@@lavigne4520 Hi Lavigne, this was at the Seattle Pinball show many years ago. Someone had hooked up the oscilloscope to a circuit board they had made using the old drawings anyone can find online. It was fun!
You're looking at the very first video game ever. No technicalities about it. My knowledge is limited, but I think I heard somewhere that it was used to help learn missile trajectories and such, and was used as an attraction for the longest time.
I don't know how long it takes on an analog computer but I guess the programming is done in hours and the fine tuning will take sevrral hours so perhaps 2 days.
+The Highlander me too Wouter, but then again I kinda consider A. S. Douglas'es Naughts & Crosses a "video" game too so I may not be the best authority
There's actually an emulation of this now online Fred. I did a follow up video a couple of years ago and you can play a whole bunch of these early proto video games.
@@Agustín350z Samuel is right, just because it's primary function was to be played as a game, it doesn't then mean it was the first game made, it's about the technical checklist of what makes a game. Check out Ahoy! His has a very detailed video determining the first game.
+My mom needs a dictionary interesting, I've never heard of that one before ... is it like A.s.Douglas's Naughts and Crosses? Or like 1947's cathode-ray tube amusement device? so many of these could be considered the first
I would love to play it , video games have evolved , now they're just like movies and shows with stories and beautiful graphics
it's very basic Naief but admittedly more complicated than Pong, it was a great privileged to play
Down the Rabbit Hole the history of video games is amazing
Must have been awesome to actually see this in the flesh!
+lactobacillusprime it was indeed Mark, definitely a piece of video gaming history
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 how were you able to play it

@@DowntheRabbitHole0 I am not Avril Lavigne because I’m a guy
@@lavigne4520 that's good to know
that console has a huge historical value
I know right? How amazing to play it half a century later!
Down the Rabbit Hole you are a lucky man

Yup you're right Mitchell, Willy Higgenbotham used this to entertain visitors to his lab back in the 50's! Incredible!
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 Wonder if he's looking at the industry he birthed from whatever afterlife that exists. He must be proud.
I love how he hooked up the controller and the screen in 2 hours, it takes days for someone to make such games
You mean the people who set up this demo? Or Willy Higgenbotham back in the 50's? Either way, darn impressive!
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 back in the 50's
@@MettoMinecraft very true

It has a CRT display and it uses (relay) logic so yes it technically is a video game.
still wish I could get that completed board ..... although .... then I would need an oscilloscope ($$$)
Anytime electronics are used to move anything on the screen using a controller, it's a video game to me.
+The Highlander me too Wouter, but then again I kinda consider A. S. Douglas'es Naughts & Crosses a "video" game too so I may not be the best authority
Now I’m part of this newer generation but despite that I love the 90s and 50s style, and I would absolutely love to play this (I know nobody asked)
I count myself lucky I got the chance to experience this piece of gaming history.
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 yeah you are quite lucky for that, I still play my dads game boy though, and I love it. I find it quite enjoyable.
Very cool, it seems like things like this always show up when you least expect it.
+radarcannon exactly, and I was surprised no one e showed any interest in playing this important game in history
Down the Rabbit Hole sadly most probably didn't know what it is.
you know, human are genius!!!
That is very true, a smart species indeed.
Din Ding we all are
so chill
Very cool, only have seen it on photos so far!
+VectrexRoli me too until I saw and played it at the show .... someone needs to sell these and I need an oscilloscope pronto!
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 i just designed a circuit to play tennis for two myself. i just sent the first proto gerber out if you want one let me know

So, console games was there before PC games? 😮
Pretty much 😀
This game was made in 1952.
Ahh excellent, I was unsure about the actual date, thanks for letting me know and thanks for watching!
No problem.
Such a classic!!!!!
Wow i never knowed this game existed
I was hoping to get the hardware myself one day although oscilloscopes aren't cheap
Its like a old soviet radio
LOL too true
I need this at my home
Same here ... well, okay I would need an oscilloscope as well but the desire for both is definitely there
Vladimir Putin playing Tennis for Two? amazing!
In Russia, Tennis for Two PLAYS YOU
Amazing!!!!!!!!
lol
so...were you able to buy it?
It looked like it was just there for attendees to enjoy, didn't look like it was actually for sale unfortunately
How were you able to play this game at home?

Please copy paste that game on my usb drive
me next!
Not the first video game, but certainly an early one. Pretty cool!
It's considered the first one because it's the first one meant to be played, it didn't have other function

i will give you credits of course ^^
Absolutely! Go for it! 😀
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 Thank you so much ^^ i appreciate it

Unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope or I definitely would have.
There is no playing tennis for two, just talking along the video
very true, I do tend to ramble on a bit, don't I?
Is the original console/game?
Hi Megaman, this is a recreation of the first video game yes
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 And where can i find this recreation?

Actually, the first video game was pong.
Except this predated Pong by over 10 years.
I guess it all depends on how you define "video"
