Why does the catcher have to tag Gomez with his glove to get him out? Couldn't the catcher just stay still after the catch and Gomez would be out the moment he touch home plate?

That’s because the runners are forced to try to advance, since there’s nowhere to go back to. A simple step on the bag gets both runners out. But since the bases were empty, Gomez could go back to the previous base since nobody was there. He MUST get tagged out, since they can’t force him out by throwing to the catcher. He has to tag him
Correct. There was no runner behind him so the catcher needed to touch him with the ball for an out. The reason is because since 3rd base wasn't occupied by a runner, in theory the runner could have turned around and gone back to 3rd, which is why the catcher's foot on the plate means nothing

Also, if you combine the info provided from the overhead angle and the first base angle, it was basically a tie and his palm was on the ground though his fingers may have been in the air a little.
