I do really think that this is her best era but when I remember when she talked about how she was still battling against drugs it makes me see all so different. She was brilliant in this music video, but I can't stop thinking about how she was suffering inside bc of that. I come to the conclusion: everything is not what it seems, there's always something behind, a mental war, a pain in the heart, a human being discovering life, I'm so proud of her in her overcome, pure admiration.

In my opinion, the song is about personality. When we come to this world our personality has not been formed yet so we are cold and clear and that is why florence screams "SAY MY NAME and every colour illuminates".. inside her. The name is the first thing that is somewhat individual to you and that starts the colors that you will "select" when your personality forms. I am not very sure about the colours she says but I believe blue is about unity, the exact opposite of individuality, showing that creating bonds with others is a good thing too and the ocean is all the 7 oceans in the world connected to each other (bonds). Grey means your neutral self in my opinion, she says grey when we pray so I think she means when we pray we obviously do it for something to happen like praying so your kid won't die from cancer or whatever, which means that we speak of a painful and true thing, thus metal in our tongue and since it's about care I silver in our lungs is about the pain we are facing makes it hard for us to breathe (?). The last colour (black) was pretty easy to interpret. Its about our death, revival and the only thing that remains in the world of us, our personality, thus florence gets rid of the black cape and shows her gold dress (her personality maybe?). When I mean personality I mean the impressions we left to others and the memories they have of us too. That's what I see from this song
To the plain public, such as myself, it can be interpreted as a love song, that the act of your significant other "saying your name" can fill you with great joy and happiness, thus the colors and illumination. Although your analysis is very interesting and thought provoking, I think you're just digging too deep into it, which is not entirely wrong, mind you, it is encouraging. Then again maybe Florence did write this as you described and I'm just being a dick about it.

I was looking for this song for almost 8 years, since I first heared it on TCM. It haunted me.. Sometimes I would wake up in the morning and have it stuck in my head all day. I was searching for it everytime I would remember this beautiful song, but with no luck.. because I was a kid when I heared it for the first time and didn't know english that well, the lyrics were a mistery to me... until I saw an article about Google's new humming search feature.. and I finally found it! I literally cried when I heared it again, it was like a heavy stone removed from my soul.
