    Carpet pythons are amazing, everybody seems to go straight for the Jungles, but the family has so much more to offer. Bredli are beautiful and generally puppy dog friendly. Irian jayas stay a more manageable size. And coastals are arguably the most varied of them all. There are others, only less common in the hobby. But all of them make amazing pets.

    Carpet's are beautiful! For someone who is a bit squeamish around snakes, but still hellbent on getting one, what would you recomend as a first?
    Side note: Corns and Milksnakes give me shivers, too spiny, and way too wriggly.

    • @joe_phelan
      @joe_phelan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, just because they are bitey as babies. They are very simple to keep though. Maybe a ball python would work for you?

    Cool video bud, I've really been wanting to get back into the reptile hobby and carpets have always been a real fave of mine but i never had the pleasure of personally owning one.
    How're they to raise from birth?

      +Andreas Kolodziej they are awesome. You just need the means to keep them correctly

    • @andreaskolodziej80
      @andreaskolodziej80 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Port City Pythons Thanks for your answer! Yes, for me retics are number one snakes. They have the best pattern of all snakes I think. What do you mean, the costs or the space or the climatic conditions? I know, they need lot of space and it is not so easy to hold the temperature. But green tree pythons are not so easy to hold like ball pythons or constrictors. They are not for beginners. Retics are not for beginners too. I would start with constrictors I think and then I decide to keep retics or not. I have enough space for retics but I do not know their behavior.

    Why did you stop keeping and breeding ball pythons?

    • @joe_phelan
      @joe_phelan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like the feeding issues. They are too off and on when it comes to food. Also, about 1/4 of my original ball python collection had nidovirus. Which at the time was unknown and there's no way to cure it. I spent a lot of many on treatments and it was a pretty bad experience

    • @studlyruddly16

    Nice video, beautiful snakes, but I am not happy about cross breeding different subspecies. Diamond pythons and jungle carpets come from vastly different climatic environments. To suppose that interbreeding a tropical animal with a temperate/cold habitat animal, and thinking that the result will be halfway between them is, I think, naive! No way is the mixing of very different subspecies a matter of simple addition. You may be creating problems which you hadn't thought possible. Sorry to sound so negative - your snakes all look in great condition, and it's obvious that you care for them really well.

    You have amazing snakes i love all but i dont agree with ur words over snakes only tolerate without wanting out . Snakes does enjoy being out and they are not tame but they are social so they build bond and they r part of our families ofc u dont have to think like me . I have snake diary series with my boa but sure id like to have one carpet also but the way ur snakes respond tp u is because of ur way with them . They are not nurveous is bc u dont handle them so they are suprised . Amazing diamond

    • @joe_phelan
      @joe_phelan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Asi&Squeezy Love Diary thanks for the kind words! I respect your opinion but I disagree. I think it is reasonable to disagree on things like this because everyone has different views. We all have experience that we can draw on and form a perspective from there. So that's just my perspective. Also, keep in mind the carpets are adult males in the peak of breesing season. They behave differently other times of the year.

    • @asisqueezylovediary6474
      @asisqueezylovediary6474 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Port City Pythons that is all total nonsense but all people think different . I know someone who has 7 carpets and all 7 enjoy being out and very kind curious snakes .and i know guy who has 20 three boas all are extremely lovely . But yes if u call them ur pets u have to have time for them if u r breeder and make more snakes to sell is different story as i dont know ur situation i just saw this video and i felt sorry for the snakes but they are so beautiful . Im bit jalous of that diamond and three python waw

    • @joe_phelan
      @joe_phelan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Asi&Squeezy Love Diary it all depends on your goals. I want healthy and good looking snakes. I'd rather observe them rather hold them. That's all. My snakes are docile but they are animals with instincts not domesticated pets. I don't even breed pythons, I just enjoy keeping them.

    • @asisqueezylovediary6474
      @asisqueezylovediary6474 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Port City Pythons all animals coming from the wild so if u bought it just to look at it than nothing i cant say more . We humans took them from the wild to have them as pets . They dont wiggle their tale waiting u to come home dont make them less pets . They have like disslikes abd personalities . I hope at least u have made each one of them big nice enclosures as they live in . Bc for me their enclosure is nice but no animal should be in a jail all his life but i hope u have nice enclosures for them .
