Visited NFLD and St-Pierre this summer for the first time. We drove from Montreal. You very well represented the destination. We went in July so there was much more people. I was in Normandy two years ago and i swear at moments it feels like you’re across the Atlantic. I also noticed the French do fit the stereotype of being slim. I asked the zero-size tour guide if it was because they ate better, and she said it’s because they don’t have any fast-food outlets lol. I wanted to do the trails but weather was bad and we returned after two days
Yes, I thought the islands were lovely, even in the colder part of the year. I think it can be a very harsh place to live during the winters, but glad I got to see a side/time of it that many do not. The lack of fast food really does make a difference. I think the slower and less stressful way of life helps as well. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. All the best! ✌️
Am from that area of Newfoundland and our French teacher used to take a group of students there, to France!, ha on over night school excursions , way back in the day.
I am surprised that more people don't visit St Pierre & Miquelon from NL or the rest of the Atlantic Provinces. Such a wonderful way to experience something so completely different! Thanks for checking out my video, I hope you enjoy the others as well! ✌️

@@JohnRiley-q3wYou're crazy if you think that. Newfoundland is fantastic. When I went, I didn't bring a car. I walked on the ferry and it cost me $38. Then I took the bus from Port-Aux-Basques. A long trip, and I was tired, but Newfoundland is incredible. How you would ever think it's cheaper to visit the US is beyond me. I rented a car for a week in Newfoundland and it was a great way to see the peninsula. Maybe don't be so judgemental. Newfoundland and the people there, are definitely worth visiting.
It's been 45 years since I visited and it was amazing to see how much had changed. It had modernized quite a bit and I didn't see all the little bars and taverns along the waterfront. It was a beautiful place to visit And the people were always friendly.
Agreed, the people there are lovely, and the town had so much to see, even in the off-season when it was cold. I'm looking forward to going back someday in the summer, when everything is lush and green. :) ✌️
We took the ferry, mid September two years ago and it was extremely turbulent which we were told is the norm. Didn't bother us as we are sailors but the other passenger's did not fare so well and bags were handed out and used! NOTE: the ferry between Fortune and St Pierre runs once a day meaning you have to stay overnight. Also, even though it was out of season and there was very little open you needed reservations for dinner- we arrived after two and Lunch was over in the restaurants and only bakery open was out of almost everything. We stayed at Hotel Robert; not much to look at from the exterior but friendly staff who were able to get us a reservation for dinner which is a must. We LOVED our overnight stay so much that we are going back this Fall on a NCL cruise again in September. NOTE: the allure of these islands is hiking and Nature - we are not hickers but I may try to make it up the hill - not much else besides the museum and church which were closed when we arrived. So quaint, we LOVED it.

You mentioned the air port . Back in 1968 my uncle was the commandant of the air port ,he was sent there by the French Government . My Mom and I flew to Sydney from Toronto and then onto St Pierre , it was quite an adventure . Staying with family gave us an opportunity to meet with some lovely people . The best was going to visit one of the fishermen who had just come home from his day of fishing and we had the best fish I have ever tasted . It was like going back in time . I am sure some things have changed since then .

One of my wife's uncles was a foreman with the Québec-based company that built the airport. Sadly, he passed away on the islands before the end of the project, so he never saw it in use.
Thank you for the video and head ups. My friend from Montreal and I, from Riviera Maya 🇲🇽, visited Noo FinLand with the idea to extend the trip to St Pierre and Miquelon. I recommend it as a fun getaway to France. :) It's easy to get to, and the food there was excellent. I went off-season, and I can only imagine it's THAT much better in the summer months. Glad you enjoyed the video! ✌️
The town buildings look beautiful. However, seeing the absence of trees was a bit startling. The terrain was more arctic like than I would have ever imagined. I watched the whole series of videos and I don't remember seeing any locals captured in the video. I am wondering how different your experience would be in the summer.
The larger Miquelon Islands have a plethora of trees. You could easily think you're in the middle of the woods about 2 mins after leaving the coastline. The smaller island of St. Pierre doesn't have many trees because it's basically just a giant rock, nicknamed "The Pebble" by locals. This was my first video series, so I was a little apprehensive about filming locals. There were plenty around however. The summer months are a completely different experience as well. I was there in the (very) early spring, where it would still regularly have risk of snow :)
It's actually part of France, so while many tourist shops will accept Canadian dollars, the local currency is the Euro. The bank machines will distribute Euro for you from your bank account back home, just be sure to choose the "let my own bank do the conversion" otherwise you pay a worse rate of exchange through the machine. I have a bit about the ATMs there in my series from SP&M. Thanks for checking it out! It's a lovely place, and a great little slice of French culture!
I am not sure. I would think it would be the same as going to France. It would of course depend on where your are coming from, and many other factors. The time is the year would certainly matter, as during the winter or non-tourist season, I can't imagine they're would be many jobs available at all.
