Change the subtitles to normal English, not CC! It’s way better translated
All Korean men are required to enlist in the military before the age of 30 (depending on certain situations) so it makes total sense that they have gun handling skills.
Unfortunately conscientious objectors have to go to prison for at least a year. The military doesn’t give them another task to do that doesn’t cause death. I have many friends in prison now because of this.
Damn, that's terrible. Imagine having to give up on either giving on your dream for a bit or go to jail for a year.

Guess what you know is outdated. From 2019, conscientious objectors are allowed to take alternative service. They now are deployed to correction facilities and work there for 3 years. Korean men usually serve for 2 years, that may be why the gov’t decided to have 3 years. I myself am a Korean man who served at ROK air force for 2 years with the US 7th air force. It is hard to tell what we receive in return for our service is big and it is true that we have been oppressing those objectors for a long time. But considering that it has been only about 30 years that South Korea has become rich and democratic country, (+Technically at war against North Korea - Korean War is only at ceasefire) we may not be too late for our attempt to improve what soldiers get from their sacrifice and how objectors are treated. Sorry that I’ve added some contents that aren’t really related to your comment. I just wanted you to know what happened in South Korea in 2019!

One of the most well-trained militaries in the world at that too.
Shooting a pistol and semi-automatic rifle is pretty basic knowledge for Korean men.

That's one of the things fans of BTS freak out about, if/when the members have to leave to attend the compulsory military training.
(Incidentally, I think when they say, "Korean Age" I think it's referring to some Asian countries believe your 'birthday' is when you were conceived, not when you actually 'birthed' from your Mother, so maybe at 17 & 3 months 'regular age'?)
Tug of war was my fav game in the show for the sheer hype of it lol that cliffhanger never gets old. And I love how "angel" stuck to Eric whenever Ali's on screen.

You know, with all the talk of squid games, it's surprising no one's talked about how bad ass it would be to be a kid and now have this tug of war strategy for school/camp.
I suggested the leaning thing/wrapping the rope around your shoulder and also the step forward to trick the other team during a school event, got scolded for "cheating" and disqualified...
There is a generation of kids who are about to be really good at tug of war

Korea has mandatory military service for at least 2 years so they would have all been trained there at some point. Including all of the male players

The thing about the soldiers knowing how to use the guns: South Korean men have to do 2 years manditory military service. I just assumed that they learned how to shoot guns there.

@@Aagggyy it used to be 30 something months, and then I served about 21 months back in the 2010s, I think the kids who are about 10 years younger than me serve about 18 months.
I'm probably wrong so if I am please feel free to correct me.
If I remember correctly, they don't have to join the Korean Army, they also have the option to join the US military (or maybe that's only for the rich).
When I was in Korea back in the 90s there were young guys (they called them katusas) and if I remember correctly they didn't handle any weapons, do any field training, or anything more physically demanding than morning exercises. They pretty much just did office work.
The ending of this episode is my favourite of any show to watch reactors react to. Everyone just goes nuts. I was the same way, screaming NOOOO YOU’RE GONNA LEAVE ME LIKE THAT!?!?
But, it’s Netflix. You can literally just watch the next episode if you want 😅🤷🏻♂️

Hi Rick. All Korean men know how to shoot guns. There's 2 years mandatory military service for all Korean males aged 19~37 with several years of regular reservist training after discharge.
I swear every reaction channel I've watched has different subtitles for Squid Game.
There’s 2 different English translations. The one Netflix adds and the ones that actual translators wrote
They're watching the CC subtitles which are for the hearing impaired. They just transcribe the dubbed version and describe the noises in the background: completely inaccurate and shitty version of the dialogue

Great reaction guys. Yes there was a lot going on in this episode and it was so terrible and cruel to end it on such a cliffhanger to the point where we jumped off the sofa and screamed "NOOOOOO, sorry, I've got to see the next episode ..." and went straight to Ep5. Eric the old man no. 001 didn't say you don't need strength, but said "...Tug-of-War needs MORE THAN just raw strength".
My daughter noticed all the way back in Ep1 that out of the (pink) soldiers/guards, the squares are at the top, they are the only ones who are allowed to speak, the triangles are in the middle, they hold the guns/are strapped and the circles are at the bottom, they do all the menial tasks like removing the dead bodies and working in the kitchen as you saw them melting the sugar for the honeycomb game. The shape(s) in this order, circle, triangle, square ○◁□ therefore, the original children's game is named as such because the shape of the game board drawn on the ground resembles that of a squid. 🦑 Now remember, our detective picked up that square mask from the soldier that was killed by the 'Front Man' at the end of Ep3 of the honeycomb/shapes game and has been swapping between the two playing two different roles to see if he can find out more information on what happened to his brother. My theory at the beginning of Ep1 was 100% correct in Ep9. No. 28 was very careful not to look up at the camera with his mask off, he always faced forward whilst eating and under the covers whilst putting notes into his phone.
Yep, as you rightly pointed out no. 101 'Jang Deok-su' killing that man who tried to grab the bottle of water from him, set a precedent that it was OK to do so because he faced no consequences or repercussions for it. The fighting got out of hand because initially it was the thugs/gangster (no.101's) group attacking another and the girl who snitched/grassed on him/them for taking their food and drink, but I guess everyone got scared and some thought no consequences so it's a free for all and the strobe lighting was cruel, just enough to see the horrors. The old man's pleas were heard and they put a stop to it immediately. No. 212 'Han Mi-nyeo' was trying to get the gangster no. 101 'Deok-su' to let her into his team as she was looking for protection by using him/stroking his ego, hence why she helped save his life in the honeycomb game with the lighter - she didn't have to, then after he's used her too he later embarrassed and shamed her in front of everyone.

My memory of it isnt very clear but one time my entire mother's side of the family (My grandma had 12 children) played tug o war men vs women, and the women completely destroyed the men. And most of them are from small towns so they have some of that macho attitude, the women did not let it go for the entire day hahaha

the show says you have to survive all 6 games, not win all 6 games. this is a slight intricacy in the script that suggests more than one player CAN win should they all survive.
this makes later episodes.....heartbreaking.

You guys are watching with the wrong subtitles. You currently have it on "Closed Caption" subtitles, which just transcribes the dubbed version. You can change it to "English" subtitles which are infinitely better and more accurate. The dubbed version and the CC subtitles are absolute trash: you're basically watching a different show
Theyre watching with the regular subtitles but its uploaded to youtube with the cc version
They had mentioned this already, the subtitles they are watching are the actual English subtitles. The subtitles we see in the reaction is different, because they cannot add the original English subtitles

They scanned the cop at the honeycomb game because he wasn't supposed to be there, at least not yet. The circles were to enter when there were bodies to be taken away so he got scanned so the square knew which number he was. To reprimand him, I'm guessing, and to know specifically which number he was.
And then it was implied at the end of the game, that the square guy who was killed by the frontman was the same guy who scanned the cop, so he was not reprimanded, or worse.

I just want to point out that the subtitles for the crazy lady saying 'old man' is wrong. The word she uses towards the gangster is '오빠' (oppa) which is a word girls use when addressing a man who is older than them, usually in a romantic way. Also when they are addressing the old man they aren't just saying 'hey old man' haha. They use an honorific word that is better translated as 'sir'. I think these subtitles are the botched ones lol
Shouldn't it be transcribed as "babe" in the version they're watching? I thought someone said that they're watching the version with the other subtitles, but used this version for the TH-cam footage.
