2:02 I can't help but wonder where that guy is now and if he knows about being seen on live TV, how he feels to be forever remembered as the guy who spent the final minute of the 1980s climbing on top of a random street sign in Times Square.
I never realized that this video was uploaded. It was very wet and cold night. The police removed the sign post the next year. At the time, a couple of people told me that they saw me at midnight. I could not climb the pole today.
I was 11 this year, and remember watching this. We had a little NYE party, and I rememeber thinking I can't believe it's gonna be 1990 soon. But I loved the 80's.
If you think about it: The 2000s was 10 years ago. Now it’s 20 years ago. The 1990s was 20 years ago. Now it’s 30 years ago. The 1980s was 30 years ago. Now it’s 40 years ago. The 1970s was 40 years ago. Now it’s 50 years ago. The 1960s was 50 years ago. Now it’s 60 years ago. The 1950s was 60 years ago. Now it’s 70 years ago.
For me, it is hard to believe that this New Year's celebration took place exactly 3 decades ago (30 years ago)... Where has time gone??? My goodness.... 😵😵😵😵😵 R.I.P. Dick Clark.
Bittersweet saying goodbye to the excellent 80's but I was 15 and not much to worry about except getting my license, girls and sports! Only If we were able to bottle those carefree feelings! I tell my 3 boys (2 are men now 21 & 18) to grab hold of their youth & enjoy every waking second..the same stuff I heard from my father and the same response I get from my boys...Ok Dad, we know🤯
I found it on archive.org new years rockin eve 1990. the entire broadcast including with original commercials from 1989-1990. never seen before. Bob Saget, from AFHV, don't blink.
+Nesmaniac the crazy thing...technically; it was the 1990s in New York City, but it was still the 1980s for like 3 more hours in Los Angeles.... I was alive when this happened, but I don't remember it at all... my dad's an engineer by day (he invented the carbon monoxide detector at Kidde Fenwal in 1983...) but he's a lead blues guitarist too, so on New Years Eve, my mom, my older sister & myself were all at whatever gig his bands were booked to play on New Years Eve... I recall being asleep on the table of a Restaurant that;s been about 10 different establishments in Ashland, Massachusetts next to the _Ashland Public Library_ (google earth that shit if you're unfamiliar) but the 80s was alright...but I remember lots of hot pink, black & white tiled floors laid out in a checkered formation (...for some reason), Saved by the Bell (because of my older sister), Madonna, one of my earliest memories, was, this young blonde chick was babysitting my sister & I, & we were all watching some Madonna thing and Madonna ripped off her top and her tits were out and the blonde chick changed the channel & I yelled at her...she laughed...i don't recall much more details than that...
Yeah as an ex nyc resident who saw it happen its really sad to watch this old video. In many ways I miss the old times square. I was probably in that crowd down there partying away with a girlfriend :) RIP Dick Clark, we will miss you.
I'm just watching this and noting the differences from then to now. I'm not exactly sure why I picked 1990. I just wanted to watch an old Dick Clark tape that wasn't TOO long ago. No sponsors. Not everyone had to wear a 'Nivea' hat to be on TV. Cigarette billboards and adult theaters were everywhere in Times Square. 1990 ended up being New York's most dangerous and deadly year. A lot has changed, some for the better, some for the worse!
