    I would like to comment on how well your camera crew shoots your videos. She does a very good job of tracking the planes that you fly and that takes talent. Also your videos are very clear. I like how you cover all the details in your builds and the pertinent comments about flight performance. It helps us learn the hobby. Both of you please keep up the good work.

      Nothing wrong with staying in a budget, but so very Apples to Oranges ;) The prop on this plane is bigger than that whole plane ;) You'd get a kick out of seeing it in person...very impressive!

    As some other people have said watching you fly crash and repair has taught me a lot about the hobby. Please keep it up thanks to you and camera crew for everything ❤ and who else cares enough to do 3 and 4 hour long videos

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      Thank you for noticing! 3-4 hours videos are taxing to us, and we do it for people who need the help, then some big time jerks complain about it, since they "don't need it". It's been kinda getting old - In fact, I think I had 3-4 people this week that I got sick and tired of listening too, so they are now blocked, and I hope they go away forever ;) Thanks for speaking up in support of the long videos. We appreciate your kind words.
      P.S. You obviously "get it", but it's pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to keep everyone happy on an opened platform like TH-cam, so thanks for making the comment!

    Just maidened my FMS 1700 Corsair this weekend. I went straight for the 8s setup. Installed a Hobbyking 120A ESC and using 2 5200 4s packs. CG was around 95mm which is perfect placement. the instructions are wrong on their placement. It's too far aft. Half flaps for take-offs and landings are the best. The tanks and ordinance do add drag and you lose some flight time. Clean I'm getting about 7 min with most of the flight at 1/2 throttle or slightly above. Dirty with tanks/rockets then about 5 1/2 min flight time and throttle is at 3/4. Not a big deal as it looks cool with everything on and 5 min flying time is plenty.
    After the third flight my left main gear had similar 'looseness' issue although no foam cracking, just the plastic housing pulling free from the foam. I will see if I can wick CA in or use some JB Weld (preferable but messier to apply). I can see how this would be the weak area given the weight of the aircraft and stresses from grass field ops (which I use for this plane). FMS could have better QC in this area.
    Overall I'm very happy with the Corsair. 8s is the best way to go as all you need do is swap out the ESC. My flying buddy has this plane and he commented on how much better and more positive it was on 8s (he flies his on 6s and said it tends to need more power authority). The battery bay has plenty of room for 8s and it helps with the CG as you don't need to add any extra nose weight. (i have seen others on 6s needing to add nose weight to move that CG forward).
    Pro-tip; make sure to cycle the gear at least twice before flying to make sure it is 'synced' properly before you take-off and have a potential issue with them not retracting/extending if needed right away. Just the nature of that control board.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      YES! I want to get setup with some 8S packs and Chargers too, since I'd like to JUICE up an 80mm F-18 as well. This HUGE beauty was just too slow on 6S, but she did fly well, albeit slow.

    My letter to FMS:
    I love your Corsair 1700 V3, a beautiful looking plane and I love seeing it in the air.
    However, there is a serious flaw and problem with its design and function.
    The flaw is in the landing gear. The flaw is how the blue plastic mounting piece for the retract unit ( I will call it the “plastic mount”) is secured to the foam wing. It might be more accurate to say the flaw is how the plastic mount is NOT attached to the foam wing.
    The plastic mount has two sides, a front, and a top. It is part of the continuation of the wheel pocket in the wing. Your people assembling the plastic mount put glue on the two sides, the front and the bottom.
    - But the sides, a major component in preventing the plastic inserts from pulling out when subjected to landing forces, are 3/16 and 3/8 of an inch AWAY from the Styrofoam on both sides! No contact and not even close. I can see the glue mounds on the sides, hardened having never touched foam.
    - The top of the plastic mount is also not touching the foam so either the glue does not touch the foam or a hump in the glue touches it in a very small area.
    So we are left with the glue in the VERY small frontal area of the plastic mount carrying most of the forces of the landing gear. And to make that even less effective, the foam that frontal area is understandably very small because it is at the leading edge of the wing where it is thin and does not have much strength.
    PLEASE ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m thinking you need to remold the pocket in the wing to AT LEAST touch the plastic mount on all four sides. …..unless your plan is to make your profits by customers continuing to buy your replacement wings ……………..which are on back order so now the plane sits there.
    And please don’t just assume I am a bad flier. Take a look at Brian Phillips’ coverage and go to the 22.10 minutes: th-cam.com/video/iBCD03X_CuY/w-d-xo.html
    This is exactly what I am talking about.

    Brian there’s a video by RC Informer, there is a new propeller with more pitch that gives much better performance on 6S and unlimited climb on 8S making it possible to hang on the prop. How cool is that.. I want one now, run the new prop and 8S.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the new prop installed, but this video was RIGHT before I got it. We will be publishing the NEW PROP video in a few days.
      I watched Rich (the RC Informer) doing these things, but I don't want to drop ANOTHER $200+ on a 120 Amp ESC and Lipo for an already expensive plane. I think if 8S and 120 Amp ESC is the right way to go, FMS ought to be sending thoes out too....but just my 2 cents ;) The plane having unlimited vertical would be totally cool, but not necessary. Also, the new prop had an almost an distinguishable pitch change, but it worked seemed to help...Don't want to give too much away, but it was a good improvement.

    • @keithwhisman
      @keithwhisman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianPhillipsRC just run two 4S lipos in parallel for 8S and buy a cheap 120AMP esc. I’m betting this is a well it looked great on paper deal for FMS and the numbers crunchers at FMS wanted to maximize profits. See that with our RC helis all the time, some times it works out great and some times it’s a much hated machine.

    Brian... I realize now that this may not be your favorite Corsair...But--I think you should keep it, upgrade the ESC to 120 Amp & run it on 8s. I know by doing so is not per manufacturing specs-but put the disclaimer out there to do so at own risk. I think with proper throttle management (on 8s) is the ticket. Doing this upgrade will get you the fix your looking for--"The need for speed". On the up side (with the upgrade)--you can still drop in that 6s pack and fly scale. P.S. Also-Like to see how it performs with you on the upgraded prop from FMS. :)

    I love this bird! It is great looking & scaled with great detail: color/decals, propeller (4 blades = Korean War), flap size & number of servos, generous rudder, gear sequencing (can be though as a bit slow but it is doable) cockpit and front lights! What strikes me as obvious is that is seriously underpowered for its 1700mm size at 100% thrust - it is * s l o w *. I want the plane to fly for me so I do have to ponder in flight whether I have enough inertia to complete a roll. Come on guys, who wants that?!?!?! I would NOT touch the propeller. Looking at FMS' manual/spec document, I see the installed ESC is 80A. I wonder whether one can replace the ESC with a 120A one (it is available) and change the battery from 6S to 8S. It seems there is room to fit an 8s battery. Doing so will increase the motor's RPMs and will fire up this bird. It will take some labor (removal of the propeller and motor to reach the 80A ESC and replace it with 120A) but I think it is doable even for someone new like me (who likes to work with his hands). My recommendation is to hint FMS to increase the Amps in the ESC! Thoughts anybody?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, the prop improvement was not enough. I'm glad it flies nice, but it's right on the edge of a stall basically all the time.
      As for 120Amp ESC and 8S...I fear you'd be putting another 1/2 the price of the plane into new electronics...something most of us would not be thrilled to have to do...even with a good plane.

When I first seen your video on the prop upgrade, fms sent me the 18x11 prop, I'd like to get a couple of more degrees of pitch, then it would be more enjoyable to fly on 6s, I'm sure you agree. • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only with the "six" channel NX6, that's actually a 7 channel transmitter. If you have a DX6, no, but if you have an NX6, YES - I know it's confusing and I have NO idea why they called the NX6 an NX6...

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also...you CAN SHARE A channel for which to ASSIGN SAFE SELECT ON/OFF, OR just have it on ALL THE TIME or OFF ALL THE TIME. So technically, YES, you can use a 6 channel, but you just can't Independently turn SAFE Select on and off. - Hope this clears things up better.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are exactly right. 1.2m class is a GREAT class. If you get to 1.5m-1.7m you get the addition of a retractable tail wheel, in many cases, but the rest is just bigger, and more expensive.... Some claim their easier to fly....well, if you're comparing wing loading, and it's LOWER, it will tend to be easier, but not all 1.7m planes have lower wing loading than their 1.2m counterparts.
      I.E. I don't think you're NOT crazy.... BUT this plane is very impressive!

I’ve been trying to get my wife to take notes from your Camera crew on filming my flights lol. I had her hand launch a p51 mustang and I had the elevator reversed and it came around and hit her in the back and she wont come outside when I fly anymore but your camera crew i think is starting to bring her back around she starting to film from behind one of our big sliding glass doors.

      Central, Iowa - just outside of Des Moines, the capitol.
      Ouch!!!
      I too have crashed into my very dedicated camera crew ;) She was such a trooper, I was like, get out of the way, and she was so laser focused she let this plane bounce into her thigh. I felt super bad, but it was a LONG time ago, and we've both gotten a lot better. She had a small bruise for about 2-3 days. She claims it was her fault, but it was really mine.
      That being said, we've been pretty lucky in our RC experience, with almost no injuries, as much as we fly. I think the idea of injury is automatically "DEATH" or "SEVERE LACERATIONS", but really, I think the VAST majority are just minor bumps and bruises, and the occasional property damage. Our home owners insurance agent tells us that with trampolines, they have a new 100% claim rate, which is why they insist we list it...but as for RC stuff, he's not even concerned. He used to live right next to me, in the old neighborhood, so he KNEW ;)
      Thanks for the kind words, btw!

      If you can fly a heli, you can fly fixed wing!
      Here's a short list of otherwise good choices. Don't feel bad picking a "simple" plane, even thought you know how to fly, you just need to learn a few habits. Since you can't HOVER (usually) you'll have to start paying attention to where you are, spatially located, and where you're going...then you have to make room for takeoff and landing. These are the only things you'll need to learn...you ALREADY know how to fly ;)
