I remember being in a book store, and I saw this girl that was going buy a book I liked. I lead her to other books I liked and she took me up on my suggestions.
I’ve heard that Eliza and her monsters is similar to radio silence? Although I can’t say so myself as I have only read Radio Silence. Wintergirls will always be one of my favourite books. I absolutely loved paperweight too. They’re always books I go back to when I feel myself relapsing and I need that reminder to keep recovering.
Historical fiction with fantasy is the mashup I never knew I needed :')) You should read The Golem and the Jinni and The Winternight Trilogy (The Bear and the Nightingale, The Girl in the Tower, The Winter of the Witch), they're my favourites off of this genre!! Especially The Winter of the Witch, I think you'll love it a lot!!
I’m a new viewer so I don’t know if you have read it but I’m currently mid-way through a book trilogy I think you may like called His Fair Assassin. It’s been compared to the graceling series which I know you like. Each book is from a different characters perspective but each of those characters are in all three books which I think is the same with graceling. It’s set in 15th century France and although it’s fiction the books actually uses real historical events that occurred in this time frame. The first book is focused on politics but also has an aspect of mystery as the protagonist has to work out who the traitor to her duchess is (also romance), whereas the second book is more focused on the protagonist’s personal story (which is a crazy one as it’s made her the way she is.) It shows why she’s that way and you wonder how she coped with a life like that so long-- she ran away from that life but three years later was sent back) I haven’t read the third one yet so I can’t say much about it apart from it’s from the perspective of another character from the other books and I think is about how she reacts to finding out that she is being forced to do something she doesn’t want to do because she’s been training for something else for years. Sorry that this is so long but I really think you’ll like this series.
Thought I should also mention the reason they all know each other is because they have all lived in the same convent for the last few years. (They worship the god of death and are all his daughters who are trained to be assassins to do his bidding)

It follows Chava and Ahmad, a Golem and Jinni respectively as they find themselves immigrants to New York City. The book explores the Jewish and Syrian immigrant communities during this time in a magnificent way.
I have already read The Weight Of Feathers and really loved it! I couldn't stop thinking about that book ever since.. The Night Circus has been waiting for me to start reading it for too long!
Another beautiful book about eating disorders is The Girls at 17 Swann Street. It’s incredible. It’s an adult novel, but I think people who read primarily YA would still enjoy it.

I'd definitely recommend The Toy Makers by Robert Dinsdale for The Night Circus. The atmosphere is very similar, but since you also love historical fantasy that talks about what's going on in that time period, it fits well with that too. It deals with PTSD though (setting is from before WW1 until after WW2 in London in a magical toy shop).

This also works the other way too. If I didn’t particularly enjoy wintergirls, then I won’t like paperweight. (I only chose these books bc I happened to be at that part of the video lol)
I loved Eliza and Her Monsters and I recently bought Fangirl. I love your recommendation videos when you base them on other series and shows. I loved your Avatar one and I got a lot of books for my TBR for that. 😜
Have you read Unbearable Lightness by Portia De Rossi? It's a memoir about her eating disorders and it's powerful and beautiful. I haven't read any fiction on the topic so I can't say how it compares to Paperweight or Winter Girls. But I have a feeling you'll like it.
not a YA but re: historic fantasy fiction, I can rec Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. it's a little bit more written like an actual history book with footnotes with additional histories for the (pseudo-high? more like it builds on established lore found in the British Isles) fantasy aspect of it, but basically it's a What If Wizards Helped Win The Napoleonic Wars kind of story. it's a bit on the dry and long-winded side but it's basically old school wizardry and keeping a low profile/not interfering (Mr. Norrell) vs new generation who wants to use magic for "good"/involving magic with the troubles of the day (Jonathan Strange) kind of back and forth. the troubles being, of course... Napoleon taking over Europe. Not sure if that's your cup of tea, but it's an interesting book for sure
This... this may just be the review that convinced me to try and read Eliza and her Monsters again. Fangirl has a special part in my heart. I didn't like Eliza before and dnf it but I'll try again. :)
Eliza and her Monsters is so dear to me! I wrote a speech piece in it for a review category and I ended up getting to the highest level in my state's speech competition. I absolutely fell in love with it and you are the reason!! thank you for blessing me with this book!

I did request Last magician though, probably against my better judgement/book-intuition because it had the higher rating of the two, so Ill give it a try! - but may DNF lol :)
