    I never comment on videos, but I played a music festival last night, and Valerie June was next up after us. I have no words. Okay, I do: love, light, grace, joy. She held the audience in her hand, and hugged each and every one with her voice. New fan for life.

    Still amazes me how rotten people can be on social media. You just have to wonder why a person is compelled to state their negative opinion. You'd think they would just move on if an artist doesn't appeal to their taste. Btw, keep playing your songs in your own special way beautiful lady🌷

    Fantastic. Reminds me of Tracy Chapman, who I saw years ago. I have watched a number of Valerie's videos and this is just terrific. I think Valerie sounds best when she just accompanies herself on guitar or banjo. I think a full band just hides her gifted voices. These are perfect. Thanks so much.

    I just wonder what Dolly Parton would say (or do) if she heard this woman's songs and her singing them. How could she not love the sound--the soul--the energy and life a lot like Dolly grew up in. I know all about that tiny, rural life.

      In an interview posted on his website, Bob Dylan said he’d been listening to June, whose latest album, The Order of Time, is a blend of spacey hippie soul, blues and folk with June’s pinched, modern-Appalachian voice at the center. “I lost it,” June says of the Dylan shout-out.

    I remember when this sweet girl came into the coffee shop I was assistant manager at (while putting myself thru college). She was 16 & had just left home (MS). We worked together for about 2 years & I saw her off and on after that. During all that time I heard her sing at small gigs & whoever’s house we were hanging out at. Her voice brought me to tears more than a couple of times. I knew she’d go far…I love that she’s getting the respect & admiration she deserves.❤

      4mydearlady I don't care for her whiny voice. especially the song about climbing through the stratosphere. that's what I feel people won't like. there is no range or change in her voice throughout her songs, and the lyrics aren't catchy.

      Nick Golden I grow up listening to music from the 60-70s, and do not care for artists who can't match the sound of their albums.
      I this case I just don't like this artist voice.

    • @johnfb789
      @johnfb789 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick Golden, after listening to several of VJ's videos, I agree with Aaron. Her voice is thin and reedy, it has no range. There's a difference between a talented voice, and one that's been engineered. If you want to hear talent, listen to Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, or Linda Ronstadt, or even Jessie Mae Hemphill. I realize I've thrown a lot of names at you, but this is merely a shallow scratching at the surface. Dig in and expand your horizon .

    • @chrisevans7520
      @chrisevans7520 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A few names, none of which I'd disagree with, but I think you are narrow. This is an extraordinary voice doing amazing things. Sad for you that you can't hear it. Shallow listening I' d say. Dig in and expand your horizon.
