High Speed Trains at Ebbsfleet International! 16/09/14

  • If High Speed Trains are your game, you're hard pressed to beat Ebbsfleet International. The station was built and opened to provide this area of South East England with a parkway station to both London and the Continent, and with the construction of a new housing estate around the station the numbers of passengers using this station are expected to increase dramatically.
Today the station is served frequently by Southeastern owned Class 395 'Javelin' sets that work into the International station with trains down High Speed One to Margate and Dover Priory, as well as services to Faversham on the Domestic lines that climb away to the east of HS1.
The station is also served by Eurostar owned Class 373's, with several services calling there each day. However, more spectacular are the Eurostars that don't stop, but instead blast through the station on their way to and from the Channel Tunnel at speeds of nearly 190mph.
Also seen is the newly liveried Class 373 set, a livery that is intended to replace the very tired looking 1994 livery that the Eurostar sets were originally outshopped in, and does bear some resemblance to the former GNER livery that once adorned the Regional Eurostar sets that worked out of London King's Cross.
    Enjoy!

Much as I enjoy travelling on these high speed trains, I still miss the old clickety-clack of wheels on rail gaps.

Great video ! Love the sound the eurostars make when travelling at speed. When you're on board the trains they are so smooth and quiet you don't really appreciate you are travelling so fast, until you start passing vehicles using the motorway, then you know !!

Another belting view of these superb units. The old Eurostar unusual sound so much more dramatic than the e320. Must visit there before the older units have all gone.

Hi there - thanks for a nice video. About the speed - unless I am mistaken the speed limit is 230 km/h from Medway through Ebbsfleet and Stratford to London so the maximum for any train you show here is about 145 mph. You have to go a few miles further into Kent, in the direction of Ashford, to see the Eurostars at close to 300 km/h (186 mph). I have this information from the commentary of an official Eurostar cab ride blu-ray, which makes great watching on a big-screen TV! PS: at full 300 km/h speed, a Eurostar train 394m long takes not more than 4.8 seconds to pass any given point.

Hard to believe the 373s are 20+ years old already.

HS2 trains should've had a stop here and at Dover, via Straford International, one every hour. HS2 in its current form is a bit of a missed opportunity to link up the south east with the West Midlands and the North West.

Nice selection there. It's difficult to find good spots to film from on HS1, but at least here you get a few stoppers as well.

The only other places I can think of are further in Kent, but they would require either driving or catching the regular lines :)

Such a noise I have to say makes me wish I could visit such areas of these High Speed Electric lines. I'm going to make every effort to see these new Hitachi locomotives that are due to replace Class 43's on such services like London Paddington to Temple Meads though.
    Just got to know:
    1) How long were you filming all these trains?
    2) What was the average time of silence between trains passing and stopping?
