      Like the great artist Meatloaf once sang: "Remember everything that I told you, And I'm telling you again that it's true, You're never alone, 'cause you can put on the [head]phones, and let the drummer tell your heart what to do." Music is LIFE, the better the music, the better the life. The more powerful the music, the more powerful the listener.

    The guitarist songwriter Anton Kabanen formed this band when he was kicked out from his previous band Battle Beast. The reason was because he didn't let others write any songs. So yes, there was some drama behind that move and that is also the reason why his new band name is very similar because he got kicked out of the band he considered his own. Kabanen has ability to write very catchy songs and uses a lot of 80's style effects in his songs. Battle Beast has a female singer who is very talented also, you should check Black Ninja from them. I love both of these bands, especially older Battle Beast with Kabanen is great.

    • @FirstIsa
      @FirstIsa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Odd I would have assumed given the inspiration for most of their lyrics that the band name was a reference to one of the monikers that Guy's get's over the course of Berserk.
      I mean Zod the Immortal was pretty much a direct pull from the manga/anime, and music video for from hell with love used a near carbon copy of Guts with long hair instead of the usual short spikes.

    • @JackM.
      @JackM. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@FirstIsa Kabanen is a huge fan of Berserk and a lot of his songs are about that since the Battle Beast days. Not sure what you mean is odd, I just meant he wanted to keep the Beast name in some form. Battle Beast and Beast in Black names are both nod to Berserk.

      @metalwolf717 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude in my band we kind of drop song-ish compositions and improve them over time between the "composers"...if we had a single composer with this understanding of making catchy songs i would mind giving him more creative control

    Wow you made perfect sense, and what you said at the beginning resonated so much with my experience...I (a male) studied singing for ten years and this is basically what my natural approach to singing was, this sound was natural for me, and was told not to pursue it because it was ugly and unappealing to the public. Spent frustrating years trying to sound a way that was very unnatural to me, I was tired at the end of every song for all the things I had to remember shaping my mouth, dropping the larinx as hard as I could, ecc. "maybe you just sounded bad", yes I also didn't have a good ear, my pitch wasn't always on point...I'm not saying I was destined to become a great singer, I think I was decent, but that wasn't fun anymore.

Now I listen to them all the time and search for all reactions to them, watching people’s faces as they hear Floor for the first time. Like you said, it is so rare to hear men utilize this type of singing and vocal range and I was just blown away when I found this song. Even now, after having listened to this song for who knows how many times, I still get goosebumps from Yannis's voice.
    That being said, I do see someone mentioned this artist already, but there is a cover artist called Dan Vasc who does a pretty amazing cover of this song and hits a similar register. I would also check out other covers of his because I would be interested in your take on the range of his voice as I believe he tries to cover all aspects and push himself in that way. Particularly his cover of Nessun Dorma, considering your background in opera singing.

    Elvann, you like Floor (and yes, she's present in this "song"), you like 80's music, so you have to like (or gonna like) these TOP LINEUP OF MANY MUSICAL INTRUMENTS/SINGERS: The Source is the 9th studio album from Ayreon, a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen, released on April 28, 2017. *_The Day That The World Breaks Down_* is a song that features all 11 (well known (9 male, 2 female)) main guest singers [James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Tommy Karevik (Kamelot, Seventh Wonder), Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me) , Simone Simons (Epica), Nils K. Rue (Pagan's Mind), Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Mike Mills (Toehider), Russell Allen (Symphony X), Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus), Floor Jansen (Nightwish)] and is taken from that album. Arjen himself is telling (in subtitles) who the singers are and which instruments are used and by what standards.

    I already wrote this somewhere on YT, but when I first heard this song without seeing the video I thought a woman was singing some of the parts, you know maybe they had a guest... but then I found out it was all Jannis... and my jaw dropped open :D and when I heard more of their songs, I totally fell in love with his singing :)

    Growing up on Iron Maiden I'm no stranger to male singers hitting high notes, but even considering that as well the fact I listen to a lot of power metal, hearing the stuff Yannis (here), Christian Eriksson (Former Twilight Force) and Tommy Johansson (Majestica) can do with their voices is definitely special to me. It seems to me you don't hear many men doing it in metal so I'd like to share a few great examples of men doing it in metal.
    More Yannis: Crazy Mad insane, Moonlight Rendezvous, Sweet True Lies,
    Christian Eriksson (Twilight Force): Twilight Horizon, Flight of the Sapphire Dragon, Power of Ancient Force, Fall of the Eternal Winter
    Tommy Johansson (Majestica+Others): Dragonfly, Ghost of Marley (Majestica), Heroes of the World (Symphony of Tragedy) Lay All Your Love on Me (Abba cover, ReinXeed (Majestica former band name)),
    Cam Pipes (3 Inches of Blood): Deadly Sinners, Premonition of Pain, Revenge is a Vulture
    Michael Kiske (Helloween): Eagle Fly Free, Dr Stein, I Want Out
    Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian) Nightfall, Mirror Mirror, Time Stands Still at the Iron Hill, Curse My Name, Skalds and Shadows

    I really like your thoughts on males singing, as someone who likes metal I generally feel underwhelmed by listening to singers in others genres. In metal it can go from really high pitch clean singing (helloween, queensryche) to low pitch gutturals (any opeth, thy art is murder), high pitch with very intense distortion (blind guardian, judas priest) sometimes singers can even go from one to another like tatiana from jinjer

    Michael Kiske & Kai Hansen (both ex-Helloween)

    Close, from what I was taught in music theory. A countertenor uses falsetto which is a tone of the headvoice register where you basically don't support the note or barely support it. This gives the note a more airy sound. One of the masters of it was Klaus Nomi. Now, a countertenor might fully support a note yet not as much as using falsetto over fully supported head voice. There are two similar voice types known as the male soprano and a leggiero tenor, and these two are more likely to support the notes fully in head voice. Now, to be consider either a leggiero or a male soprano, you'd have to be able to hit an F5 or higher using passaggio. Now, this is kinda rare and you're more likely to run into a countertenor than either of those. I think another name for a male soprano is a sopranist. Yannis is Greek, btw.

    Hi Evann..love all of your truly heartfelt presentations..you say it as it is without any pre judgement....i myself am a big follower of Nightwish but must confess i was also a big fan of Kamelot..another symphonic metal band who back then had a Finnish lead singer by the name of Roy Khan.....if you have time i would recommend that you give a reaction to a live video album " One cold winters night " 2006 in Oslo..it also features Simone Simons of Epica singing with him on one track " The Haunting"....his falsetto is quite something....if you haven't heard him before just give him a try you may be pleasantly supprised.....he's a natural just like Floor. P.S Elizabeth 1 and 2 is just on of many great tracks.

    It's super surprising to me to hear you say that it's not totally uncommon for men to hit such high registers. I know very little about singing or music and meanwhile it's your specialty, so I'll certainly take your word for it, but I never would have expected it's even remotely common to be able to hit those kinds of notes with a male voice. Singing is something I am interested in learning how to do, but I don't think I could ever be a countertenor like Yannis (by the way, thanks for that vocab word!) since my voice is a little deeper, perhaps baritone. The idea that it's not out of the question for me to be able to at least get closer to the higher notes than I would have thought is heartening, though. Thank you for the video!

    The singer, Yannis Papadopoulos, has a homonymous TH-cam channel, where he explores all kinds of covers, mostly from well-known metal bands. As mentioned in another message he did a cover of Ghost Love Score (th-cam.com/video/nfZxu1aQzp8/w-d-xo.html), which in itself is already quite impressive for a male singer to try. Itshould be a prime candidate for you to react to. On his channel you'll also find more covers that are worth listening to, e.g. a cover of the Kamelot song "The Haunting" (th-cam.com/video/O6VwazU2pcQ/w-d-xo.html) together with Vicky Psarakis ("The Agonist" singer). The other songs he recorded with Beast in Black are all worth a try, too.

    Beast in Black is a Finish Power Metal (or wikipedia said Arena Rock since their songs has thick Anthem Rock style of 80s) band. The founder, the guitarist Anton Kabanen was former guitaris of Battle Beast. Yanni Papadopoulos, the vocalist is Greek, he was recruited coz his TH-cam vocal cover channel. They have 2 albums so far, both were gathered quite a lot of fans. Beast in Black opened for Nightwish during Vehicle of Spirit tour, hence Yanni Papadopoulos obtained the right to cover some Nightwish songs in his channel. The most famous cover lately that you, Elvann, must react to is his cover of Ghost Love Score.

    I love this song. I recently got divorced from my greatest love, because I was becoming introverted and seemingly cold to her due to some issues I had. I thought It was something I should fix myself (like a "man"), thus I didn't tell her how I was feeling during a long period. I didn't see how this affected her and after a while we could unfortunately not resolve the problem back to how it used to be. We saved the friendship, but lost the love.
    So this song gets me every time. Still.
