This song was played live on the first worldwide satellite broadcast to the entire world. They performed it perfectly, in spite of some last minute technical difficulties! Once again, they broke new ground and demonstrated that they were a world class act. Greatest band of all time!!
First televised performance ever via satellite. Over 400 million people worldwide viewed and witnessed the Beatles perform this song written specifically for this occasion. Love your beautiful reaction and early Beatles music should be next like This Boy or maybe She Loves You which was sang playfully and the end of this song lol.
Did you know that 2 days ago just happened to be the 54th anniversary of the Beatles being the first group ever to play live to a world wide audience of approximately 400 MILLION people. It was done via the first ever live television Satellite hook-up and this song (ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE), brand new and still not on an album at the time, is the song they chose for the epic occasion --- a message for the ages. This was yet another first for this amazing, talented and very special group of musicians.
@@ashestostardust666 Well, what's a few hundred million give or take. Actually, if you look it up in Wikipedia (as well as various other sites), you will consistently see the audience number estimated between 350 and 400 million. Feel free to give us the link to the site or article that say's 700 million --- should be interesting to read and see what else they might have gotten wrong.
What really made so many of The Beatles songs so special, was the contribution of "The Fifth Beatle." Sir George Martin, the producer of The Beatles worked closely with Paul and John to work out all of the orchestrations and many of the new studio techniques that The Beatles developed during their later albums.
@@Johnadams20760 ,,, there were other band members, too. John's art school pal Stuart Sutcliffe was in the band for a time as bass player before he stayed behind on one of the early Beatles' working trips to Hamburg. A fellow named Jimmy Nichol filled in for Ringo for a couple of weeks on tour when Ringo was felled by a very bad stomach or pneumonia or gout. Before Pete Best, the band had a hard time finding a drummer as few kids had the money for a proper drum kit. There were probably 12 or 13 Beatles over the years, including manager Brian Epstein.
Paul said he never understood the lyrics of this song by John. But I think what John was trying to say was that there is very little that hasn't been said, done or sung about before, but it doesn't matter, you are important and you can learn to play this game of life by being yourself and doing it with love. RIP John Lennon
Thanks for the explanation! I love this song, but I wasn't so sure what the lyrics meant. Yes! This makes so much sense. I'm an artist, and I I'm my own worst critic, when I have what I think might be a totally original idea, it probably already has been done, but that's ok. Some things bear repeating, like all you need is love. I'm finally learning after a long time that as corny as that may sound, it's true. Self love is the most important form of love, it really is true that you can't love someone else until you love yourself. Mr. David Lynch, the movie director and artist recommended we listen to this song today on Juneteenth, a day to celebrate love and also freedom.
I first started listening to the beatles when I was about 25 and they blew my mind. I was only familiar with the same few songs the radio plays, so to find out about the other stuff was pretty shocking. No nostalgia bias, just fantastic music for any generation.
One of the interesting things about this song is the way it starts. It's the Marseillaise (French national anthem). So imagine the English Beatles (biggest band in the world at that time) in the first televised performance ever via satellite starting their song with the French anthem... It surely must've caught people off guard. That shows that regardless of how great they were, they didn't take themselves too seriously...
and you know, love may not be all you need but its definately a good start. without love few of us would even be here. the idea of life is to leave the world better than it was when you arrived. and this can't happen without LOVE! you have a beautiful and infectious smile. don't forget to listen to the beatles' r&r too. ITS GREAT! thanks for video.
What I love about this track is the syncopation of the opening lyrics by John. It's really hard to do and I've heard a lot renditions in which the vocalist doesn't match that syncopation, but it makes the song.
The height of flower-power almost revolved around the Beatles and this is, to all intents and purposes, its anthem. It was also part of a global satellite broadcast - yes, in 1967 - that really cemented the band as the main force in Anglo-American music. The message is positive enough to be spread beyond the northern hemisphere today.

The playout references classical and jazz cues (including missing jazz composer/conductor Glenn Miller - and The Beatles themselves) just to drive home a message of unity across music, as in people.
'Eleanor Rigby' should be the next Beatles song Cynthia. Something you may not know is that it was with that song that the older generation began to realise that John Lennon and Paul McArtney were the Shakespeare's of their day. Middle-aged people cried to that song and you will understand why. But don't forget to react to Felice Taylor singing 'I feel love coming on'. That one will make you happy! And I wonder if anyone has suggested that you react to Rod Stewart singing 'Maggie May'?? That one is an all-time classic and would appear in most people's top ten best single hits ever.
you are correct in your reaction , the song is complicated musically even though the lyrics are simple . the feeling from the music and the repeating " all you need is love " is the point. You should watch the live version they did of this song broadcast by satellite
FYI: The story behind the writing of this song, is that in 1967 the Beatles were asked to represent the UK on the world's first worldwide satellite TV broadcast special called "Our World." For the occasion, the Beatles very much wanted to deliver a message to the world but was simple enough to be translated into every language in the world. As a result, John Lennon wrote, "All You Need Is Love." Then on 25 June 1967, the Beatles recorded and performed the song live before a TV audience of 700 million people.
