I love the NX8 2.5-20, so much I bought 2. It's extremely durable, the glass is very crisp, and the tracking is flawless. Prior to buying my NX8s I had a steiner T6Xi, but after needing to send that in for warranty 3 times for durability issues and internal components coming loose and shaking around inside I sold it and went the Nightforce route. I am very impressed with the NX8 it has survived hundreds of rounds of 308 and 300 PRC, multiple falls/slips, multiple wet days, and heavy Oregon rain for 2 hunting seasons. Definitely will be buying more Nightforce going forward.
I'm still rocking an NXS 2.5-10x42mm on my 14.5" Criterion. Really wish NF would make an NX8 2-16x40mm that weighs less than 22oz with the fc-dmx reticle.
i run the nx8 on my mk12 build and its been awesome. I dont have a ton of time behind other scopes so i cant compare it to much, but im really happy with it
Ive got a 2.5 x 20 on both a 300 whisper and a 220 Swift. Capped windage works fine on both as neither are capable of enough distance to need to dial windage. The reason i went with the NX8 is range of power. 2.5 at the bottom makes both thermal and NVD clipons look like daylight shooting. The magnification ability at 20x makes precision shots fairly easy in daylight. It aint no ATACR but isnt supposed to be.
I have 2 of the these, and 2 of the 1-8 nx8. I choose them because I have an old pre zero stop NXS that has been through hell and still works perfectly. I’ve tried a lot of optics over the years and find Nightforce seems to hold zero better than a lot of other optics on my cold bore shots. I like the 2.5 x on these for walking around. Illumination is great. I hear people criticize the eye box, and it is a little better on my ATACR, but I don’t find it a problem practically.
Stating to obvious here, but I think one large advantage for the MPVO(2-16x+) Is PID and smaller targets. At 700 yards a 1-8x is capable of hitting a full size IPSC that contrasts with the back gourd. But when you only have a portion of a target, that doesn't contrast, and doesn't have a nice dirt back stop to find the impact of a miss; this is where the MPVO will out preform even at the same distance.
Adore my NX8 2.5-20. I have the Mil-c F1 variant. I do wish I got the Mil-XT version instead. I use a badger ordnance condition one mount and I have the ARC Riser for it which I piggyback a Steiner MPS off of. The clearance for the badger arc is pretty scary, like it just barely fits. But it does fit and it runs fantastic. The support from nightforce has been extraordinary. I never had a problem with my scope but they sent me screws for my top cap that I needed. I wanted a setup I could use on a 556 to a 6.5 creedmore. I wanted an end all be all setup and this fit the bill perfectly for me. Can’t say enough good things about the scope. You will not be disappointed. The parallax is a little fine and the eye box is also a little tight, but the benefit is you see much more field of view and you also need great fundamentals so it forces you to shoot better.
Might have to try this out, not too happy with my T6xi 2.5-15s clarity from 10-15x definitely have a significant blur after 10 power. Usable but on my hunting gun I’d like to see points on horns at 300yds easily and sometimes it is a challenge depending on lighting conditions. The only hole up I have is the 30mm tube.
I'm hoping to get a 6max gun next year. And that is the scope I want. Maybe Area 419 scope mount. I've never shot long range. Looks fun. Old christian here. Here's a couple chapters I recommend if you're going thru a hard patch. Job chapters 33-34. In the 2001 LXX Greek Septuagint Bible. Online only. Just because its the best translation of Job I've seen. I saw it fulfilled when a good friend did what Elihu recommended. Just like happened to Job in chapter 42. His health was restored.
Realistically, the NX8 eyebox, illumination, and picky parallax kill it for me. I’d rather run the T6Xi 3-18 than this without question. The 2.5-20 had tons of potential but it was just a miss.
Eric for me it makes sense to run this 2.5-20 or the NX8 1-8 over the Credo 2-10 purely for weight reasons. The 23 oz of the credo puts it in the middle but the weight to magnification ratio is favorable to beat out those other two scopes - thoughts?
the 2-10 is still an incredible optic and I run one on my GPR thats 14.5. But I also was just running it on the other MK12 I have. In the end it boils down to your setting and personal preference. If you are running 77 or 80-1/2 grain out of these hybrid 5.56 cartridges and shooting out at to the 700-1000 yard ranges the upper portion of that 20x range, mostly the 17x range really helps get sight of that feedback a lot easier. However Caviet, I also was able to engage out at those distances with the credo and make corrections from feedback. The conditions just have to be right and you have to work a little harder. But its def a great optic and I wish I had more Credo's haha, but the NX8 is pretty incredible, from my perspective.
Yes, they will work with a 1.54. I have mine in a 1.5 Nightforce mount on my AR, and it works perfectly. I personally wouldn't recommend going higher since I tried a 1.7, and it makes it harder to get a good cheek weld. I'd say the 1.5-1.54 is optimal on an AR for the NX8 2.5-20x50.
@@Chonkasaurus Yeah same, that's why I asked since I prefer 1.54 as well. In the video, their mounts look higher to me, maybe because there isn't a buis in the rear. I've been eyeing of of these to replace the NXS 2.5-10x32 on my MK12. I want the better reticle and more magnification is a plus too.
Good topic and well done. For my 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle I have a Bushnell 35 - 21 x 50 with a mil graduated "Christmas tree" hold reticle. I never dial during competition, just use the reticle hold marks. For HUNTING I lust after a BURRIS Eliminator 6 with its laser range finding, temperature, station pressure, inclination and cant sensors. But for my 6.5 PRC BROWNING X-Bolt Pro rifle I have a Bushnell LRTS 4.5 - 18 s 44 small G3 Xmas tree illuminated reticle and the ENTIRE reticle is light up, not just a damn center dot like Leupold does.. An illuminated reticle is great for overcast days or shaded area where big game may be.
If you’re trying to do the the course of fire that these guys are doing, you cannot use a pencil barrel. You must have a heavy wall barrel something to dissipate the heat.
The NX8 series is NightForces worst offerings. The 1-8 is borderline unuseable, the 2.5-20 is better but after running one at JTAC, it got fuzzy after about 500 yards. I think the 30mm tube is the limitation. Ive had better luck with Steiners and NF ATACRS.
I was going to put a scope like that on mine then I watch videos of people getting the barrel hot and seen the point of impact Chang I said no point in me setting up something like that because if shtf I can't keep rezoning it if I get it hot in a gun fight every time
That's a heat issue, not the optic... there will be a change on grouping as a barrel heats up. To help reduce shifting its better to use a heavier barrel profile to slow down the barrel heating up. These Nightforce scopes are not shifting when a rifle heats up.
@Chonkasaurus I know that . that what I was saying it's barrel heat that does it I know the optic are great I'm saying if you have it zero and all your dope work out then get in to a heavy gun fight your zero is going to change then all your scope dope will be off too . You can rezero if you win the fight and have a place to do it and if it won't bring more trouble down on you
❤❤❤DOPE. data on previous engagements should tell you where you point of impact it will be when it gets hot, so you hold to account for that. Knowing your Rifle and having skill makes it happen.
Well some of us go out shooting and PID with higher magnification is necessary. Plus, most 1-10 optics tend to really struggle on the 1x or the 10x. With the 2.5-20 I can have an offset micro red dot and now effectively have 1-20 magnification covered and better glass.
What is your favorite SPR or Scoped Optic? List them below along with the reticle so we can all check it out!

I heard they have an NXS replacement line coming out at SHOT, maybe they’ll bump up from 4x to 6x…
I love the NF 2.5-20. I just picked it up and it’s pretty impressive.
Loving mine. Shoulda held out for the reticle I wanted but a damn fine optic.

Good evening everyone
i roll this in second focal plane on my elk rifle and love it. 2-20 is the perfect range for hunting
I'm currently running a US Optics TS-12x MHR with the reticle. Furthest shots have been 900+ at Element.
The word of God was a very good encouragement. I hope and pray that everyone is blessed and will have a great new year ahead 😊

NF ACTAR 4-16×42 gang sound off!!!
I have one, and it’s great, but like the lower range on my NX8 for this use. I put the ATACR on a Gap 6.5 prc. It works great for that.
Got both, love both
I think this hits that sweet spot in weight, price, and capability.
I have an NX8 and I stand by my opinion that it’s the best optic you can buy for an SPR on the market, and the Leupold offerings aren’t even close
Have one with the tremor3. Great scope. Pair it with an rmr hd and it’s probably my favorite setup
Good choice!

Are you adjusting your parallax? I've never had a clarity issue with a T5 or T6 Steiner.

Its great for the flat range, but the picky paralax makes it not so great with quickly shooting varied distance targets.

Fav range by far
3:13 "budget" option in the same mag range is the uso ts20x. Closer to $1000. I say this just because it's a weird mag range.

price point is steep for sure
2.5 - 20 is simply overkill for any 556 AR. 1-10 is the max you should be running.
Agree but if PID is a necessity, this could work for some people
Yeah, because its no use to be able to see well.....

Very true, .223 is not artillery, it has no power after 500 yards. Maybe for a Grendel or similar this would make sense.
