It amazes me that this man could do this on a tour if not night after night every other night or so. He wasn’t just an amazing drummer he was also a world class athlete! RIP professor!

This show actually took place 7 years before Live In Frankfurt, so Neil likely took several sections from this performance for that one. Neil was a true virtuoso on the drums, and there will never be another one like him. Rest in peace Professor.

That’s interesting as I wasn’t too sure on the timeline. Thanks for that.

My absolute favorite instrumental and drum solo combo performed live by Rush featuring the Professor! I have this on a triple live album from the 90s. Exit stage left. I listen to it every time I use my I pod. The level of playing and versatility in different genres of music in one solo is mind bogglingly sweet! The man was a machine. His stamina along with his acute sense of timing and accuracy is just a beautiful thing to watch! I can't say enough about the man. My idol since the 70s and inspiration. To me there is and was no one better than Neil Peart! RIP. 💥❤

This is from the Test for Echo tour in 1996, which they released the recordings on Different Stages in 1998. Exit Stage Left documented the Moving Pictures tour and was released in 1981.

Once again - as with the Frankfurt solo - Neil shows that he can be a One Man Gang

My first concert ever was in 1982 when I was 15 years old and it was the Rush Signals tour. That night changed everything for me musically.

Oh, and I was actually there when they filmed this concert. It was at the big bandshell down by the lake in Toronto, then called the Molson Amphitheatre. Sadly, it’s since been rebranded as the Budweiser Stage (as if Canadians would ever drink such a thing!).

Were at the show there in the 90s when Alice Cooper opened up for the Scorpions, or at Varsity Arena in 1986 when Stevie Ray Vaughan opened up for Dire Straits ? What about Molson Park in Barrie in the 90s when Jewel, Gin Blossoms and Oasis opened up for Neil Young ?

Wow a drum solo reaction that isn’t Frankfurt. I’m shocked.
Great pick. Rio is still the gold standard.

His solo in Rio ol baterista is also incredible!

I understand now why when I first saw the original Frankfurt drum solo that I saw people in the comments of that original solo saying that the Leave that thing alone solo was even better. Thank you for doing this one Jason

1981 The live album "Exit Stage Left" "YYZ" encapsulates a favorite drum solo for many Rush fans. It is the Peart I grew up with.

Thanks for the post. Very fine reaction.
Just one teensy thing: Peart pronounced his name “P-ear-T”, not “P-ur-T”. There’s actually a scene in the movie, I Love You Man, when Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, playing a couple of Uber-fans who meet their idols in awkward circumstances, briefly argue with Neil over the proper pronunciation of his name!

Just a great reaction, this solo Is great but the Neil's Peart drums solo in Frankfurt Is fenomenal, Is a mix of this solo and really Is not a solo Is a drums song and Is perfect on skills and musical. You must ser it.
    Great reaction

Great reaction to an amazing solo by the professor himself. Thank you very much for posting this I thought I had seen all of his solos but I had never seen this one. Also you are correct he had multiple sections that he would incorporate in different combinations throughout the years.
I am going to recommend a few more of his solos to you if you have not already seen these you should really check them out. There are not nearly as many reactions to these solos as the Frankfurt solo and they are all amazing. Also it is interesting to see more examples of how his solos have evolved over the years.
    1) 1983 Rush YYZ with Drum solo from the "Show Of Hands" tour. This is the version that was painstakingly and expertly remastered by Stickhits about a month ago.

Here's a couple of Peart performances that I love and encourage you to check out, if you havent. Cheers!
    - Drumcam view of Subdivisions - a beautiful example of how a Peart drum part develops throughout even short songs. Every verse is different, and the cymbal work alone is worth the price of admission: th-cam.com/video/T9-bh9kmpWk/w-d-xo.html
    - Neil playing Cotton Tail with the Buddy Rich Big Band - amazing performace at a tribute to Buddy: th-cam.com/video/aT9333XiR4U/w-d-xo.html

What you mention about his hands and feet,. Neil used to call, "functional discoordination". I don't think it came fully naturally.

Looks like the same kit he used for that Frankfurt solo you reacted to

    • @Tonyr0206
      @Tonyr0206 ปีที่แล้ว

This kit is Neil's first DW kit, in red sparkle. The kit from the Frankfurt solo was a new kit made especially for the R30 tour. It's black sparkle with album art on the drums, inspired by Keith Moon's "Pictures of Lily" drum kit.

Neil learned that 1, 1-2 foot pattern from Max Roach I believe. Google "The Drum Also Waltzes." NP Forever! 🥁

I like this version better than the Frankfurt later version, it's a little more raw. The world is genuinely less without him. He is levels above Carey, sorry.

I'm not all that familiar with this solo, my favorite having been the ESL/YYZ one. It think this one moved into the top 2 spot for me.

Check out his solo from the A Show of Hands release. The video is a highly abridged version of his solo (due to time constraints on VHS tapes of the time). BUT, it's still one of my favs. The CD version is a bit longer...but still abridged. LOL
