When my Dad was still living he would always grow vegetables every summer. we had a large spread to grow all sorts of things. i had three sisters in my family, and always help him planting every thing. when he passed away i kept up the tradition. our next door neighbor planted vegetables too, and he gave me a space to continue . now it's just herbs and tomatoes peppers simple things i can plant on our porch. I saw a few things on pinterst. planting seeds in empty juice or milk cartons. i see your kids are trying to out Whooooo each other. 😊❤thanks

Heather, thank you for showing how to dehydrate herbs. I've canned and have dehydrated food for years, but have yet to dehydrate herbs. After watching your video, I'm going to try it. Thanks for encouraging us to try new things by your tutorials. Love the sound of the littles in the background. I'm a retired preschool teacher and enjoy the sound of littles busy at play. Love your videos!

I have an indoor basil plant and out of curiosity I snipped a few and put the in a baggie in the freezer. It preserved them very well! If you don't have a dehydrator like me, this is an alternative if your herb plant is starting to not look so great but you don't want to waste it. Now I'm going to try in with dill!
    Dill dip is so yummy!
Equal parts mayo and sour cream.
Salt and garlic powder to taste.
So easy! Great with cucumber or any raw veggies!
    🙂

Heather you could chop up the dill stems and dehydrate them and ground it into dill powder..... You could add it to you pickles as well or save in case you run out of dill this winter! I did this with my asparagus I canned.... I kept the woody ends and dehydrated them then ground them into powder/flour and they are awesome!!!!! For soups, sauces, casseroles, smoothies etc; Just sharing a thought! All of your herbs look amazingly beautiful in your pots!!!!!
Today I will be dehydrating frozen mixed veggies and frozen green beans! Tomorrow I'm dehydrating chopped fresh organic carrots! YEHAWWWW!!! Good things do happen in the desert! 🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵

I just put the whole plant in and dehydrate then rub off the fronds when it's finished. Makes less blowing around inside and waste! Also the large stems can be used to flavor potato soup. Just tie them with kitchen string and remove when cooked.

Thats what happened the first time I dehydrated dill when i put the fronds in. I have an Excalibur and it blew all around and if i opened the door it was a nightmare. They would blow out. So now I leave all my herbs on their stems and then when they are ready I take them out and crunch them off the stems. Works beautifully.

Heather, I use some of my dill to make "Dill Vinegar". I use one of those lemonade glass bottles you get at Aldi. Fill with white vinegar and add dill sprigs to it! I use it a bunch, it's so good! Love your vids, could watch you doing dishes and wouldn't be bored :)

Nothing better than you own dried herbs! Here's a TIP for you - When drying your herbs in the Excalibur, place one if the unused white drying sheets over the herbs. This way your herbs don't fly all over the dehydrator. :)

On a tray, dehydrate the woody bits. When done, vitamix'em tompowder and use in dips and such. The fluffies are nice/pretty in pickles, the woodies are just as tasty but less pleasant texture cause so tough. Powdering them wastes none and you get all the flavor in a diferent appplication.

I did basil and curly leaf parsley yesterday and oregano, thyme are next. My dill hasn't grown enough but will do this when it does. Can I use dehydrated dill in pickles? My cucumbers 🥒 only have flowers right now and my dill won't last that long. PS. My boys beg me to dehydrate mini marshmallows every month, thank you for showing us that one.

I have a air fryer and my niece order my groceries delivered today. i have a hand full of dill. and wondering how keep them from going bad, i been trying to save the seasoning containers that they come in .and wash and clean them, but eventually throw them out. Question .when its done do you chopped your dill up?. and i also have a food saver machine. to keep it fresh. 😊

Heather, just last night I harvested two types of basil, dill, rosemary, lemon balm, chocolate mint, and peppermint. Got to dehydrate in my Excaliber this morning. Got a question...have you had any of the screens in your trays kind of buckle after dehydrating? Yesterday I dehydrated some old chicken breasts to make jerky for the dogs treats and my tray screens are buckled now. Not sure what happened and I don't want to have to replace the them. Thanks and enjoy your videos!

Thanks for showing. My herbs got a late start so my dill is not ready to be picked yet. Your herbs look amazing. Do you like the flavor of the purple basil? I planted it in my garden around six years ago in each corner because it looked so pretty. I had never had it before. I didn't care that much for the flavor, but I keep getting purple basil coming up each year, in the yard, in the garden, anywhere it decides to come up. LOL You were smart planting it in a pot. :))

Remember to cut off the flowering tops of your herbs! They will be able to better produce tasty food for you, rather than putting all their energy into their flowers. Your garden is looking wonderful!
