This has to be the single most helpful video on the internet ever. The second fix was mine but all of these were so straight to the point yet thoroughly explained in what each method was doing and why it could work. I cannot thank you enough for this video. All four of my usb ports weren't working and you basically just saved my entire laptop. Thank you!

So grateful to you . I'm an author working to a deadline, and two chapters away from the end of a novel. This morning I found the ports on my laptop weren't responding. The very first tip in this vid solved the problem (an update had failed). I couldn't be less techically adept, so you've saved me a trip to find someone to fix it - and, as I'm abroad at the moment, that would have been a nightmare. So, thanks!

THANK YOU SO MUCH !! My USB ports on the back of my all in one weren't working for a while but I still have 2 on the side. But then one of those stopped working this morning and it was extremely frustrating. Windows was already up to date so I changed the USB power settings, disabled USB selective suspend, as well as enable fast start up since my computer had it toggled off. I reset my computer and put my USB back into the side port and it worked! I tried the USB ports on the back as well, one recognized it but another still didn't, which may have been the port that was messed up a couple years ago when it first stopped working. I was going to uninstall and reinstall drivers if your other fixes didn't work but I don't need to, for now at least! Saving this video to my favorite and subbing your channel. Simple, easy to follow instructions that actually helped and saved me a trip to the local computer store. Cheers man!

I had a chepish USB-C multihub on my c940 that was bulletproof for well over a year, then the comms went 'phooooff' in an electrical storm, stripped it and found one of the surface mounted caps has gone to eHeaven. First replacement was a similar no name brand, with HDMI and Ethernet etc, this has been nothing but headaches, while the HDMI remained up the ethernet would continually drop with an error 43 every 3-5 minutes. Following your suggestion to turn off ALL power control on all drivers for all the USB related devices eventually fixed it. It has now been stable for many hours - kudos to you sir!

I tried everything on my own to troubleshoot the USB port issue I was having. I recently added a multi-port adapter so I could use 4 USB devices on a single port on my PC. Worked fine with printer, Jabra headset, and miscellaneous USB charging devices. Then it died on me after a windows update ran. After going through your first 3 options, I rebooted and it's working again! Thanks for the expert advice. Clear and to the point.

Liked your video post, Sir. Helped me a lot. I did the first two fixes (plugged LAN cable into an alternate device, and unchecked power mgmt for usb roots 2x). Together they worked for my case (even though humorously I lost track of which of those two fixes if applied in isolation would have been the winning solution, out of my own rushing to fix). With much appreciation. May you and your kin gain glory and receive richly.

#4 worked for me. I tried 1, 2, 3 & 5 first. Finally I decided to try #4 and PRESTO my USB ports are working like they should. This laptop has 2 USB ports. The one closest to me I call USB port 1 and the other one I call USB port 2. USB port 1 would charge these bluetooth headphones I use with this laptop but that was all it would do. When I would plug the dongle of my cordless mouse in it, the mouse wouldn't do anything. Now USB port 1 and USB port 2 are working like they're supposed to. Thank you for making this video. I came here because I had thought for several weeks that the USB-A port on the back of my Dell laptop wasn't working, although the one on the side was working. Then I finally turned around my laptop and looked at it from the back, so I could SEE (not just feel) what I was doing. I realized I had been plugging my USB-A plug into the Ethernet RJ45 port. It had never occurred to me in the 30 years of USB history that an RJ45 jack could mimic the feel of a USB-A receptacle to USB-A plug.

UPDATE:: Option #4 worked for a few days then back to USB lockup... went through all options again and checked. Then sat down with partner to see what changed since we gave computer to Grandpa-- was it maybe virus, bot, new software, etc. Tunes out that partner had installed Avast Antivirus software as he had several personal subscriptions ( I do not have it on my machines) Did a quick Google search and did discover that other individuals had the same problem. So we uninstalled Avast Antivirus. It has been 3 weeks of daily use and no longer problem with the USB locking up. So the Avast software was the problem. Hope this helps others that may continue to have USB lockup problems-- consider your antivirus software.
Hi!! Option #4 worked for us!! An HP desktop that was originally Win 7 machine....at least 10 years old... updated to Win 10 so Grandpa could have basic computer for Internet, email, Skype, etc...since his older computer was becoming unreliable... was crabby updating to Win 10 2 years ago but then settled down.... couple of weeks ago Grandpa was complaining of mouse/keyboard randomly locking up... finally was able to experience issue at our house... I was thinking it was mouse wearing out.. for some reason some recent update messed up the USB Hub drivers... Unstalled according your your excellent instructions, computer self-reinstalled drivers and so far working great!! Thanks so much for your wonderful video and how clearly you explain everything. Made it so easy to go through each of the steps and how to check everything.

My Dell Optiplex 990 has/had 10 usb ports which seemed to stop working singly or in groups. First my mouse stopped having any effect, then my key board - both usbs. When I started to look at your tutorials, the monitor went black and stayed there. The monitor connector is HDMI and the PC connector is Display Port. They are connected by an adaptor marked 4K. The mouse, monitor (HDMI), and keyboard all work on my Chromebook. I haven’t figured out how to test the monitor adapter yet. Regarding the version of Windows 10, I think I have done at least one update but don’t know when or what its designation was. Has my PC just converted itself to a large paperweight with lots of memory, SDD drive, and TB hard drive?

After uninstalling the USB Root and your keyboard and mouse doesn't work anymore, the next thing you can do is to reset or re-start your machine. Long press the power button to turn off, or reset button for desktop.

Thank you so much for your help/video! You 4th method worked for me. My MSI Laptop USB port would not immediately recognized any device I would plug in. I would have to wait close 5 minutes for the computer to pickup the plugged in USB devices. Once I followed your steps 1 to 4 and the uninstall and re-install of the USB devices worked for me! Thank you
