    How nice it is to just sit at ones computer and watch trains go by...particularly if Class 37s are involved!
    I've just created a new playlist on my channel called "Class 37s" and I have added this vid to it.

    I remember when 37's were regarded as utter crap and everyone was foaming at 40's. Had a good one once though, 37010 from Sheffield to Chesterfield. Reckon it was running late as the driver gave it a good thrash and it was a fun ride.

    • @keynsham-trains
      @keynsham-trains  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for viewing . That coach is a inspection coach used by Network rail it is called Caroline it can be pulled or pushed by a loco it takes workers on a tour of the railway network so they can have a good look and have some lunch on there too.

    Can anyone please tell me what kind of train that is 9:44

    • @keynsham-trains
      @keynsham-trains  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for viewing that train is a network rail test train from Derby the yellow coach at the front is a DBSO which has a drivers cab in the front so the 37 can push the train from the rear this cuts out the need for a 2nd loco on the other end of the train .

    I just looked up the Class 37 on Wikipedia and it says they were made between 1960 and 1965 - so are they really still being used in 2018, nearly 60 years later?

      @@keynsham-trains And thanks to a number of crossing incidents taking out class 156 and class 170, we have had them on some rural passenger routes in Norfolk and North Suffolk (Norwich-Lowestoft, Norwich - Gt Yarmouth). Although probably not for much longer. Seeing one of these go over the swing bridges or through the gates in Oulton Broad is a sight soon to be lost. And what a noise....

    What puzzles me is why two power units are needed just to shift 4 coaches? I've seen two units pull a 2 mile coal train in the US. Are Class 37s actually rather feeble?

    • @keynsham-trains
      @keynsham-trains  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The class 37 is now almost 60 years old . They only have 1'750hp engine and the tractive effort they put down to rail is not as good as todays more powerful locos so they are used now on test trains for Network rail . Doing rail tours & charters and stcok moves ie electric units from one depot to another .

    • @pajotero4219
      @pajotero4219 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The yellow stock was departmental so the trailing loco could either have been in case of breakdown or to add weight to the train as a whole or even to just make it easier when going the other way. Locos at either end were often used on the line out of Inverness through Achnasheen and on the Edinburge/Glasgow push pulls on the '80's.

    • @vincitveritas3872
      @vincitveritas3872 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To avoid running the loco around at destinations plus most single track lines don't have loco release anymore as operated by mutiple units. Some are stock movements of coaches and 2 engines.
      The nuclear waste trains have to have two locos for insurance as having a nuclear train broken down awaiting a rescue loco would create bad press in UK. Especially at a busy station!

    • @keynsham-trains
