How to service Mitutoyo dial calipers and how to fix Mitutoyo Dial needle from fluctuation giving false readings. Details how to try different preload settings
I found all three videos extremely helpful thanks. My 505 has a regular clunk as I go up and down the rack so I want to disassemble it to find the problem. I figure it’s probably a piece of grit stuck in a cog. I had no idea about the preload. Thanks heaps, Stuart 🇦🇺
Very good series. I have a caliper to fix myself. I'll use the videos (also mitutuyo, but not this brand exactly) so - thank you so much for the help and videos posting!
Great series of videos. The sound track was very quiet, and you mumbled at times. I have a different model. Mine is a model 505-626 on the dial face. It is in index, although there is a mm scale, too! The dial goes from 0 to 100 to half way, then another 0 to 100! The box says 505-633 p15.
Great series of videos,,, even though I’m actually disassembling a set of Fowler calipers, they are actually built about the same, except a couple of the plastic parts on the mitutoyo model are either aluminum or stainless on the Fowler brand. And the Fowler brand has three set screws on the back shim instead of two ? Thanks for the information !!! o.w.
Are both the gear wheels spring loaded with same spring tension? Or only one them? In my caliper, spring loop from one wheel is coming out. Please help
@@YoucandoitwithJules thanks for the help! One of the gear was worn out. So i changed it from another damaged calipers. And yes one of the gear is in 'full-on' spring tension, the other one has very little spring tension. I just placed the gear train on the rack. No preload or anything. Still trying to figure out how to preload. So that needle does not jump one or two graduations on dial when bought back to zero.
i did the exact same thing. tried to press in that little slot ont he bottom to reset the needle to true north, and square the dial to the ruler but it seems like press their did nothing so i just backed away and ill leave it cock eyed :P
Hi yes some dials seem to have a reset function and other don't. You can do it. If all you want to do is reset the needle you can do that easily by. taking the dial cover off remove needle and reset. You can do it
Thanks man. Accidentally took my calipers apart at work. This series really saved my ass
Glad it helped. You can do it 👍
Every press brake operator needs to watch this ! Great job thank you
Pleasure to help. You can do it
I like your pre-load warning. waiting on a replacement crystal, then planing on tearing mine down for a good cleaning.
Keep us posted on how it goes 👍
Awesome patience to do a 3 vid set. Really well explained. Much appreciated.
Glad it helped. You can do it 👍

Thanks for the videos i just followed your video step by step although it took me several hours i got the preload set.
Glad to hear it all worked out. It’s a bit nerve racking the first time but next time you’ll do it in minutes. You can do it 👍
SWEET! had no idea about preload and was always wondering why this happened!
You can do it 👍
It is not shown in your videos - how did you remove the bezel? Did you just pry it off? My caliper is missing a crystal and I want to fix that.
Hi, it's in Part 1 just use your thumb nail to gently pry off. If I'm doubt check the part 1 video. You can do it 👍
Awesome, this is exactly the problem I am looking for the solution for!
Perfect. It’s great when you find a video the solves your exact problem. You can do it 👍
Very helpful. Still found the whole process a bit nerve wracking though. Thanks.
Midnight Joker Hope it all worked out. You can do it 👍

In my caliper, spring loop from one wheel is coming out.
Please help
I think from memory just one wheel is sprung as it take up the slack against the other. Keep us posted on how it goes. You can do it 👍

И чё настоящий митутойя не подделка
Oh no, just when I thought a dial caliper was simple they have to complicate it with a frigging preload mechanism.....GRRrrrrr
You can do it 👍
