I just picked up my first Stenback bass, a 4-string. I say "first" because I already see that I will need to get a 5-string as well. He is just being humble when he says in the video that his basses are darn close to perfection. I consider myself an extreme perfectionist, and if there is something separating this bass from perfection, I don't know what it is. Not only is it beautiful, and has magnificent tone, but after the first 2 minutes playing it, it felt like I had been playing it as my only bass for 40 years - it is so completely comfortable and effortless to play. You don't even have to think about trying to play, you just hear something in your head and it comes out of the bass. It is magical. And the pot values make it very easy to dial in any flavor of tone, there is a huge variety of tones available for just two volumes and a tone control - lots of subtle variations with slight movements of any of the three knobs. I usually prefer active basses, but in this case, there is absolutely no need for a preamp.
Perfection, well darn close.

Your basses are extraordinary…they seem to allow a musician to not fight with the instrument to get the tones he hears in his head.
Hands down best basses I ever played!
Tom is a fantastic guy and he has built the best basses I have ever seen/felt/played.
