How to set up the Tama Dyna-Sync Direct Drive Drum Pedal - James Payne

  • Hey guys, I did a video on how I set up the new Tama direct drive pedals Dyna-Sync. These pedals are a revolution not only because of the direct drive, but also because a few new settings that Tama introduced to set up the pedal in a more efficient way, and this has changed the game for me! As a 'chain pedal' player I have never really liked the direct drive pedals feeling, but this time I can chose the balance of the pedal with these new settings and that allows me to find exactly the feeling that I want on a pedal! I really suggest every drummer to go and check these pedals.

    Thank you! This is an excellent presentation of the detailed thinking behind the pedal design instead of simply “Tama now has a direct drive pedal.” The factory should be including this kind of explanation about HOW the balance & feel changes by moving the footboard setting. Much appreciated, James.

Sometimes I can get to 260 BPM with oddly little effort. Other sessions I struggle entirely and fart through it. I suppose new pedal and all that but it’s definitely a better direct drive move if used to chain than most of the others. So far impressed but confused at my knees sudden demolishing speed or utter uselessness.

    In addition to what he showed, It also has independent beater angle adjustment from the hex bolt on the top right side (just above the spring) .. being able to change the balance of the pedal however by sliding the cam is really what makes all the difference ..

    Hi James, I need to ask you a question regarding the tama dyna sync, since I recently bought them, and I saw a video of you testing them where you had changed the beater for the ones that bring the iron cobra. I have some old iron cobra too, and I tried their beaters on the dyna sync and heard a better sound, I'm thinking of buying some speed cobra beaters or some iron cobra from the new model, but I can't decide which ones will sound with the best click, I could you advise?

    How do you feel the differences between dyna-sync and Iron cobra? How much better or worse is Dyna-Sync than Iron cobra? How much faster can you play on the Dyna-Sync pedal compared to the Iron cobra? I am currently using an Iron cobra twin pedal and am planning to include a Dyna-Sync pedal as well, so I ask how many differences do you feel between the two pedals? Have you experienced swinging left and right with the Dyna-Sync pedal due to the swivel technique?

    Please make a video about 6 other settings from tama dyna sync .... So we can see how every setting from every part of the pedal effects the feeling of the pedal ....

    • @pumpalBo
      @pumpalBo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of you can not describe the feel of a pedal in a YT video. Secondly, It has 6 marks for each 3 settings, but you are not limited to just 6 - they are only marks - it is actually continuous setting the combination of 3 independent adjustments (here he shows only two, but you also have the angle of the beater adjustment).. Means you have complete freedom to adjust any aspect of the pedal reaction and feel, but this will also depend on what size is your bass drum, how it is tuned, do you have a port on the reso or not.... In my case this is the only pedal I was able to adjust to my preference for my 24x14 with no reso port. You can not play burying the beater with such setup and it is much more technique demanding but this pedal I could easily adjust and it has been great! This is the main difference between other hi-end pedals - you can change the balance on these...this really is a game changer IMO

    Do you feel like the left beater is heavier ?Since the left beater's holder has angle adjustment and therefore is bigger than the right one which is not adjustable at the drive shaft but at the top of the spring assembly. Maybe it's an obvious answer but I didnt know
