mentioned a fishing trip so just wondering.
no we do not! ☺️👌
Where did you guys go while in Italy.. where did you stay in all those locations?
We were in Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Roma, and Positano! We stayed in Airbnb's, because we love having our own kitchen and everything we need to make healthy food. Plus, they're usually more eclectic and unique than hotel rooms!

We don't fish anymore, but if you at least throw them back it's less bad! hah! We haven't thought too hard about it since we don't anymore...
Lovelly people
Thank you!

I'm curious, why no Oil? I, personally love olive oil. It's great for my skin, hair, and overall body. Why do you guys seem to stray away from it?
The plant-based physicians and experts we’ve learned from have shown that refined oils are no different than refined sugar in the sense that they’ve been completely stripped of their fiber and other components that make them no longer Whole Foods. What about when you travel in a car for 2 days?
I've driven across the country a few times. PA to TX and UT to PA... But don’t noodles contain egg usually? Greetings from Austria
No just egg noodles! There are more without egg than there are with!

"vegan or plant-based"? What's the difference?
“The menu is just a suggestion.” Makes my waitress brain scream a bit, thinking of all the pushy picky eaters that could take that and run.
But I’m always happy to accommodate allergies and vegans/vegetarians.
And I still think it’s important to ask about that sort of thing, because that’s how we end up with menu items that are specifically vegan or those cool symbols on menus that mark vegan items. :)
Curious, how does one live a plant based lifestyle if levels fluctuate between being diabetic and then levels not! Fruit = sugars, carbs

If you're still really curious after looking up Erin's suggestion, give diabetes a search through medicalmedium.com.
Mandy Hockenberry also great advice!
