- Hello everyone! In this video i talk about todays patch that came out for Them's Fightin Herds, as well as some unfortunate news for the game. I hope you enjoy the video and have a happy Thanksgiving!
#fgc #fightinggames #themsfightinherds #online #mane6 #newcharacter
We need to pull a “Geometry Dash” with this game and keep it alive for like 6 years until Mane6 decides to revive
Most definitely and I'm gonna do my best to help!
@@GammaBrace same here as well
@@GammaBraceI started this game a week ago and i am with you
I don't think this was a Mane6 issue. I think it was a publisher issue.
@@ShadowboltChoco I kinda realized that after a few days
The moment I heard "bad news" I was dreading those inevitable words "the game will no longer receive updates". Its sad to hear because Tfh is one of my favorite fighting games simply because of how unique it is and how much love and effort was poured into it by it's developers. I really hope big things for Mane6
I hope they listen to the fans and continue the story mode because they can’t just break their promises and leave the story mode unfinished like this. 😢
Unfortunately, Indiegogo doesn’t have anything to stop devs from not delivering on promises.
It’s why even Modus didn’t force them to finish it (and besides, Modus is their publisher, and they basically have final say over everything).
@@Dr.Oofers This can NOT be happening! They can’t just leave the story mode unfinished! 😭
@@ultramaster7893 There’s the “book of lore” I believe that Lauren wrote herself. It has a whole synopsis/script on how the game’s story would go down. A youtuber named “Dogman13” is planning on doing a fandub of the first chapter of the game’s story mode (and likely move on to the other chapters in the book of lore).
Really hate to see this game's potential cut short. But no matter what the team gets up to next, it'll be absolutely BONKERS in terms of quality. And they'll be walking into it with all this experience under their belts. Hope the IP stands the test of time and we get to see the full story they wanted to tell someday in some way.
Me: "Oh today is such a lovely day"
TFH: Story mode will not be finished
Me: 😐
Same bro same
Trolled
I have never cried this hard at a game announcement before
I definitely cried when Knockout City got shut down for a silly Hot Wheels game 🥲🥲
Solution idea #1: Modus sells (or gives) back the IP to Mane6, who works on the game in their free time as a passion project while holding down other "day jobs" to support themselves. Work on the game is slow, but at least it happens in a way that they creatively direct.
Solution idea #2: After production ceases with 6.0, all money from sales of the game and DLC are set aside and not used for anything else except to be saved up. If and when the game ever nets enough money in sales to support the production of its completion, Modus gets members from Mane6 back, or whoever it takes, to finish the game according to Lauren's original script.
Damn. They sold the IP to get funds for development? This sounds like a death sentence. Companies aren't known for giving IPs back to their owners after all... Well, I would be overjoyed if they got it back and this could make a comeback.
@@hoppa_2184 The problem is that there *aren't* enough funds. If Mane6 got the IP back, they would still need to make money to live and eat somehow. And they sold to Modus because they thought the publisher could help them finish with more manpower. When the DLC and game itself didn't sell as well as Modus hoped, they canned it. I took a screenshot of something Aaron Stavely said in the Discord server today: cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/855075236622106664/1181001428307808367/Aarons_statement_on_12-3-23.png
As much as I'm sad about cancellation I think it was something to be expected, I remember logging in a few weeks back and seeing only 1 server active with 6 people on it, out of curiosity for such a small player number I checked steam charts, 7 people online. That server and me. Truly saddening developers didn't get the opportunity to finish the story mode.
Prediction: Modus didn't like the sales numbers and pulled the plug on them.
They should've stayed independent.
@@vgmaster9Where would the money and resources come from to continue development if they stayed independent, though? Seems rough either way
@@ScaredEz From crowdfunders
@@ScaredEzI understand that they're indie n so they don't have infinite cash, but the money shoulda been there from the crowdfunding since thats what was promised since then, and the fact that if I remember correctly around the Modus acquisition they said they were almost done with chapter 2 but wanted to release the whole story together which never happend...
@@ScaredEzguess toby fox, scott cawthawn and every other independent game person is secretly broke and we just don't know it -_-
Personally.. They should have a youtube tie in.
Or more specifically.. An indie animated series that ties into the game.
After all it's style is based on MLP FIM. It would be a great way to advertise the game's world too.
Though could be possible the devs might be ending development for it, so they can make a NEW game set in the same world.
Like an RPG based in the world for example.
I’ll be absolutely honest.
The game suffered from a general lack of content.
It’s fine if they needed more time for the story-mode, but they didn’t bother to add anything else to hold over players. why do you think the game is so dead population wise *especially* after each content update? Because there is so little added, and so little to do, that the game has little to keep players occupied.
Doesn’t help that they constantly pushed for the competitive scene, yet tried to make the game more accessible and kept failing (you either make your game casual and let the competitive scene rise naturally, or you go full competitive; impossible to do both, and difficult for the latter). They should’ve bit the bullet and let players customize matches for the sake of replayability and fun.
Lastly, the devs not being able to take criticism, and throwing hissy fits didn’t help their cause and likely resulted in people refunding or boycotting the game’s dlc. Them hiding the EoS announcement at the end of a DLC post doesn’t make them look much better either.
Edit: Reminder that what you have right now, for the game as it is, is considered *years* worth of work…. take that into account.
Any game developer that is completely unwilling to take criticism will never go far in the industry.
9 days later, and the plot thickens. I noticed an odd trend after Mane6 ditched their initial publisher, Humble Bundle, in 2021 (or 2020). They were.. rather vague about what happened. They never stated why, and I don’t think anyone ever went into speculation.
So they abandoned their initial publisher for some reason, likely couldn’t go into detail about it for legal reasons, and went hunting for a new publisher. Now, I don’t know what was holding them back from making a patreon or minor cosmetic packs for funding (I mean, they could legit just say, “Funding is tight, as a result, progress on the game will slow down until we secure enough funding to pick it up full speed”). I get that backers on indiegogo supported the game, but it’s understandable that the game took longer to make (and acquiring the Z-Engine was pricey apparently).
In comes Modus who acquires them (and not enter a “partnership” like I had initially believed). They stated in their acquisition announcement that Modus was basically the perfect publisher, saying that the resources they gave would help finish story mode, the rest of the game in general, and make console ports. The acquisition announcement made it seem pretty positive in general.
However, here’s what I noticed, all updates/patch notes after Modus’s acquisition never had a signature. Not from anyone on the dev team (or even Modus). 3.0 comes out along with level 3 supers, and that’s when the game’s balancing starts becoming wonky, nothing terrible, but people started to take notice. Apparently 3.0/4.0 introduced a bug that didn’t reward you the shadow palettes (I vividly remember this) for “Apex Predator”, and wasn’t fixed until 5.0, and introduced a season pass for DLC fighters.
What’s important about all this? A couple of things:
1. We cannot tell who writes the patch notes since they no longer have signatures at the bottom. For all we know it could be someone from Modus and not Mane6.
2. Simple patches and bug fixes took months to implement.
3. Game just struggled to find proper balancing (while you *can* play as everyone, there are objectively better fighters, such as Texas and Velvet; for gods sake, Texas’s range and damage is ridiculous and when he first came out, he had “armored moves” *when the game had no armor breaking moves.* Reminder that it took months for each update).
It was very clear that Modus was rather restrictive. Now, the devs are locked behind NDAs, and therefore cannot speak much about the game and what’s going on behind the scenes. All we have is what we know, and speculation:
1. Did Modus lie to Mane6 about the resources they’d give? It would seem that with the extra manpower that things like like patches and balance changes would happen regularly rather than every couple months, and when Mane6 was with Humble Bundle, they actually came out at a *decent pace.* So, I wonder if Mane6 (or Aaron if he manages the studio) willingly signed the deal without being careful, or realized they got duped afterward. Heck, given that Modus is their publisher, and therefore has final say over everything, what if Modus is the reason simple bug fixes and patches take so long (alongside console publishers having to approve each update). Would explain why it took until the end of this year (2023) for *armor breaking moves* to be added.
2. Did Mane6 get acquired at a bad time? If we assume the promises made in the acquisition announcement to be (initially) true, then.. what happened? Did something happen internally with Modus, financially or management wise? Hell, what if it’s still going, leaving many devs in the dark, and the EoS announcement is just Mane6 fearing the worst.
3. Did Modus just misunderstand the player base? Seems like all new content (as little as it is), balance changes, and general focus is on Multiplayer after Modus took over. Again, since Modus is the publisher, what if they misunderstood the player base, and forced Mane6 to focus on multiplayer exclusively.
4. Fight…? Is Mane6 currently fighting, or simply sabotaging their game due to infighting. It’s dumb, but it makes you question why they took forever to add armor breaking moves, and why some fighters get weird changes (like velvet now dealing 30% damage against blocks and the odd changes to juggle decay). Granted, there’s rumors that the QA team is just biased, and cherry-picks feedback and hands *that* over to the main combat designer. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if it came out that these changes were due to in-fighting with Mane6. Heck, given the devs can’t handle criticism (only know of Aaron making a scene from time to time), maybe infighting has led to them being irritable.
5. Sequel/Future Revival? Given how… corporate the delay+EoS announcement was, not even saying “Sorry”, and leaving it ambiguous as to the future of the IP as a whole. It’s either a hint that a sequel is coming (Z-engine/design troubles?); turmoil is going on behind the scenes with the IP or Modus, forcing the devs to cease development after DLC fighter 4 until it settles down so they can pick it back up, or the devs plan on restructuring. Given that Modus holds the rights and may have been behind the game’s cancellation, it’s possible the IP will be shelved and join the alleged graveyard of IPs Modus has.
Not trying to disagree here but considering nothing bad has happened with Super Animal Royale (SAR) another game I play published by Modus but made by a different studio, then again though, it is Modus's most popular published game so that could be why? I wouldn't be surprised though if that's why? Putting on a lot of focus on a game that earns them more money and has a bigger player base that gets updates almost every month vs a indie fighting game. SAR is an indie game as well but is extremely popular and has a huge player base in multiple regions unlike TFH.
@@silverwolflee6978 Yeah, I’d say SAR still has active development due to its popularity. I am quite saddened that Mane6 is getting the short end of the stick, especially not being given the ability to at least finish their story-mode.
i recently got into the game and it suck so much to hear that the development will end :[ ill still play it but i wish we got to see the whole story
Same! I was really looking forward to playing more of the story. I hope you'll still stick around and play!
id still keep playing and trying to get better, hope we can play together one of these day!!
This game must be kept alive through the community!
I agree with you I will do my best to keep TFH alive and thanks to update I can get back to streaming past a hour instead of almost half hour without crashing
Yeah I read the notes at work and it really hurts about the story mode. It's not a definite end, but a part of me worries that the cease will end up that way later. Least they still said they would do patches for the game.
Very true. I think the fact that we'll still get patches means theres a bit of hope.
Apparently nearly everyone got fired so there’s no gaurentee 😔
First Melty Blood Type Lumina, then Skullgirls, and now Them's Fightin' Herds. This year has been absolutely terrible for the fighting games I can actually play.
i suck at this game but i just freaking love it and need it to be alive!
At least we're still getting two more characters and a few more stages. Breaks my heart though as TFH was legit my favorite technical fighter I always came back to.
It can’t be! No no no! They can’t just finish the game without completing the story mode! The story mode was doing great so far, they can’t just give up on it like that! 😭
It started as a MLP Fan-Game, Lauren Faust came in, TFH was born, get into Console, give new characters, Level 3 Super... And end up getting no update.
As a people from outside the herd, I prefer the roster being 7 characters. Thus give them focus on something else.
I have wonder what happened to TFH. Thank for lighting this up.
This game failed because the publisher wanted this gane to be main stream. It didnt and they just canned it. This gane rely to much on the mlp fan base and it screwed it.
😓 My God, I wanted to at least see the Story Mode to the end, I hope the Creators Change Their Mind, But for that to happen we must Motivate them in some way!
This isn't a "developers lost interest and abandoned the project" situation. This is a "the devs were screwed over by higher ups, and they're not able to work on the game even if they want to" situation.
There's not going to be any way to motivate the devs since this was never their decision to begin with. That's completely on Maximum Games, and they've decided to buckle down on the whole "greedy corporation" shtick.
My favorite fighter! Same here, I will continue to play. The characters are so full of life! I just finished Chapter 1. The first time I finished arcade mode, I smiled from ear to ear at the names I saw for some of the voice actors and actresses. So much love went into this. Nothing gold can stay.
Why be done with the game after season 1 DLC? I mean there's a feeling there's going to be a season 2 DLC and more story chapters.
*Thems Fightin Herds Story mode will not be finished*
Fanfic Authors: NOW THIS LOOKS LIEK A JOB FOR ME!
I might come up with story ideas I will abandon my story idea to work on ideas for Them Fightin Herds
True it's in the fans hands now!
@@GammaBrace let's keep Them Fightin Herds and Fœnum alive and let it live on !!!!!!
Look on the bright side, the roster will be complete when it is all said and done.
I hope your smoke alarm gets some content updates with a new battery patch.
Que mal!!! :( , este juego es demasiado bonito , me duele saber wue el modo historia estará inconcluso
Don't let this great game die 😢
I can't help but feel a bit bittersweet about this.
I always wanted another longma character as a DLC.
YESSSSSSSSS, but also noooooooooooooooooooo
Smoke alarm batteries.
Is there a way to hide the hud? Like a mod or messing with ini files on PC version? Im not planning to go online just casual play.
I feel bad for anyone who plays this 😂
Maybe a new ip or sequel? Either that or modus really is axeing mane6
I don't think it'd be a sequel tbh there's still so much that could've been done with this game
@@GammaBraceTo be absolutely fair, a sequel would allow a complete rework for the game. Maybe the engine was limiting? Who knows.
@@GammaBrace Maybe a spiritual successor with a similar world, but without the MLP G4 character archetypes.
Immediately removed the game from my Steam library, safe to say that like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, all of the PS4 discs of this game (and the Nintendo Switch cartridges in a way) pretty much will be used as interactive drink coasters.
I deleted my game after hearing the news.
