Vocal Coach REACTS - Yannis Papadopoulos 'Ghost Love Score' (Nightwish Cover)

  • Well this is interesting. This voice moves into Dimash territory with metal growls and vocal grit. Yannis Papadopoulos - vocal style ranges from female-like falsetto to metalcore screams and from powerful belts to pop-ish melismas. Most famous for his piercing high notes in his current band, but also possesses a warm tone to his lower range, which is not utilized well enough, especially in his current band.

I saw him live in Leyendas del Rock (Spain) for the first time. I has no idea about Beast in Black, but since my plan was to attend 99.9% of the concerts, the day before I did a marathon through Spotify in order to gain some knowledge about the groups I knew nothing about.
Initially they were going to play in the small scenario, but since the group that was assigned to the big one couldn't attend Leyendas, Yannis and his crew were moved to the grand scenario.
It was one of the best lives we had in all four days, top 3 no doubt. Numerous times were they ovationed between songs, and I can say for a fact that Yannis voice sounds even better in live. Its outstanding how clean his voice is, and the sheer power it.

Impressive how Yannis takes cues both from the original and the latter live Wacken versions, as he is inviting comparison to both Floor and Tarja, No guts, no glory, I guess... Pulls it off, too!!! It has the feel of Tarja's GLS, the grit and the added end runs from Floor's... and works great!

I loved hearing your expectation and then your reaction when you heard his actual voice. And as always, nice to hear your professional take on it.
If you would consider another request, I would offer up King Diamond's "Sleepless Nights" live at the Fillmore. Another exceptional and unique voice. If you do, just say it's a recommendation from Don. Sounds much less grim than Necrosanct. ;)

So you mentioned head voice vs falsetto. I am floored at the skill of Yannis here, he's just so skilled with his voice. Someone you haven't reacted to that I can see is Marko Saaresto from Poets of the Fall. He has what some people refer to as a falsetto chest voice(I don't know enough about singing to know if that's a real thing or not) but he has some of the greatest vocals of singers alive today. Their Alexander Theatre Sessions videos really highlight his voice with very normal instruments and not much production. Poets of the Fall - Lift (Alexander Theatre Sessions / Episode 8) is what I would suggest but they have a huge catalog of work to pick from but there are quite a few well done live performances (where you can clearly tell they are live) and he sounds almost identical to the studio versions of the songs.

Oh this was sweet, haha. What was that you said about karaoke track? Spot on! The so-so guitar solo, but especially the oboe thingy added on top of "Scent of the sea before the waking of the world etc.." was really distracting i.m.o.
Also felt your little struggle there, wading patiently through the 'symphonic side' interlude. But then the glorious wake up call with the part you'd almost forgot about. It already seems that GLS is taking on this 'Phantom of the Opera' vibe re: the anticipation of Floor's incredible finale (that she freestyled herself into, until it became the 'official' finale of GLS).
Great heartfelt reaction, enjoyed it. Cheers from Amsterdam

Seeing title - Yannis Papadopoulos 'Ghost Love Score' (Nightwish Cover) - and being totally sure Yannis excels in this challenge even before hearing this performance.

The man is simple incredible. I went for Beast in Black and Windrose because they were playing at a Gloryhammer gig in Notts. I went for the starters then had a blast with the bands.

i have to correct all these folks on the internet who say floor was on this song because ghost love score was originaly singing by tarja turunen she was also there from the beginning of nightwish and she is a opera singer so this is why all the old nightwish songs are more opera like.

If you haven't already found his stuff, I recommend you check out Dan Vasc here on TH-cam too! He does amazing covers (mostly metal, some acoustic stuff that sounds just as good) and I'd love to see your thoughts on his work! His Nightwish covers are especially brilliant.

Great voice. He would be perfect in a metal band. Does Floor has to worry? No, I don't think so.

I'm not sure if you have done it yet but have you heard the new track from Falling In Reverse - I'm not a vampire (revamped). If you liked The Drug in Me is Reimagined from them you'll most likely enjoy this one. Another great job from Ronnie taking one of his old songs and improving it.

Hey hey, just subscribed! Great content from you, loved your videos on Jonathan Young too. Beast in Black is only as amazing as it is thanks to Yannis, his singing is AMAZING. But speaking of other great musicians, too...
Jonathan Young just released an album with entirely original tracks, and I suggest you take a look at one or two of them, because Starship Velociraptor (yes really) is one of the best albums I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I recommend Storm The Castle and Jetpack Race for the great contrast in styles.
