The usual assumption was that the people spending money were probably like you and found the same things funny. Its also just a “pinball” mentality thing. Most pinball tables are filled with in jokes and many of the MK team got their start doing pinball for Williams or Bally.

People say that Football games aren’t as fun and over the top as they used to be. But they’re crazy. Madden games today are doing crazy over the top stuff you would never find in football games of the past like…charging $20 for a jersey.

This game was NFL Blitz, Pit Fighter, and NBA Jam put into a blender. It was fun in the arcades.
