I vote for Beef Jerky. Lol. Print a camera holder with FDM printer.

I tried it just like you said on my model # 505-637-50 and it didn’t work, nor did sticking a pin in the hole near the locking screw to disengage the track that moves he mechanism back and forth. I have three matching dial calipers and all are off by .030”, .005” and .025” in relative to the Zero position. What can I do?

That’s not necessarily true. Depending on the series, there is no access hole to disengage the rack . In those cases, Mitutoyo provided a small phosphor bronze shim that you could slip between the rack and the pinion to temporarily disengage the rack from the pinion gear and reset the pointer hand. This is tricky for the novice.
I’m my opinion, if the hand is only off a tiny bit, moving the rack is super easy. If you’re brave, removing the hand and placing it back on at the zero position is fairly painless

You can take the bottom screw out the one that is below the dial and you can take a tool like a paper clip and push it up inside there and disengage the rack and then you can turn your dial back to zero pull the tool out and it will stay right there.

      That didn’t work on mine.
