Some fun Wreckfest facts: - Suspensions are fully simulated - The ROMU engine does calculate tire temperature, but it's not implemented in game for anything - Armor does not add weight to the specific area you add it to (putting a 160kg bumper on the front does not weigh the front down, for example) - all additional weight is added as center of gravity mass - Armor doesn't actually make a specific area stronger, it just re-enforces the deformation sphere for the vehicle and adds weight for impact against other vehicles. - A fully armored Roadcutter can full speed corner-bomb (straight on t-bone in a corner into the outside wall) another vehicle and take nearly no damage - Walls, particularly cement ones, are sticky to prevent wall riding abuse to set lap times.
- Walls, particularly cement ones, are sticky to prevent wall riding abuse to set lap times. OH! That's why! It's so annoying when grind against a wall and suddenly stick and lose momentum.
Huge fan of the game, the destruction and deformation of the vehicles is visceral and immensely satisfying. There is no other racer around with a better damage system. You can even tweak it with multiple damage modes. On PS5 the performance is excellent and there are still numerous updates being done on the game. Easy recommendation for every fan of car mayhem.
You should definitely take a look at Beamng drive. It's more of a sandbox focus instead of multiplayer (which you need to mod) but it's physics and damage system arguably outclasses even wreckfest, you might enjoy it.
A real gem this game. The driving physics are authentic feeling and fun. You can have real intense close races, and the game handles it well since it really has collisions in mind. Top work from the devs and it makes me happy to see as a OG fan of the Flatout series
Agreed, it's an excellent racer with just right physics which feel like a perfect balance of realism and arcade. Just wish there was a mod to give us the old school Flatout driver ejection!
I believe FlatOut needs to be reborn. idc what companny, but as long as a company that has good intentions (cough flatout 3) can actually try to compete with bugbears wreckfest, we would all have better games and make a bigger puish between these 2 iconic IPS. Flatout devs would have to overtake wreckfest and wreckfest would have to over take flatout, by making newer games and pushing for that better game. the fact wreckfest got mainly no compettitors is literally like rockstar game's gta 5.

A well deserved game getting some welcome recognition. 1 of my favorite games ever. Loved the soft mod damage system, the chaos that ensues with the AI and in multiplayer, the realistic driving style, and the vehicles, which includes some absolutely ridiculous ones, which are fun to race. Taking about you couch, outhouse, and lawn mower (which is raced in reality too), just to name a few
I wish the gameplay was much more arcade-y, or had an option for that. I don't like adjusting the handling on my cars manually and having the heavy/weighty feeling of a sim racer. I liked FlatOut because it felt like Need for Speed but with cool destruction physics.
I thought the PS4 could manage the CB AA on it's own on a system level? Probably just wasn't implemented properly here. Unfortunate, but I'll probably just get this for PS5.
Surprised by the Switch version here. I hope you guys do a video on "Gas Guzzlers Extreme" next. Loved that game on PC, would love to have it portable, but all the screenshots on the eShop are promotional renders. That's also a proprietary engine, I believe, and judging by other TH-cam videos, the game seems like it might be targeting 60fps on the Switch, which is wild.
If they decided to make the resolution 4k on Series X then maybe resolution isn't the bottlekneck, going off the last gen PRO and X consoles they aren't strangers to having different resolutions on competing platforms.
I may be wrong but the Series S/X version seems a bit odd - I think it's a "back compat plus" type release running Xbox One code with some Series X enhancements rather than a full native Series X port. If you got in to "file info" on Wreckfest it'll show as "Durango" rather than "Scarlett". Weirdly the next gen version was sold as DLC rather than a seperate install like most titles and requires you to install the original approx 20GB game and then another 20GB next gen DLC.. it's almost like you're installing the game twice.. I do think if they released an actual native Series X version it could reduce the file size and probably sort the performance glitches.. would be interesting to hear thoughts on this...
When I installed the Xbox X series upgrade the framerate dipped. I made sure it wasn't installing to my rusty platters (4GB ext drive), and it wasn't. After several races where it would obviously dip, I uninstalled the series X version and 4K + buttery smoothness returned, but it messed up my saves. A small sacrifice for 60fps once again.
The X/S symbol is a little misleading from what I've seen - some games with it are actual native Series X/S titles, others (the assassin's creed games prior to Valhalla and various others) are still Xbox one code based but with some settings tweaked to make use of the Series S/X hardware - the back compat plus type releases. You can tell by going into the game install info from my games and apps and then select "file info" - if it's native Series s/x it'll say Scarlett in there. If not, it'll say Durango - back compat plus titles will usually also say something like "gen9aware". Wreckfest seems to fall into the latter camp so it's unclear what the next gen dlc does. I'm guessing it's essentially a big texture pack so the game has resolution and frame rate set to 4k/60 when running on series X then if you install the next gen pack it also installs some graphics/texture upgrades which cause the performance hits in places but that's just a guess.. I wish they'd scrap this method and do a native Series X version.. seems to be what they did for Ps5 so seems odd they've gone this route on Xbox. Guess maybe they thought it'd be less work and give similar benefits just using the extra hardware oomph with the Xbox one code...
I find it interesting that the Xbox Series X version is the one with the most frame-rate issues given its power. Given that the PS5 version is running at the same resolution I wonder if this is simply an issue of not having enough dev time to work on that version given that they had to do two sku's instead of just the one for the PS5 or if the PS5's basic design architecture of fewer cores running at higher frequency simply worked better with their engine when pushing to 4K? We saw issues similar to this in early PS5/XBSX games but really haven't for a long time now since Microsoft seemingly updated their dev toolkit software.
the thing is you are thinking power is TFLOPs, so you think series x is the powerful console, but PS5 was the best engineered console, not focusing only on "power" but on removing the bottlenecks to make the available power usable
@@statesman6379 the game has been out for what, a year now, you’d expect this update you mention to have happened by now. Perhaps this is just a game that suits the ps5 better for whatever reason, much higher clock speeds perhaps. Anyhow, it’s good to see it rock solid on PS5, nice.
This game is so great, I just wish it had some split screen multiplayer. That's its biggest weakness to my eyes. And wow that looks great for a game on switch !
Extremely fun with a Logitech g923 wheel (on PS5) 😁 some of my favourite arcade-style handling I've tried yet! Great feedback too! This switch port still looks great in comparison. You can't go wrong really
@Jimbo Bimbo The server blades are now Series Xs. Each Series X server can emulate 4 Series S consoles, so it streams the Series S version at 1080p at 60fps.
I run the game on the Deck at 60 FPS and it looks a hell of a lot better than the Switch port. I'm a bit dissapointed that you didn't compare the two to each other.
I think its because the Deck is a PC in itself and is not on a controlled enviroment, which means its less "tailored". Also, the Switch is a more budget console with lower specs.
PS: My old xbox one which is not that powerful as the one s has much more fps drops => Would be cool if u include that old console too because its a bit of a performance difference which makes sometimes a much better result 🥺
Great work as always but please start including Steam Deck in your videos. I'm surprised at how little steam deck content DF have done. It's especially relevant for a game like this that is ideal for a Steam Deck vs Switch comparison.
Some fun Wreckfest facts:

The level of destruction is amazing !!
I got this on ps plus last year for ps5. I played it while I was the most drunk I’ve ever been and it was amazing
The Portal port on switch is also outstanding
Haha you fanboy 🤣
Ps5 is more Powerful and it's a known fact, look up Assassin's Valhalla, GTA 5, Elden ring etc
Ps5 dogwalks Series X
the games are not particularly well optimized
It'll get a later update and will be locked at 60 fps, but there probably won't an announcement. That's how a lot of their 3rd party games have gone.
Great Review ! Hopefully we'll have a tech analysis for Portal Companion on Switch, that would be great
The best racing game in years 👍 really fun online on PC
Smashy smash cars goes smashing.
Kinda funny that XSX struggles with simple racing game to hit 4K60
So many cool Steam Workshop mods. Been playing old Need for Speed and San Francisco Rush tracks
Extremely fun with a Logitech g923 wheel (on PS5) 😁 some of my favourite arcade-style handling I've tried yet! Great feedback too!
This switch port still looks great in comparison. You can't go wrong really
side note, havent seen Tom Morgan in a while, is he alright?
i have this on xbox. But I would happily add it to my switch collection if a physical version is released.
It is on physical
@@robnorish6515 well I'll be buying it then, lol.
Wreckfest running google stadia 4k HDR 60fps.
I really hope for a wreckfest 2 some day.
last bugbear's game i played is glimmerati.
the physics is amazing considering it is released for n-gage.
I keep hearing "breakfast" for some reason ^^;
Flatout was on PSP, so why not Wreckfest on Switch :D Great games, especially played on handheld.
Such a great game, nothing comes close to this :)
Been playing this at 60fps and high detail on my Xbox One... over xCloud 😎😎😎
@Jimbo Bimbo The server blades are now Series Xs. Each Series X server can emulate 4 Series S consoles, so it streams the Series S version at 1080p at 60fps.
@Jimbo Bimbo Right now xCloud uses the emulated Series S on each xCloud Series X serverblade likely due to save bandwidth.
@Jimbo Bimbo Yeah I've been clear here, they are Series X serverblades, each one emulates 4 Series S consoles. It's all public info.
Happy Canada Day Oliver 🇨🇦
I run the game on the Deck at 60 FPS and it looks a hell of a lot better than the Switch port. I'm a bit dissapointed that you didn't compare the two to each other.
The Deck is more expensive and newer than the Switch though, to be fair.
So it should, The Steam Deck is a much more powerful machine than the Switch.
I agree. It certainly makes sense if he's already comparing it to the console versions too
@@bliglum only more expensive by $50 (OLED) $100 (V2) 🙄. I dont know why people act like the Steam Deck cost $1000 dollars or something.
I think its because the Deck is a PC in itself and is not on a controlled enviroment, which means its less "tailored". Also, the Switch is a more budget console with lower specs.
For some reason this video really makes me want bacon and eggs.
Nice next gen upgrade. Double the framerate, quadruple the resolution. That's 8x the temporal resolution 💟
Worth noting, this game also has really responsive adaptive trigger feedback on PS5.
