My husband's 2015 Ford truck just started doing the same thing this week! found this video while searching for solutions. I guess we will see if the warranty covers it.
My 2013 Explorer just showed that message, Ford says bring in for diagnostics check ($200), plus any update fees ($75), plus new SD card ($150).. ($425).. or after market GPS for $300
I have the same [problem. Cmax I discovered thet what happens is there is an overload on the 5 volt line of the sd card which also knocks out the thumb drive. You are right, I have to shut off the car for aprox 5 min. and alow the 5 volt line to resast which allows the systems to function normally.
I bought a new 2012 Ford Focus SEL last week. I have an IPod connected to LIne-in. I think there's a static electricity issue with the connection (SD too? I don't have it.). Static charges can clobber computer chips and systems as if randomly. I'm thinking of unplugging the jack before I leave vehicle so any charge dissipates before I return.
i just bought another a7 sd card still not working. 149 dollars for something i already paid for. money scam. why i buy chevy. not as many recalls or issues
I have a 2013 and have the EXACT same problem!! It renders my awesome car practically useless!! When the screen freezes i don't even have radio. It can take up to 20 minutes to enter in an address on the occasions when it does work and its not even slightly intuitive. If you don't know the exact address (rd vs drive vs ave) and the exact city (i live in a huge metroplex where city limits aren't easily defined) you're screwed. I have to use my iPhone for navigation about 80% of the time.
You have to reset the radio or unit with the master reset and then add your phone and fm station again it a complete hassle wish you could just save setting to the Sd card of and you must disconnect all devices even the sd. card before you reset it will tell you that before you confirm
Try an update first the car is 4 to 5 years old depending on when it was made, this is the first gen of this system so there is going to be glitches, im sure it's annoying but not the end of the world the older this system is the more outdated it becomes same as any electronic device
How did you drive cars before they had navigation? Were you stuck in your driveway? It seems that nowadays people are really trying to nitpick every little pointless things to complain about :( But yes on the negative side an extra trip to the dealership can be annoying.
Haha my 2012 focus just started yesterday after all these years . Sounds like Ford is counting on the extra revenue from people bringing in there cars . It’s probably intentional .. I’ll just go buy a Toyota.. American junk lol.
Even in the non my ford touch systems (Europe based cars) I get an SD error from time to time. Only thing I have to do is remove the card wait 5 secs, put it back in. Problem solved.
Did you ever get this fixed? I am having the same problem but its not intermittent, it happens ALL THE TIME, Ford is telling me the same thing, "software update" to fix it. Its really annoying, and they wont fix it.
Thanks for the instruction video Ford said I have to bring it in... Go figure
Big thank you! It worked after I searched on line for a lot of intimidating solutions. Thanks again!
Thanks for the tip, it worked!

Mine used to work but now the card isn’t working. Bought a new one and it isn’t registering at all in the slot.

So you're ok with purchasing items that do not work? I have a ton of shit to sell to you then :-P
update your firmware 1st, your interface is old once that done request ford dealer for A4 sd card.
It also could be your SD card keeps ejecting and it needs reolaced
I would sue the pants off of Ford,if they knowingly sell you a faulty product, then by all means, sue the company,I really wish you would.
SD card worked once I pulled it out.

Drat. I thought this was a fix video. It’s just 3:53 minutes of whining.
Wow... so difficult to fix it...
ableite It's just pop card out and put it back in. How is that so difficult? Lol.
Just pop SD card back in, spring loaded!!!!!
Carol Cunningham Was helping a family member with this today...
