He'll always be one of my favorite singer/songwriters. The 90s was one of the best times to be a country music fan and be a child and teen in.
Legend has it that he arrived in Nashville with a brown paper bag filled with cassette tapes of songs he'd written ... so many that it helped him yield hits four albums into his career.

Alan Jackson was/is the perfect country star/musician. Music always had traditional country elements, he wrote most of his hits, good morals, polite, respectful, never divorced. I'm sure he wasn't perfect - but, I've never heard anything bad about him. He's one of my all time favorites.

Chattahoochee... A perfect song accompanied by a legendary video... "A pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight Talking 'bout cars and dreaming 'bout women Never had a plan just a livin' for the minute" just makes me smile and feel good about life lived
I lost my uncle on 9/11. Alan's song "Where Were You" was the first country song I listened too. It helped with the healing process, as a lot of what was in the song is what I was feeling. Been a country fan ever since. Thanks for doing this video.
Me in 2006: “Hey how’d it go with Stacy last night” Clint: “I settled for a burger and a grape snow cone” The name have been changed to protect the innocent.
Both George Strait and Alan Jackson can be great! Alan Jackson’s music reminds me a lot of Brad Paisley’s. The range of having funny songs, anthems, songs that will warm your heart, and songs that will break your heart is just so rare.
ALLAN JACKSON IS MY MOST FAVOURITE GOSPEL AND COUNTRY MUSIC SINGER OF ALL TIME. George Strait is my second most favourite country singer and my most favourite COUNTRY SINGER and GOSPEL singer of back in the 1953 era was HANK WILLIAMS SR. George Jones is in there too. ALLAN JACKSON WAS BORN TO SING GOSPEL SONGS, GOD bless 🥰💙🙏OXOXOX OXOXOX OXOX OXOX

In 1989 I bought Music Row Printing and Alan Jackson was the first account I picked up on my own. I produced most of Alans Printing for the next 27 years. It was because of Alan's business that I had the funds to send my kids to private school. He impacted my life in a positive way. Thank you Alan
Alan Jackson was my first concert in 2002 (I was 12 or 13). I was mainly there for his opener, Martina McBride, but he blew me away. I was a fan before but I became a huge fan afterwards. Also, the concert was in New Jersey (20min drive from Manhattan) and when he sang "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning", it was so cathartic. A memory I'll never forget.
Will never forget The Choices CMA moment 👏🏻 as well as walking into a country music convention in NJ when country wasn’t considered “cool”…hearing Gone Country, and feeling it was actually cool to like country. I have never shied away from my pride of being a country fan ever again

To me, Alan Jackson is the best of what country music can be. He has songs that'll make you laugh, songs that will break your heart. He has the honky tonk and the ballads. His lyrics are so expressive. I still get a chill when I hear Midnight in Montgomery. Everyone loves Chattahoochie. I think some of my other favorites are Monday Morning Church (the imagery!), So You Don't Have to Love Me Anymore, Remember When, Where I Come From,...the list goes on and on. He's also the kind of artist whose songs grow MORE relatable the older you get and the more life you live.
i loved that one awards show when they told George Jones to cut his song short, so when Alan played his he stopped halfway through and started singing George's song choices
I remember when my daughter who is now 30 would sit in front of the TV watching country music videos. Once Alan Jackson was on she turned around and said "it looks like he's looking right at me". That's the charm of Alan. You feel like you know him or you should. He seems like someone we would hang out with.
Thanks Grady for highlighting Alan Jackson! As a kid who grew up on 90s country, AJ and Brooks & Dunn were my country music kings and I hope others appreciate him too! I literally went to the chattahoochee to sing Chattahoochee at one point in life, so the love is real.
This is the man, the Legend, who introduced me to country music, a genre that is not very popular in my country. I first heard the song "livin on love" when randomly opening youtube. That's when I was in high school around 2011. Greetings from indonesia 🇮🇩
Love Alan. Even being as respected as he is I still think he's underrated in a way. He's done more for the genre over the course of his career than almost anyone else. Would love to see a similar video on Clint Black, another favorite that never really gets credit for how good he was/is.
My husband and I have been married for 37yrs, with 4 kids, we grew up listening to alan, and our family song is Small Town Southern Man everything in pertains to our family except he had 5 kids in their family. We all absolutely love that song. Alan is a fantastic song writer and musician.
Jackson was in that class of new country that included Clint Black, Garth Brooks, Mark Chestnut, Randy Travis, and George Strait (along with many others). Lots and lots of performers that defined an era that brushed away the world of Urban Cowboyization of country music. It felt fresh and real and that I think is what makes performers like Jackson stand out.
Honestly “The Bluegrass Album” is one of my favorite albums of his. That album is what really got me into the Bluegrass genre. “Blue Ridge Mountain Song” is just so powerful and his voice really conveys the emotions of the song. Same with songs like “Blue Side of Heaven” and “Way Beyond the Blue”. And the other songs on the album are just so fun and pretty uncharacteristic of his regular stuff. I know it’s most if not all covers but I really love that album.
As someone who's not always the biggest Alan Jackson fan, I have to agree. I loved that album and it inspired to dip my toe into that scene more than I had to that point.
I've loved Alan Jackson since I was a kid, he was one of my Grandma's favorite artists. Listening to him brings back memories of car rides with her listening to her Alan Jackson CDs and singing along. I'm still singing along to those CDs in my car to this day :)

Thank you for mentioning his fashion sense. I always thought Alan always dressed well and had fun outfits and its not mentioned enough. That lifejacket is iconic
you cant pick the king with these 2 because they both hit the top for longevity, and they both bucked nashville polltics in there own way. hats off to both country heroes. and a big fat thank you to both allen and george!!!!!!!!
I grew up with Alan Jackson's music as a kid. My mom used to play country music radio all day. I had heard a lot of his songs while we used to play war or double solitaire with a deck of cards. Those were some of my favorite memories of her. So almost every song of his since the 80s and 90s has become my favorites. I still cry every time I hear 'where were you' on the radio or play it on my Spotify playlist.
OM Gosh... I've followed this thrill of a man since the 80's . Here in Ca, but am from Arkansas, Glen Glembell home boy country! Back when we had phone recorders. Alan's voice was in the background when you called my house. This man will never be replaced. He's the good guy , and a song writer... Just the most talented, humble beloved man. Live forever Alan... or as long as I live. Then we can listen to you at the foot of Jesus with that baratone voice of his. We love ya, my man... No one to compare!
Just the other day I was driving and Here in the Real World came on the radio. I remembered that it was Alan’s first big song (because I’m middle aged) and then I just marveled at what a great song it is, and how it stands the test of time. This video is on point. I’ll never forget watching the CMAs in 2001 and weeping the first time I heard Where Were You, and it too stands the test of time. I’m sure Alan would be cool with being co-King with George Strait. ♥️

I grew up right across the chattahooche from Alan, so when he talks about local stuff, like the way into the newnan dump in 'daddy let me drive' is stuff I could really connect to.
I am so sentimental for Alan Jackson. My absolute favorite song when I was a little kid was “Livin’ On Love”. I remember singing it all the time. I’ve always thought he’s underappreciated, so I had to watch this vid immediately!

The three artists that really made me fall in love with country music as a kid were Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, and Alan Jackson. Nice work on this one Grady!
5 O'clock Somewhere is one of the first songs I can remember hearing when I was a kid, Alan has always had this ability to perfectly mix silliness and fun with the sentimental and tragic. I can't speak highly enough about this guys music because it actually meant something emotionally, which I can't say for a lot of Nashville now
My youngest daughter is really petite and her “Theme” song is Little Bitty. She already recognizes the song at 11 mo and will start moving her body when we put it on. We sing to her on a daily basis, “It’s alright to be little bitty A little hometown or a big old city Might as well share, might as well smile Life goes on for a little bitty while”
I went to see Alan Jackson in Charlotte in 2019 and I can say that it was the coolest experience of my life. He told stories about his life and his songs throughout the whole concert. The atmosphere in that building when he played "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning" was absolutely incredible. It was probably the most powerful and emotional thing I have ever been apart of in my life. It gave me chills and I can honestly say it is something I will carry with me forever.
This video is going to sort of be a litmus test about how much interest there really is in stuff like this. You wouldn't really expect this to be the case, but typically when legends are covered here, the traffic does not often justify the amount of work it takes to research people with such extensive careers!
@@GradySmith well, I'm glad that you are willing to do it. I've followed your channel for a few years now and have started listening to a lot of the people you cover. I also enjoy hearing about the classics every now and again to reflect on the journey of country music.
My favorite is MERCURY BLUES - and must add America's longest line dance video presentation, GOOD TIME. I think MERCURY BLUES is a great example of his talents and entertaining personality shine like a star.
One of my favorite stories is how he got the lyrics for "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning" and decided to perform it. He is an absolute legend and one of my favorite singers ever. Thank you for a fantastic deep dive into his career!
I’m 25 years old now and Alan Jackson is the quintessential singer of my childhood music experience. He is probably the biggest reason that I love that real country sound today and am so picky about my country music now. I saw him play with George Strait at Cowboy Stadium in 2014 and it was incredible! This video was so nostalgic for me. Makes me think of driving to and from school and the grocery store and around town with my mom. Thank you for doing this!
I just moved to Newnan a few months ago and there’s a giant mural of his A Lot About Livin’ and A Little ‘Bout Love album cover painted on a building downtown. They’re definitely proud of their favorite son as they should be.
My first exposure to Alan Jackson was through a 9/11 tribute that had Where were you when the world stopped turning? playing in the background. I loved the voice and looked up more of his songs, and he quickly became one of my favorite country artists. I'd say my favorite song of his is Remember When, but it's a tough call; he has SO many good ones to pick from
I really appreciate this. Alan Jackson is my favorite country singer of all time. He's so simple but elegant in his songwriting and he's such a down-to-earth dude.
I've always loved Alan Jackson's ability to both tell a story and give me shivers with his soft voice, but whenever I think of him I'm always reminded of Reba introducing him for something calling him, "Our answer to Bob Dylan". To me, that's who he'll always be. An amazing poet and story teller.

I have listened to alan jackson for my whole life I will be 24 this year. My mom tells me stories about being in the car seat going somewhere and jamming out to alan jackson as a baby. I still listen to him to this day he is my favorite country music artist. I have been lucky enough to see him in concert 2 times now and I hope to see him as much as I can. I love his kind and humble personality. I also can't choose a favorite song I love them all.
Great video, Grady! One of my personal Alan Jackson favourites is Precious Memories where he covers a bunch of traditional worship songs. Beautiful arrangements and his voice suits the songs perfectly
My grandma had a major crush on Alan. He was "her boy"and would always sing along when he was on. Absolute legend and always brings a smile when I hear him on the radio.
Great video about Alan Jackson! He’s been one of very few traditional country bearers of present day. I would also like to add that when Lee Ann Womack’s debut album came out, he was so impressed that he bought multiple copies and gave them to family and friends. What a class act! He reminds me of Waylon in some ways.
Alan Jackson was my favorite country artist growing up (Born 1996) and one of the last "real" country artists before country turned into pop again. Favorite songs were Remember When and Drive. This video really brought back the nostalgia and gave me an even deeper appreciation of his music.
My grandpa was one of the biggest Alan Jackson fans I've ever seen, owned all his albums, would sing his songs while working, the whole 9. I can't help think of the old man whenever Jackson's music comes on and it fills me with joy.
Alan Jackson always tops my Spotify wrapped for the past like 5 years. I absolutely love his music. So pure, so wholesome, and so relatable - even Bologna. LOL. I've seen him twice in concert. Amazing live. Thanks for the video, Grady. I learned some new stuff!
I used to have a VHS tape that featured a few Alan Jackson videos, interviews and commercials he did back in the early 90's. I was struck by how down-to-earth he is, and comfortable he was with his band. I grew up with his music since I was a baby, and I watched his career evolve as I've grown up. I'm 25 now, and I always come back to Alan here and there and appreciate his music more as I get older. His music video for Mercury Blues is right up there with Dwight Yoakam's Fast As You for the coolest country music video ever in my opinion. Plus I think it's awesome that Alan was on an episode of Home Improvement! Thank you very much for this video Grady!
I've never been a fan of mullets and mustaches but something about Alan Jackson just works, and I love so many of his songs and that doesn't happen with a lot of artists...they might have songs here and there I like but SO MANY OF HIS SONGS SLAP
One of the biggest reasons I still love country music at 21 years old is because when I was 7 and got my first iPod, the first album I bought to put on it was one of Alan Jackson’s gospel albums. I used to belt those songs around the house like I was in the recording booth with him. He has been one of the country artists I’ve listened to the longest, and undoubtedly one of the artists that started my love for country music.
Alan Jackson is definitely one of my favorite artists of all time. His music has been in my life since my earliest memories. My uncle who passed away in 2014 loved his music so I always think of him every time I hear one of Alan’s songs. My aunt also loves his music so it makes his music more special. I also have so many memories of dancing with my husband to so many of his songs at multiple weddings and parties. I also tear up every single time I hear Drive and Where were you when the world stopped turning. His music is definitely legendary and will always hold a special place in my life.
Alan Jackson is one of those entertainers who pulls emotions out of you when you least expect it, he’s a genuinely amazing Christian gentleman who is just real and I absolutely love him.

Just a super nice guy. Wife surprised me with tickets to his show. We got there hours early and was going to check in the hotel. Riding around the place of the concert we see a really nice motorhome. I said what the heck and knocked on the door. Alan Jackson answered. He talked with us for a while and he is just a really good guy.
He was preforming at one of the country awards ceremonies when I was a kid and my grandma was like, "does he even own jeans without holes?" and my mom and sister both went, "who cares?!" We just loved his music, we didn't care about holes in his jeans, my sister and I had holes in ours too

My dad probably never listened to a second of country music in his life unless you count the Eagles. That being said, I can’t listen to “Drive (for Daddy Gene) without thinking about him and shedding a tear. More than any country artist I can think of, Alan Jackson wrote and sang songs that expressed these very human moments and emotions in ways that felt both relatable and unique. I think the way Luke Combs writes songs now very much reminds me of the way Alan Jackson wrote.

I lost my uncle on 9/11. Alan's song "Where Were You" was the first country song I listened too. It helped with the healing process, as a lot of what was in the song is what I was feeling. Been a country fan ever since. Thanks for doing this video.
Me in 2006: “Hey how’d it go with Stacy last night”
Clint: “I settled for a burger and a grape snow cone”
The name have been changed to protect the innocent.
"Where I come from it's cornbread and chicken," is both deliciously relatable and relatably delicious
George Strait is my second most favourite country singer and my most favourite COUNTRY
SINGER and GOSPEL singer of back in the 1953 era was HANK WILLIAMS SR. George Jones is in there too. ALLAN JACKSON WAS BORN TO SING GOSPEL SONGS, GOD bless 🥰💙🙏OXOXOX OXOXOX OXOX OXOX
We really share same idea, he has been my favorite country artist from collage days... can we have a better conversation about same interest

Brad paisley?? I don’t see it.
In 1989 I bought Music Row Printing and Alan Jackson was the first account I picked up on my own. I produced most of Alans Printing for the next 27 years. It was because of Alan's business that I had the funds to send my kids to private school. He impacted my life in a positive way. Thank you Alan
until I got my first of his cds when I was like 6, I absolutely believed he was a duo act named Al & Jackson from hearing it on the radio
Lol
i blame solo artist brookson dunn for my confusion
This is so funny to me haha. So cute
@@connorwelling9609 these two comments are the hardest I've laughed in a week.
That's hilarious
Alan Jackson is a cool guy. He always seemed like a dad. The dad that you wish you had, who just happens to sing.

All great enjoyable songs words singer as great band
i loved that one awards show when they told George Jones to cut his song short, so when Alan played his he stopped halfway through and started singing George's song choices
Alan is The GOAT!! Definitely my favorite artist and is just a bad ass! I got to see him in concert which was awesome!!
The first time I heard Alan Jackson was when my dad played Little Bitty when I was 5 and I've loved him ever since.
And your picture is the Foo Fighters logo...which just makes you cooler. You sir, have good taste.
ya i was a lil older and it was drive
“Good time”
I remember when my daughter who is now 30 would sit in front of the TV watching country music videos.
You can thank Garth Brooks for that about Clint 🙄🙄🙄
I agree. Clint Black is definitely under-appreciated.
How so? Did fatty Garth brooks sabotage his career?
Alan always seemed like a guy you could meet and have a beer with. He really had this down to earth feel. Definitely deserves to be among the greats.
Our country radio still plays alan jackson regularly. Our small town still love him!!

I always loved that Alan was consistent in his music and writing and he wrote all on his own. That's how it's done!
Some are more uniquely written than others I love If love were a river
you cant pick the king with these 2 because they both hit the top for longevity, and they both bucked nashville polltics in there own way. hats off to both country heroes. and a big fat thank you to both allen and george!!!!!!!!

Had the privilege to see him at a county fair. Three songs in came downpour, humble enough to play in the rain for the fans.
The three artists that really made me fall in love with country music as a kid were Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, and Alan Jackson. Nice work on this one Grady!
Same
For me it was Alan Jackson, Rodney Atkins, George jones.
Drive for Daddy Gene has to be my favorite. You can hear the heart in every word.
We sing to her on a daily basis,
“It’s alright to be little bitty
A little hometown or a big old city
Might as well share, might as well smile
Life goes on for a little bitty while”
I went to see Alan Jackson in Charlotte in 2019 and I can say that it was the coolest experience of my life.
He's Simply The Best 🎶🥰🎶
The trumpet player in my jazz band forced me to play Alan Jackson in his country band...loved it
Alan is probably my favorite singer just based on songs I know. He’s also the one who can almost always make me cry by hitting me in the nostalgia.
He is a true legend. Sweet country music where have you gone.
Grady, I LOVE when you cover some of the legends. I'd like to see more of it! You're doing great!

Even though I am 30 years late, he is my favorite music artist right now, been listening to country music since the pandemic began.
Alan is my king 🤴 ❤️ 💙
I just moved to Newnan a few months ago and there’s a giant mural of his A Lot About Livin’ and A Little ‘Bout Love album cover painted on a building downtown. They’re definitely proud of their favorite son as they should be.
Chasin That Neon Rainbow has been my favorite song since before I can remember. My grandma said every time it came on I would dance in my crib
My first exposure to Alan Jackson was through a 9/11 tribute that had Where were you when the world stopped turning? playing in the background. I loved the voice and looked up more of his songs, and he quickly became one of my favorite country artists. I'd say my favorite song of his is Remember When, but it's a tough call; he has SO many good ones to pick from
I love that Glen Campbell helped him get his start. He knew talent.
Nothin’ wrong with Glen Campbell! We was amazing, great person with lots of talent. Knew what he was doing!
Alan is the very best Country has to offer, in my opinion! A true CLASS ACT in every sense of the word!

I also can't choose a favorite song I love them all.
probably got 'em all memorized by now 😂
Yes I do!!!
I'm from Austria and a big Country Fan and Alan Jackson is my favourite. I just love all the songs, they have something special about them.
Great video, Grady! One of my personal Alan Jackson favourites is Precious Memories where he covers a bunch of traditional worship songs. Beautiful arrangements and his voice suits the songs perfectly
Loved "Precious Moments" album!
Yeah very caring man family man
Drive and Remember When just hit hard and only the way an Alan Jackson song can. An absolute legend. Fantastic video!
I LOVE Alan Jackson. I love older country like this
I used to have a VHS tape that featured a few Alan Jackson videos, interviews and commercials he did back in the early 90's.
Some of my favourite songs from him are Small Town Southern Man, Wanted, Remember When, and Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning

Alan's my favorite of all time
Just a super nice guy.

I absolutely adore Alan Jackson. He's the perfect mix of 80s country and bluegrass
I'm so happy you mentioned Remember When. Probably (IMO) Alan Jackson's best song ever ❤❤❤
He also played that Awards Show with no strings on his guitar. What a legend!
