I was a boy in the 70’s and was a trucker. This song is one of the best story time genres ever! Red Sovine has many others. Phantom 309 is one! Roses for Mama has a melody! Thx beautiful Angela!
Trucking music is such a rich Rabbit Hole of storytelling. And a fascinating history. And Red Sovine was one of the legends. I can see people recommending to also react to Giddy Up go, which is so powerful, but if you do, you have to listen to the female answer to it. I think it's just called giddy up go answer, and it was a hit as well. It's so cool the way it ties the story together.❤
Songs like "Teddy Bear" are what I heard on the radio back during the mid 1970's, Angela. I remember Red Sovine well from listening to his song "Phantom 309". It's great songs like this that made the music genre I listened to so very eclectic. It really didn't matter what radio station I listened to back then (Country & Western, Pop, Adult Contemporary, R&B, Rock and Roll, Jazz). You're benefiting from the requests from your subscribers. It gives me great joy for remembering Red Sovine's wonderful songs.
I do not know how I just just now discovered your channel, been watching reactions for years. Hard to find someone smart enough to understand most every song but so far you are my favorite.
I used to deliver milk over night and in the early morning hours, back when this was super popular! It is lonely job, driving around in the dark. When this song, among others like it, came on, felt a lot less lonely and warmed my heart! Great reaction... this was a different era! Trucker community is wonderful!
Red Sovine was one of the best at telling a story... You will find that most of his storys are about trucking and drivers. He has one song that he did called Daddy's Girl that I think you will like. There is an answer to Teddy Bear called Little Joe. Also Phantom 309. These are just a few of the songs he did
It was a different time back in the day. In 1972, at the age of 12, my parents took me to the airport where I boarded a plane to fly from Minneapolis to Los Angeles to visit my brother. I don't think they would allow a 12 year old to fly unaccompanied in today's world.
I heard this song for the first time when I was 14/15, so 1995ish. Back then it would make me cry when all the trucks were lined up.. at almost 43 (February) and a momma now, I don't cry until his mom gets on the CB at the end❤
Wow, I had never heard of Red Sovine. I'm familiar with the The Jackson Southernaires version of this song from the early 80's I thought it was there original song. I still like their version over this because it's more soulful and includes music with some background singers. It's also a little longer and more soulful. Great reaction, thank you!
I will say that despite trying to think about it and evaluate it in modern terms, which is legitimate but you're right, it totally harshes my mellow, but it speaks to a lot more than just this one thing. For example, people would hitchhike all over the country, and yeah stuff would happen occasionally, but compared to nowadays it was a viable means of transportation and because it kind of grew out of people during the Great Depression decades before that hopping trains and stuff. But yeah there was a definite shifting point, probably in the 80s.
Another of Red's big hits is the true story of the deck of cards. Another very clever story about a soldier and a deck of cards in Vietnam I believe. ✌️❤️
I was named Teddy my 1st 15 years of my life im glad my mom and dad named me Theodore . and my pastor and has wife named thier son they just had a month ago they named him Theodore Criss ,
Thanks to the late great DJ Country Chuck for introducing me to this song. Another Red Sovine song he would play a lot was a cute, happy song called "Daddy's Girl".
Wow, 1976, that's the year I graduated high school, and I remember hearing this song on the radio. I don't remember Red Sovine as a singer; to me he was a storyteller.
Lol in 1976 my mom had a base station in Hutchinson Kansas hooked to a 70 foot Moonraker antenna. When she keyed up every TV in about a 3 block radius ( all tube type in those days) heard her. She could talk way into OK, TX, and NM. Lol she had the call letters and our dining room was practically wallpapered with qsl cards
Trucking songs are numerous some great fun like " Wolf Creek pass" by CW Mcall, or "white knight" by cledus maggard ( I think) or more spooky and or serious songs like" phantom 309" by red sovine. Convoy ( CW Mcall) or if you're looking for something a little more recent 18 wheels and a dozen roses ( Kathy matea) "Roll on" by Alabama or " cold shoulder" by Garth Brooks.
Based on FBI statistics, it was more likely that something bad would happen then now. The crime rate was a lot higher in the 60's and 70's then now. The thing was, in those days, we didn't have 24-hour information about things happening all over the country. All we knew is what was happening in our neck of the woods.
1976?? I'm guessing this was on Hee Haw!!?? Remember watching a couple episodes, mainly for the blonde named Misty!(?) So now you've been introduced to CB talk,,,, you might as well check out CONVOY by CW McCall from 1975! Great song writing episodes! There are TONS! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼🎄
EBONEE WEBB - HERE MY LOVE IS. FIVE O'CLOCK - WHEN THE CAT'S AWAY. MELBA MOORE - YOUR SWEET LOVIN. VERA BROWN & RICH GIRLS - TOO MUCH TOO FAST. WQBC - I'LL BE LOVING YOU. STARSHINE - ALL I NEED IS YOU. CAROL SHINNETTE - CYANIDE LOVE. VAUGHAN MASON - FEEL MY LOVE. TEENA MARIE - IT MUST BE MAGIC. THE ANTILLES - I'VE GOT TO HAVE YOU. RICHIE FAMILY - I'LL DO MY BEST. DAVE KARL - I DON'T PLAY THOSE GAMES. PAULETTE REAVES - IT'S IN ME. RAY BENNETT JR - WHEN YOU HEAR LOVE CALLING. CARL CARLTON - DANCE WITH YOU. SHOTGUN - LADIES CHOICE.
Thanks for reacting to this beautiful song. Yeah, if that happened today, there would be an "Amber Alert", and truck drivers would be getting pulled over. Understandably so, since it only takes one bad apple.

I always loved this song but I just now realize that the kid's mom wasn't home yet and he was taking rides with truck drivers by himself. lol I know it isn't a true story but I don't think that's a good idea.
48 years later and it can still bring a tear to our eyes.
Since 1976 I have never listened to that song without tearing up.
Same for me as well.
Ditto, haven’t heard this in ages.
This was on country radio all the time when I was just a little guy. So many memories brought back. Thank you
Red Sovine - "Roses for Mama", "Little Joe", Phantom 309", "Giddyup, Go", "Daddy's Girl"
Phantom 309 was a great ghost story...
What a surprise to hear Teddy Bear.
I like that name lol
Roses for Mama is another one that will touch your soul.
Damn, woman, the song gets to me anyway, but your reaction to it is just so moving and it definitely made my allergies act up. Wow.❤

I'm 68 and heard this song lots of times and still get real teary eyed.
Yep- been crying to this since the mid 70's when I was a kid being raised by a single mother.
a lot of tears in a red sovine song...has that kind of delivery.

Most I have seen are way over the top and sensational. Angela just plays it straight. Best.

You aren;t the only one with tears. I haven't heard that song in decades. It hit me like a ton of bricks. So glad you felt the same way!
Many of Red’s stories were tear jerkers, especially Rose For Mama and Little Rosa
Red SO-vine: "Giddy-up Go", "Phantom 309", "Roses for Mama".
You have a tender heart. Thanks for being you.

every time i hear this song i were my tears as a badge of honor.
I'm 57. This song has the same bittersweet feelings now as the first time I heard it
Storytelling in a song , at its finest. ❤..thank you Angela. ✌️
Just beautiful. This gets me every time I hear this. 😊

Definitely roses for mama

That was a beautiful song I love this song
Now you have to listen to roses for Mama. Another tear jerker
Red Sovine has another called "Roses for Momma" that was covered by CW McCall.
Wish people today were more like this. You can tell it was a different time. ❤
This song makes everyone cry
His song Deck of cards will blow your mind 😅
This one gets me everytime ❤
Damn, Red! You brought a tear to my eye too! 😭Phantom 309 and Daddy's girl are well known classics. Enjoy!
Another of Red's big hits is the true story of the deck of cards. Another very clever story about a soldier and a deck of cards in Vietnam I believe. ✌️❤️
He also did a song called Roses for mama that I think you will enjoy
Aww, hugs.
I have not heard this in a long time.

Another couple of good ones are Phantom 309 and I think it's called /Deck Of Cards.
That world that the song talks about is coming, and it's coming a lot faster than any of us realize.
Most truckers had CB radios to talk together when in range, some also had a 'base' radio in their homes too
Lol in 1976 my mom had a base station in Hutchinson Kansas hooked to a 70 foot Moonraker antenna. When she keyed up every TV in about a 3 block radius ( all tube type in those days) heard her. It's a red sovine song but Diana Williams does an amazing rendition of ( the real tear jerker) "Tedy bears last ride"
Diana Williams did part 2 of Teddy Bear tittled Teddy Bears Last Ride. You must listen but keep them tissues close. God Bless You

"Think of Laura" by singer/song writer Christopher Cross is also a great song for you, Angela.
