It’s great you upload footage of Federer peak back in 2005-2007 cause people dont have access to many matches back then Federer played when he was absolutely flawless !
0:15 You can see how Fed started off on the other side of the court. Henman hits a decent bh down the line. Fed is there in a flash and hits a ridiculous crosscourt FH with an angle and pace that makes Henman looks completely unprepared. (Even though Henman was already leaning in that direction.) Any tennis fan has to look at what happens to that ball once it hit the ground. It just zipped away.
When i saw the year I already know that Federer is the winner of the match, just 2006 was something unique, 92 wins and only 5 losses against only 2 different players and 2 losses on hard court in all year, prime Roger it's something special
Great to see some Henman highlights. The guy was a great player and a staple of many childhoods here in Britain! The guy made the most of his talent, reaching 4 in the world and 6 grand-slam semis!
it does, hey. I reckon 1. they shot on film back then, you can tell tennis went digital some time around 2009 - 2011 I would guess? no HD is part of this too. and 2. the court is all green which we haven't had in a long long time, it's more associated with the 90s and prior
I will never forget suffering I had to endure in 2000s in regards of tennis. Living in Croatia it was impossible to watch all these amazing matches, Internet was bad, no streams.. I missed so many matches😢
Henman was never the modern athlete, but his touch at net was soooo good. Has any other pro use slazenger rackets since? It's almost quaint seeing Tim decked out in all British gear, but I assume at the time they were as good an option as other brands (like Nike, wilson, etc) if a top 10 pro was using them?
Nice match! I've never seen much of Henman so its nice to actually see a match from him. He showed up in some tennis video games, around the time, but I never actually saw him play. Also hadnt seen a lot of matches from 06 Federer that many talk about so much.
I remember this tournament. Roger had a freak nightmare during his sleep and hours later, he almost lost to Suzuki who was ranked outside of the top 1000. After he survived that, the rest was history and he cruised to the Tokyo title.
Henman put up a fight but you could see why his game had limits with the way the courts were changing. Accurate serve with some solid zip, excellent transition game/volleys and as seen here he could even thump groundies when he had time and went for it but his standard rally ball just wasn't big enough to consistently trouble the newer guys, much less peak Federer.
It's unfortunate that a lot of folks today won't realize that Tim Herman is probably top 5 best players to never win a major. Probably the best serve and volleyer not named McEnroe, Becker, or Edberg.
I was a big Henman stan as a kid, I used his Slazenger rackets and I still have and use the Slazenger tennis bag I owned back then! That said, I feel like it's hard to omit the guy who won 14 slams serving and volleying on your list....
@@jxyz7240 My thoughts (almost)exactly. Rafter was a top-level exponent of the art - as was Sampras (though not such a pure SV). Yes - and not that many names given 50 years of ATP. You might be able to argue about Laver and the other Aussies - but it's so hard to compare such different eras.

Some of Henman's approaches are suicidal. He is very good at the inside out forehand to the opponents backhand and then the easy kill. Looks like De Minaur the way he attacks those balls.
Watching old Roger match highlights is always entertaining, but watching all these "weaker wing" BH passing shots whiz by Henman is hilarious. People always criticized Roger for the lack of winners off his BH but part of that is because after 2006 guys just didn't come to the net as often. It's just harder to hit tons of rally winners with a single hander.
Henman was not one of the most gifted players during the early 00's yet he was one of the few who kept playing at this point in time (2006). By this year the likes of Rafter, Kafelnikov, Ríos, Kuerten were already retired or on the verge of it. This is one of the reasons that Federer dominated between 2004-2008: he only had to compete with his own generation and the lesser players from the previous one.
What a load of rubbish. Henman was one of the best natural vollyers there has been. You clowns that keep pushing this 'weak era' nonsense at any opportunity need to stop watching videos from TH-camrs who weren't about at the time.
The last statement about Federer's competition is unfortunately inaccurate in a major way. During 2004-2008, RF actually competed with the two greatest players of the NEXT generation, some guys named Rafa and Novak (5-6 years younger). Rafa started winning slams in as early as 2005 and started challenging for slams outside of clay beginning 2006; he was a beast at a very young age to say the least. By 2007, Novak was already a semi-finalist at most majors. We could see their talent early on. (It's not unlike what we're seeing now with Alcaraz, who's able to collect his slams quite early, well before his prime.) The other reason for Federer's domination is simply that he was that far ahead of his competition (and thus making the field look weak), and was a special talent (something that many tennis commentators, including past pro players, frequently remarked upon).
