I struggle with assurance so much, knowing I'm lost might be easier. Does that mean I’m damned?

Thanks for proclaiming the gospel to us who struggle with doubt, especially me and for encouraging us to leave a church that isn't preaching the gospel

Boy do I understand what it's like to have those gloomy doubts. Thats why I joined an lcms church.. I came out of a branch of evangelicalism that told me I had to be fully surrendered to Christ to be saved. It about wrecked me. I still struggle with assurance and it's been 20 years now. I fill my mind with programs like this one along with Gospel centered hymns and Christ centered sermons. I need a whole lot of Gospel, let's just put it that way! Thank you for your TH-cam channel!

I will never forget the famous Presbyterian theologian, dead for four years now, who in one of his radio broadcasts advised the listeners who were unsure about their salvation to LOOK WITHIN!!! He went on to say that if the listener found within himself the slightest love for Christ, that was ground for salvation. I remember screaming in shock and horror when he said it. "Look within." A formula for a traumatized life.

Looking within has caused me lots of trauma. Now I spend most of my time looking within and analyzing every thought, and behavior. I have even started thinking I may be a narcissist which has added more fear!

@@reneewilliams1747 , no, it's anxiety. It sounds like it. If you're young, it's especially likely. Is it anxiety disorder? I don't know. It might not hurt you to become familiar with the anxiety disorders. You might see your own struggle in a description of one or more of them.

I have been this person curled up in the fetal position in fear. Thankfully God brought me out of this. I think one place I always go back to when I feel the darkness of doubt closing in is the fact that in the proclamation of the gospel Christ genuinely and freely offers Himself and all His saving benefits to me. I can always go back to this and reembrace Christ and His righteousness for me. Nothing makes the darkness scatter like this.

Same! I went through almost 2 years of terror and thinking I had lost my mind and soul! I was literally in the fetal position and no one could reason with me. One pastor brought me great relief when he said "dead people can't feel."

Excellent, thank you Ted and Dad, so thankful I found the the video " The Gospel to those broken by the Church" . That is where I finally heard the true Gospel for the first time and it saved my faith!

"Yep, I've already done that. I've completed that … for you." Over and over again. I think, more and more, that the repetition factor in preaching and one-on-one ministry is so critical. And even in the conversations of lay people. Our church foyers should be filled with "gospeling the gospel." And if the gospel isn't the absolute sweetest thing for us to encounter, perhaps we don't see our sin clearly.

@SvnsetSomnia Not presently! I almost did at one point, but my favorite Harley rider told me, "Oh no, you don't! You have kids to raise." So that idea got shelved for the now. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

Bedside and ER theology. The church that is faithful and true is a hospital for sinners.
