Starman is a classic and Mega Mushrooms are great.
But by far my favorite is the golden leaf from NSMB2 (3DS) the one where Mario can fly, lasts for a entire level and only has ears+tails and gold-white clothes instead of putting a full-on fursona.
I agree. I kind of like it better than the White Tanooki.
Only problem with mega mushroom is that whatever power up you have, you just lose it

I haven't seen Super Mario Land in YEARS. Man, that took me back to my childhood. Thank you for that moment of nostalgia.
Also, I would like to point out that when he comes into contact with an item that grants invincibility, he is also capable of moving faster than normal. This apparent speed boost only lasts as long as the former effect, which is ten seconds for the Super Star, and the entire level for white tanuki and white cat.

I think it’s to ensure that you get to the enemies quickly since being slower could mean you lose a couple of seconds.

New Super Mario Bros U confirmed us that the Invincibility theme actually makes Mario emmanate the music from his body
Which means that when Mario gets it, all enemies have left to do is wait as they hear the music get louder and louder.

I played Super Mario Odyssey once or twice every year and never have I ever knew that there was any invincibility power up in the game(although to be fair, I never used the amiibo ability once in this game the 6 or 7 years its ben out)

The star at 0:24 was actually there to mislead you. If you skip this star and focus on the first Koopa Troopa on the other side you can get a 1up if you jump on it sending it gliding to take out the rest of the Koopa Troopas in your path. Just don't get hit by the gliding Koopa Troopa when it bounces back off the wall. Try it out!
