Thank You so much for this video. I know it was done 3 years ago but I am just about to attempt to adjust the tone arm on my Seeburg Disco SMC1 and I now have a much better idea of what I have to do. I really appreciate the help you have given me.

      Dennis,
I'm of course glad it helped. I had no idea what a Seeburg Disco SMC1 was, so I looked it up. Congrats, it looks like a fun unit. Good luck with it, my friend.
      Regards,
      John

@@joernone John, it is a nice machine, newer, but surprisingly not that different from the jukebox you worked on, and that is why your video's are going to be so helpful to me. I'm about the same age as you, so our taste of music is the same, you have great taste. Message me if you ever need more 45's, I have thousands, all 50's and 60's.

Hi John, I've been enjoying this series of videos and your Philco 630B restoration. I grew up in a small town called Scotland Ark. Scotland is a few miles from Clinton on Hwy 95. I made many trips to Conway when I dated a girl there when I was in high school back in the stone age.

It's coming along nice John. The Jukebox/ coin-op show is coming up on April 7th in Chicago. Usually a lot of Seeburg stuff there. Load up wifey and great grandma in the car and drive up. The group will be the hit of the show! They might make you cook something though.

Enjoyed your video. I have a seeburg jukebox sunstar and on the selection pad the number 2 first number is always on so its only playing the tenors on one side (all the 200 selections.) When I push another like 145 it plays 245. Sure could use some help. I never worked on anything like this. No electric experience

Not been commenting lately, but still around. I'm ready to see this and a color TV play like it's supposed to :)

John, what's that spring hanging loose on the right of the base of your pickup arm (when you look at the pickup arm from the side), right next to the short spring going up ? (26:25 in your video it's visible right next to your screwdriver) It looks as if that spring got squeezed or something; and it's end with the eyelet is hanging free in the air.
Is it supposed to be that way?
Thanks for sharing the video. Great to watch, as always

It seem like the spring was stretched and the leftover was left there per view at 26.41 min.

That tone arm is like a marriage... a fine balance :) You've made this part look easy John and I especially like how you explained all those parts. I still wonder what kind of brain is needed to design something like that. Just amazing ! Great Job.. Ron

Hi John, in order to oil up this section of the mechanism ( play arm and associated bearings ) I use a bodkin. ( a large sewing needle with a cork handle ) the needle is dipped in sewing machine oil and carefully placed at each bearing point, placing just a drop of oil at each location. Again your oil looks a bit like engine oil and covers everything ( no offence intended John ) but I have found this area to be particularly sensitive to maintain total freedom of moving parts , and gets regular maintenance attention every 3 months or thereabouts.

Can you please let me know which video covers the adjustment for the needle dropping onto the record? My jukebox starts playing a half second or so into the song instead of the beginning. I watched this video, but I did not see the needle dropping onto the record adjustment. I learned a lot of other useful information though.

Slow and steady wins the race, as least when it comes to adjusting this mechanism. More progress every video now.

Hi John. My last comment on video 75 was wrong, dead wrong.
The big spring connects to the clutch lift arm.
This spring should stop the clutch disengaging from the carriage drive cog.
    A clutch return spring?
    Enjoying this project very much.
    Regards Russ.

    Hi John,
Man, you have a lot of patience! But things are looking good my friend. Btw, have you heard from ol Buzz lately, he’s been very quiet of late. I hope all is well with him!

Maybe it’s time to order a new set of springs? Those may have lost some some of their magic

Need to rewrite my comment about the Tormat contact block. I'm thinking the mount for it is a bit warped or bent & is binding on the length of the rear of the mech base or rear of the magazine & causing the carriage to stick when it is scanning. I think it should be checked & it may need bending or straightening plus cleaning & if necessary lubing.

  • @rick420buzz

I think what you're referring to as 'balance' towards the end, is actually the anti-skate.

    • @jakedaniel66
      @jakedaniel66 6 ปีที่แล้ว

You're right but the manual calls it "balance" for some reason or other, (I own a Seeburg only one year older than this one and have the manual).
