This is a very helpful video and I love the survey sheet. My local council is allowing trees to be felled in our local wood by "volunteers" but no bat survey has ever been done. They refuse to discuss the problem so I have had to buy a bat detector to assess the woods myself. Wish me luck!
@@ConservationChatUK We went to the woods just before sunset and as soon as I set the detector to 45 and pointed it at the trees, we heard lots of bats! I made a video too, showing the detector and the bats flying overhead. Going back this week to make another. Thankyou!
Wonderful video! I’m looking to purchase a bat detector so I can go on solo surveys (seeing as bat groups aren’t on atm!). Is it worth spending a bit more for the Magenta 5 compared to the 4?
Hi Anna! Really glad you enjoyed the video! There isn't a major difference between the 4 and the 5, unless you want to conduct scientific research and you need the exact frequency for your records. Both work really well :) I suppose having the digital number on screen is always a bonus though!
@@ConservationChatUK I was adjusting a garden light and the light had attracted some flying insects. The insects must have attracted the bat. My son likes to go for a night time run around the pond nearby and often sees bats there also. I suspect they are attracted to the insects buzzing above the water. We live on a new development. The developer was required to install bat boxes on some of the houses and to build a nature reserve around the edge of the estate.

Best of luck Marianne! It's so upsetting when this happens! 😞 Hoping your bat survey goes well! 🙏

Great video, thank you. I got the Magenta 4, as the 5 wasn't in stock. Stick works very well, but the 5 will be purchased soon.

i also can’t access the survey as your website is very fragmented :(
So sorry will look into both
I was in the garden just now and a bat flew about a foot away from my head!
Amazing!

Nice vid, but get rid of the awful music!
